Well since they were in ASL they should be in CM too . Every single unit in ASL should be added to the CM series to be frank. Now that we know we'll never get a better ASL replacement . I also want all the tiletypes from ASL included. I don't care if I have to upgrade to a Cray to run CM. Marcus

Ok sorry for nagging but I just want 2 short answers. a) Has the work begun yet? Approx weeks/months left? Marcus

Belgian Combat Mission Scenario Page: Great Stuff!!
marcusm replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
Really good looking. I hope he does more non Bulge but Belgian related scenarios as well. I would like to see someone do more Netherlands scenarios as well (non Arnhem related) Marcus -
Commisar : http://www.ludd.luth.se/users/silver_p/rus.html Has the really good one Katusha (legal afaik) plus some other WW2 related songs. www.cdru.ru has alot of Real Audio samples of various Russian music. I also prefer mp3. Marcus [This message has been edited by marcusm (edited 09-18-2000).]

Thanks and yes I know about Shostakovitch pieces of course . They are easy enough to find. And I have most of them on classic CD collections. However I was looking more for those folkish sounding songs with lot's of balalaikas and men choirs etc. Except for the RAC I don't know any else. Maybe someone good with balalaika can record some . An AI based on NN methods shouldn't have to be too expensive. The cpu:s are getting better and cheaper. All you have to do is teach it once properly. No need for bio-nn:s yet. A friend of mine has just patented a good BP based method for use on nuclear plants. In theory it could be used for comples strategy/wargames as well. Marcus

Poll: What add features you wait for in CM2?
marcusm replied to Rarg's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
How about a 1:1 map of Russia with a max 2 terrapoints of purchases? I allways thought Scorched Earth had too few counters. <g> Marcus -
There's more or less exactly the same topic over at csipgs now. Although that one actually started with someone asking for ST the game. Sorry haven't read the book, the only Heinlein I've read is the black cat one (a murder story on some space station). My fave Sci Fi authors are Asmiov, Clarke and Hamilton. I'll stick to the same argument I had on csipg-s though. Books are books and movies are movies, it's like comparing apples and oranges imho. Verhoeven took the parts he considered would make a cool movie and left out the other parts. Maybe he didn't think a "deep" movie would make very well at the box office? I'm a Kieslowski fan myself but I don't think he ever intended his movies to make the top 10 in the sales charts. Verhoeven is less concerned with the cineastics and more with making cash. Marcus

Well the average rating at imdb.com is 6.6, not a timeless classic but hardly a plan 9 either. That's basically how I rated it, a decent action movie not to be taken too seriously. Plus the boot camp instructor is one of the coolest i've seen. http://us.imdb.com/Title?0120201 Marcus

Guess you never saw Plan 9 from outer space . I think Starship Troopers was a decent movie. It made pretty well in the boxoffice too. Marcus

ROFL possibly the funniest post yet on this forum . Btw I bought SAW recently for 10$, after 4 scenarios I deleted the game from the HD and threw it in the dustbin. Wasted money worth at least 4 beers for this crap . According to GDR Squad Leader is 99% like this. Better buy Fallout Tactics or JA2UB if you are interested in this kind of games. And there's only one true contender for the ASL crown and that is Combat mission. Marcus

Possibly the hardest scenario yet

Now there's 5 players and noone has managed to win as US player, one draw only. Is this just an example that ASL scenarios doesn't port very well to CM? Mracus -
Has anyone played the ASL scenario Marechals mill as USA and won? I have tried 4-5 times to no avail. The odds are simply impossible so it seems. I also let a couple of others try it and they have failed so far. If someone manages to win this, please post a strategy. Marcus

You are probably right ski, it was a long time since I checked the SL manual . But the reduction of efficiency is a nice idea that I think should be looked into. Marcus
-
Yes of course. Maybe the rally % could be reduced with a random number for each HQ unit that falls. Marcus

Otoh content is just as important Madmatt Marcus -
Sounds fair enough BTS . A compromise solution for future versions could be possible leadership value reduction if a sniper hits a HQ or something. Marcus

Not you Manx, Maximus described a hypothetical scenario with Rob:s potential employers. Btw so far I've only seen one CM page with good design, that's the Combatmissions page. Unfortunatelly it seems to be on limbo. Marcus -

You are correct Manx but "who's this idiot" might be overdoing the constructive criticism. No employer takes a hobby page seriously anyway. As long as you don't end up as an example on www.webpagesthatsuck.com it's ok . (btw I really recommend those seriously interested in design to visit that page, also read Jacob Nielsens guidelines for a good web GUI). Marcus -

If it was a proffessional business page or something I would agree. No way I'm going to slam someones hobby page, there's far worse designs than this one. Take those with 100 different type sets and rainbow tiled backgrounds for instance Great job on the site Rob btw. A small change however would include a light or dark background with black or white text though, it's a little hard to read. Marcus -
Points taken but ASL didn't really model one man units either, only the leaders were one man units. Now you never know if the leader of a squad is still alive or not. Marcus
-
This is probably somethig that could be digged up in the dephts of old BTS records but I'll see if it's worth mentioning again. How come leaders aren't one man units? Snipers for instance doesn't seem as useful if you don't know who the actual lt, sarge etc. is in the 5 man leader group. ASL handled this better imo. Any reason behind this decision? Marcus
-
What should you search for then? I can think of million threads or so covering "AFV" . In any case, there's no other logical explanation than pure technical for ommitting those two features. Marcus

marcusm replied to Rarg's topic in Combat Mission Archive #2 (2000)
I concur that ski troops and horses should be there as new troops. If possible I would like to see one man leaders also (if it doesn't get too far from BTS design policy that is). It would make sniping so much more important. Plus of course, tons of new terrain tiles. Maybe a more flexible engine that allows construction of new unique ones? Marcus
