  1. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Croda: In short, I don't think this warrants much of a bonus if any. If you model wire, then you have to model cutting, and fixing the wire to be accurate. I don't think it's worth it, especially since positions were constantly being wired, never leaving forward positions without wire for long periods of time. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I think the time factor is something to consider here. Welp, I guess I shall add my 4 cents worth... The bonus/extended radius for land lines could be added to a unit during setup and lost if the unit moves from its current position, much the way that extra ammo is lost when a unit such as a machine gun that is over stocked is lost now when it moves. Considering the time frame of a CM battle I think it is possible to include land lines for the defender without concern of damaged line repair. We don't have field medics for much the same reason. Their usefulness would be severely limited in a 15 minute to 2 hour confrontation. The limitations put on engineering units also support this. How long does it take to string land line? Would it be possible to do while under fire or during the time frame of a CM type battle? More than likely not. I would guess setup for a defending force is the most likely time and place for such activities. It falls into the digging in category for a game like this. Just my 4 cents.
  2. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by howardb: Is the latest Velvet mod available with grids yet ?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes it is, I did that mod shortly after the Velvet grass was released. I loved the grass mod and couldn't live without my grids so... It is there on CMHQ under the gridded terrain mod section. It is the one Fionne used in his report, Gridded Velvet Grass. Enjoy! Marcus
  3. Why do you think it's a tank? It is clearly a bunker with five GI's dug into fox holes in the front, with a knocked out Bofars behind it in the distance. I have seen many pictures of just this type of defense in Normandy. You can find a similar photographic source in: 'The Fubar Conundrum' published in 1968 by the Disney press that will back this up. Marcus
  4. I just installed the mod. Gunslinger man, you are one highly artistic realist! Congrats on a job well done! Marcus
  5. Outstanding looking cover! I think Royalties are in order... hmmm mabey not. Perhapse we make you king for a day instead!
  6. This may help you: http://www.utc.fr/~merlier/undx6.exe It has worked for me in the past, I have had troubles with certain older games requireing older versions of dx to run properly. This will let you unload dx and you can re-install any version you want. Hope this helps! Marcus
  7. Vhy I would vin, Because I am Da Feuhrerguy! Fritz, hand me mine monicle pleaz.
  8. Supercalafragilisticexpealadocious! That is a supurb website design. Marcus
  9. I would like the British and German ones please! Thanx in advance. Marcus
  10. I use Gamecommander alot and have found I take more of a cpu hit from winamp when played along side a game. Gamecommander was designed to work with games and their instantanious requirements for input, as such its prety smooth sailing with every game I have used it with. Voice recognition in the past was to slow and clunky for games due to the 33,000+ word vocabulary the engine had to search through. This puppy only has to search through the small command set that the game uses, which makes it lightning quick. Since CM uses an order phase and not a realtime mode CM plays like Gamecommander isn't even there. I have played Unreal Tournament with GC to switch weapons while my fingers do other things and it still kicks butt. Marcus
  11. Nope, can't be done, the tiles you are talking about have the same reference number to the game. So replacing one with the other is possible, but you can't have two of them at the same time in the same game. BTS would have to recode the tile sets to allow more tiles so that you could have one that is single tracks and one that is double. The same thing applies if you want more variety or a larger number of tiles to choose from when building a map. Perhapse they will include more tiles for us to play with in an expansion pack (Hint, Hint) You could however switch the tiles between battles/operations yourself, but that would only affect your current game from your perspective, not your opponents. As it stands all you can do is modify the look of the tiles not the number available. Besides train tracks are train tracks to the game regardless of how they look visualy. The game handles them the same no matter how ugly or prety they are. [This message has been edited by Feuhrerguy (edited 08-30-2000).]
  12. Yup, I agree it would be nice if the editor let you drag and drop units to simulate several rag tag units from a torn up company/battallion that got folded into another company/battallion. Twould prove usefull for many a senerio.
  13. Sorry to burst your gaminess bubble but as of v1.04 you can't use captured units to set off mines. Quoted from the readme file v1.05: "* Captured units cannot set off mines. And the code that checks for captured units escaping has been extended to allow units to escape (sometimes) even when enemy guards are nearby, provided that nearby friendly forces have a significant local superiority." Looks like the smartest thing to do is march the captured units off of your closest friendly map edge if you want to assure the capture points. Marcus
  14. Ice, you can find a couple of decent tactical primers at CMHQ: http://combathq.thegamers.net/articles/articles.asp My advice would be to play a few quick builds (QB)'s first. Just generate a random map with say 1000 points, let the computer distribute everything and hammer away for a few battles just to get the feel and timing down etc. Then set up a few QB'S where you pick the equipment yourself and try out some of the vehicles you think might be fun and intersting to play. That way you get to thrash around with stuff and not realy loose anything except your pride. You sound as though you don't realy want to experiment with the pre-desiged senerio's and I don't blame you. It's better to walk into most of those with a bit of knowledge of the tools your about to use. You will get more out of the experience that way. Marcus
  15. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Fred: What would you think about an option(!) for game length variance of, say 10%? This would result in a game from 27-33 turns (if designed for 30 turns). Fred <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I think that would make a great additional option to the senerio setup for battle/operation creation as well as QB. That way it would be up to the senerio designer(s) to allow the 10% randomizer or not. Some human created senerios may not play well without a strict time limit. It's always better to leave decisions like that in the designers hands.
  16. Sorry, you alwready missed the 100k post mon. I am afraid you will have to come up with a better excuse than this.
  17. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Iron Duke: Hi, I just downloaded and tried out all the new graphics packs like the "velvet" grass. I have a 700mhz PC with 256mb RAM and the velvet grass, on larger maps, will cause a slowdown.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I have a PIII450 with 128mb and there is absolutely no slowdown with all the packs installed. I use the velvetgrid pack. Your slowdown trouble is probably your graphics card. I have a GF2. The higer res textures usualy cause a graphics bottleneck, not a CPU/memory hit. Iron Duke What is your graphics card? I also use the original water/ford tiles for the same reasons as you. Marcus
  18. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by L.Tankersley: The Journal of Irreproducible Results published a paper a while back on the Triple-Blind methodology, in which the patients don't know what they are receiving, the assistants don't know what they are distributing, and the researcher doesn't know what he is doing. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hummmmm... Sounds like every medical facility I have ever visited.
  19. Realy nice touch Apex. I guess a picture is worth a thousand words, but a pronunciation is worth... well, one word.
  20. Captitalistdoginchina you can get the ref drivers from www.nvidia.com Install the drivers and delete the preferences file. You should set your windows desktop resolution to the resolution you want to run Combat Mission in the next time you start it up as the game will query about weather you want the current desktop resolution first. Keep your old drivers handy incase you need to scrap the new ones for some strange reason. If all goes as planed just lean back and enjoy kickin butt in the new resolution! Marcus
