Guest Gunslinger
Title: Techware's Graphics Realism Update 1.0 (GRU1) Author: See Credits Below & James "Gunslinger" Wohlever Creation Time: 62 Hours total Go to http://techware.gtinsider.com to grab your copy today! Description ----------- This mod package consists of modified textures for use in Combat Mission 1.5x or later. This package was compiled using several pre-existing packages available on the web, and some brand new creations by Techware. The basic premise of this GRU1 is to make the 3D world in Combat Mission more realistic. THis is achieved through the use of toning down too bright and saturated colors and by clarifying and enhancing pre-existing textures to a crisper appearance. This Mod is not for everyone. Bad weather looks like bad weather. depressing, gloomy. A sunny day looks , well, like a sunny day instead of the super bright greens and reds of the original. Please take a moment to back-up your Combat Mission\BMP folder to a safe place so that if you decide you don't like this mod, you can simply go back to the way it was. Installation ------------ 1) Download all zip files. 2) Extract Each Zip into the Combat Mission\BMP folder. Allow the zipped files to overwrite any files they need to. 3) Unzip Misc-Textures-V1.zip LAST.. I repeat: Unzip Misc-Textures-V1.zip LAST This zip file contains some last minute revisions that need to overwrite a few things in the other zips, so unzip Misc-Textures-V1.zip last. 4) Play the game! NOTE: I play the game in 1024x768 so what might look good at that resolution might not look good at a lesser res. How was this done? (For the curious and would-be-modders) ------------------ Basically, I took each and every BMP file into Paint Shop Pro beta 7. Once in PSP I applied the auto sat (modified the values slightly) and the clarify filters at 3. I then would tinker with each file to keep from getting a washed-out appearance. I did not modify any of the actual artwork of any of the pre-modded files by the various authors. All I did to there work is modify the way your computer displays there beautiful work on your screen. So DO NOT give me credit for the artwork (other than the smoke, flames, and Main Splash screen) because they are the ones who did all the other work. For the "clear day" background I took a 1024x768 background pic of a real sky. In PSP I copied, flipped, and mirrored the image several times to create a seamless pattern. Then I selected a portion of the sky and let PSP do the rest through the "create seamless pattern" filter. I then touched up the rough edges, and viola.. Nice seamless sky. Unfortunately, due to licensing issues, the night and afternoon pics I had put in had to be taken out. The rest they say, is history. Credits ------- I would like to thank all the following people for there creation in there mods, and the willingness to share. Mad Matt - Number #1 guy here. When I waited to the last minute to do something I should have done 2 weeks ago, Matt kept his cool and didn't yell at me (not much anyway He then spoke to the creators of MDMP-2 on my behalf to get approval for this Mod work. Thanks a lot Matt. Do yourself a favor and go to his web site for some of the best Combat Mission news, files, and other cool stuff around. http://combathq.thegamers.net/ Dainius Kartanas Original Tweaked Explosion work Marco Bergman (Vehicles) PZVG (Vehicles) Desert Fox (Vehicles) Stephan Galambos (Winter Vehicles) David Molinarolo (Winter Vehicles, Uniforms) Ed Durkin (Uniforms) Richard Tremblett (Velvet Grass) Marcus Govan (Radio Light) *IX*Angela Deth (Flag Textures, and some snow textures) The entire MDMP-2 team Jon Johnson of Matrix Games for *********** Without these people, I would have never have started this, nor would it have ever lived to see the light of day. Scorpion
I'm downloading the files as we speak, however, I have a question, and forgive me if you've answered it already (and I'm just being dense). If I install the GRU 1.0 mod, and then Tiger or someone else makes a new vehicle mod, will it look 'funny' or different because you haven't tweaked it? Or did you not touch the vehicles at all? Regardless of whether or not you tweaked other people's vehicle mods, what exactly is in the huge vehicle zip? Are they other people's vehicle mods? I'm curious to know which mods you picked, as there have been several good Panther, Tiger, and King Tiger mods. Thank you again! I can't wait to see what it looks like... Cheers, -Scorp
Manx
Scorpion...i can see this being a problem. Gunslinger has in his words "toned down" the graphics, so unless another MOD author uses his converted bmp's as the basis to start off with, then like you say, we will end up with different looking MOD'S that don't match up at all. Gunslinger - I guess you've already thought about this, so will you be updating this package on a regular basis to take into account any new MOD'S made by other authors?. Oddball_E8
Do what i did... i installed CMBO in two different folders... one for GRU and one for whatever else i like to use (ie everything else) ------------------ Wof, wof, wof, wof... Guest Bad Ju Ju
Great work GS. This pack looks very good. One question: Does the barbed wire appear for every dug in position? If so, it really gives 'em away. Thanks for those 62 hours. You did a super job. ------------------ "I didn't go to evil medical school for six years to be called MR. Evil." marcusm
Does this mod negate any of MadMats modpacks? I want high res grass and not low res for instance. Marcus

Pham911
Gotta agree with the flames. I like the flames, but they look a little cartoony in comparrison with the rest of the somber graphics. Don't get me wrong, they're still cool looking, but they don't seem to fit all that well with the rest of your graphics. The mod is still the best I've come across so far, just to restate that this isn't a flame or even really much of a criticism. Just a request for a "update" if you could fix it. You can just copy back some other flames if you don't like mine ya know Unfortunatly without CM supporting variable transparency, (like in TGA's) there is no way to do 100% looking flames. In CM, transpareny is depicted by 255 0 255 RGB or 254 0 254. Anything different and it's not transparent. I wish CM support variable transpareny.. Man.. (drooling) think of the photo-realism that would be possible then.. Pham911
Gunslinger, is this a glitch, or is it just my display? Playing a map with a Tiger on it, and if I move my POV aprox 375m away from the tiger, it gets a big red rectangle under it. Any ideas?
ntg84
Just wanted to say that everything but the flames are awesome. I am using the new buildings and terrain, and everything. I think it was cool that you made everything seperate so that people could choose what to use and what not to. Awesome new look to the buildings, I love them. Those churches are cool too

Pham911
It could be, but I'm not sure why it would be. If you want to see if you reproduce the effect, just do a quick battle, buy a tiger for your side, and on the map move your POV backwards away from it until you see a red rectangle appear under it. I think the scale was set to enlarge +2. If you do a LOS on the ground in front of you and find you're over 400m away, it's gotta be on my end, or an issue with my video card. However, this didn't happen before I applied your new bmp's as far as I can remember, so I guess it may be some problem my card has with an edited BMP for the tiger. Not sure, really. It brought back memories of some very cold, wet days I spent in Germany (rainy, damp weather) ------------------ unca pathy will show ya the path, if only he could find it himself!
