BigDork
in one of my PBEMs I have a kubelwagon that got stuck way behind the lines and behind a hill. After a turn and a half it went from bogged to immobilized/bailing out. It really pissed off the Company HQ in the back who now has to walk. Now I've never seen this happen before. I'm sure that the kubel is far from the lines and also behind a hill so it is out of LOS of everything. Do kubelwagons abandon when the get immoblized? I can provide the file for almost everyone if they are curious and want to see for themselves.
Sergei
It's not just bogged, it's immobile. Immobilized unarmed transports abandon automatically, I've had it happen with trucks before. Also, the passengers of any immobilized vehicle disembark automatically.
Bone_Vulture
Well, it's an unarmored, unarmed vehicle that has become 100% useless by the CM standards. Are you going sit there, hands gripped on the steering wheel? Blink the headlights and make "vroom vroom" noises?
BigDork
Heh, no of course not. Just never saw it happen before.
Holman
Looks like the officer got out to change the tire...
Herr Kruger
This happens with transports going back to CMBO, I believe. That changing tire comment was funny though! J Kruger

One does what one must to distract from the main effort
David I
Sounds like a story told a thousand times in real life. It does make for pictures of a pissed off Captain turn to the poor Cpl driver and screaming, "What am I supposed to do now?" The traditional response is a shrug of the shoulders.
BigDork
Okay so I understand the abandoning thing but why in the heck would the driver be shaken when he has to abandon his kubelwagon? Is he afraid the CO is gonna shoot him for getting stuck? [ April 28, 2004, 04:19 AM: Message edited by: BigDork ]

It's a possibility, or he could be afraid that the motor pool will take the replacement cost out of his pay, or maybe he's freaked about having to abandon the car stereo to the enemy,,,

BigDork
"Everyone's a rifleman first" or some crap like that. That's why I joined the Air Force.

Sounds more like the old joke where the farmer says "You can spend the night but, stay away from my daughter."
mrpwase
Maybe the Rocky Horror Show, but with the Wehrmacht?
Determinant
Take your car. Drive off road. Live the life. I once abandoned a land rover that I'd bogged in a dry river bed. I now maintain that abandoning a vehicle that you have bogged through your own incompetence is one of the stations of the cross en route to having a wife, mortgage and sprogs. Bad break if you do it when someone's trying to kill you though. You kids need to leave your computers and drive cross-country from time to time...

Brent Pollock
Releated to this - do not let your armed, immobilised vehicles run out of ammo as they will promptly be abandoned.
