GriffinCheng+
As a Star Wars fans for all the years, I hate but I have to agree the latest installation does not live up to the magic of the 1st trilogy. It bias too much for younger audience and I think it misses most of the mark for die-hard, long-time SW fans. The final battle, except the saber duel, is nothing worth mentioning. I think the general audience has been spoiled by the media since then. I have to agree most characters are hollow -- too bad Darth Maul carries too little weight. The movie, as a movie in general, is not too bad. The relations between Qui-Gon/Obi-wan and Anakin/Queen link the whole movie together. Natalie Portman is great in her acting, as usual. If she does not take any mis-step in the future, I belive she will be a big rising star. The concept of the whole story is not bad -- a power trade power blockade a small peace system over trade disprute in a corner of the disintegrating old Republic. The "person who will bring balance to the Force" is delivered by a virgin mother and comes into conflict against a hidden evil, long plotted to overtake the Galaxy... I think the failure mainly links to how the elements are presented and the course of execution. I have to agree Zhan novels are the best in the series. The comics version is also great. This triology of noves introduce Mara Jade, she is my, and still my most favorite female characters in the series, Mon Mothma comes far in second. The PC game inspired (X-Wing/TIE Fighter/X-Wing Alliance) novels -- X-Wing, are pretty good. Griffin. ------------------ "+" is just the beginning. Guest Shatter50
Shatter here Last night I tried my best to defend Lucas and was bombarded by haters. Tonight I am glad to see that are a few faithful supporters left. I read in earlier thread maybe Lucas should stick to ONLY WRITING instead of directing maybe they are right. As before I am not defending Episode 1 but Lucas directed Star Wars New Hope and I think this one in my opinion is the best. So how could he screw up Episode 1 so bad. I think to much kiddy crap. KILL JAR JAR KILL JAR JAR. As before just because a man screws up once is no reason for bashing. When I think of a individual, I way their FAULTS AS WELL AS THERE POSITIVES & ACHIEVEMENTS and then judge from there.
GriffinCheng+
Leia or Amidilia? Too "young" of my taste I prefer older/mature/independent ladies. Yep. there has been quite some discrepencies between Esp 1 and 4, may be Obi-wan wanted to hide something from Luke, the same reason as about Anakin. However, some discrepanices lead to some strange theories on Obi-wan in Esp 1 becomes Darth Vader and Anakin becomes Obi-wan in Esp IV. Odd, I read this from a letter in e-insiders.com Agreed. The Republic parliment part was totally a waste! Mr. Lucas missed entire the chance of introducing and developing other important characters who are important in IV - VI. Well, as the navie ground battle comes shortly afterwards, what can one expect?...May be we should wait and see Esp. 2. GriffinCheng+
For anybody is not familiar who Mara Jade is, here is a brief intro: At first, Mara Jade is brought up, appearently, by the Emperor as a member of the "Emperor's Hand" which is a secret organization, reporting only to the Emporer, formed to fulfill the Emperor's will in some "non-conventional" way. Mara is a Force-user but she is not totally fallen into the Dark-side and she does not have her own light saber at first. Her first appearence is in the book "Heir to the Empire" by Timothy Zhan. She was intended to assinate Luke in Jaba the Hutt palace, under the cloak of a dancer. But she failed. However, after the series of adventures, portaited in a comics series (sorry forget the name), she joins up a smuggler gang which leads her to cross the path with Luke and the Empire (under Thawn) again in the "New Trilogy". After the fall of Thawn, she completes her Jedi training by another Jedi Kyle Katarn (yes that is the guy in the game Dark Forces) and she serves as another Jedi in the New Republic. She has never been on movies but she is one of the top 20 most favourite characters. Griffin. Smeltz
Yeah! Everyone with half a brain hates Jar-Jar. I almost died of agony in the theater with that goof ball running around. Then they filled the screen with 'em. UGH! Anyway I'm glad to see that the love intrest between Anakin and Amidala came up earlier in the post. I was suprised to see that some parent group wasn't screaming about pedophilia. She's like how old? Hell Anakin isn't even old enough to get those feelings yet. Sorry George, I can take alot to go along with the story, but I think you wrote yourself into a corner on this one. ------------------ "Free your mind!" Disaster@work
As long as we're talking about OT legendary movies and fighting scenes, I recommend to everyone to go see two movies, one in release now and another coming in Christmas. Jackie Chan's "Legend of Drunken Master" (retitled from Drunken Master II) is bar none the best wuxia (kung fu is the western name) fighting in a wide release movie. You probably know Jackie Chan's comedy roles, this one is funny but it also contains the most outrageous fight scenes ever staged. The man is a complete entertainer. I took a date to this and she was grinning throughout. The second one is "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". It'll be a movie you'll be hearing about this Christmas as a genre breakout film that is both romance, historical drama AND a fighting film as well. Like Drunken Master, it has drop jaw amazing fighting scenes (though less of them than Drunken Master). In addition, however, it is a solid tragic romance that had more than a few men and women in the audience weeping - including myself. This film is being touted in American Beauty terms as a breakout hit. I recommend it highly. After seeing the previews (link below) I wanted to see this like I wanted to see The Phantom Menace. Unlike the Phantom Menace, after seeing Crouching Tiger.. once, I definitely will want to see it again and bring a date too. I have a longer review here: http://www.radiodestiny.com/private/crouch.shtml ------------------ ---- To download my scenarios: go to http://www3.telus.net/pop_n_fresh/combatmiss/index.htm
