  1. COOL! I for one and really glad to hear about this. I really like the tabletop version. For those who don't know anything about it there's some info here: Rise of the Luftwaffe Eighth Air Force Corsairs & Hellcats Zero! Looks like y'all are getting more of my money!

  5. Wooo HOO!!! Sometimes it pays to be sick! I've pre-ordered and preparing to download the demo! Sadly, thanks to Nyquil I gave the wrong address but I did email to give the correct one. Fortunately even if it goes to the wrong address it's still coming to the right building and the front desk folk all know me. Cardinal Fang

  7. John D Salt, That's what I thought it might be. Well..the "thickness of armour "seen" by an armour-piercing round arriving roughly horizontally." part anyway. I assume the variation in thickness for the hull front then means that the hull front has various degrees of slope. You know if they'd mentioned that cosines would be useful in wargaming back when I was learning about them I would've paid more attention! Now where is that old math book? Thanks for the answer Mr. Sa.....errr I mean: Thanks for the answer John D Salt! Cardinal Fang Have Comfy Chair. Will Travel.
  8. I have a question about how aromor thickness is determined. I was reading Ian Hogg's "The American Arsenal" and I noticed that in many cases for armor thickness there were two listings. One for "Actual" and one for "Basis". For example for the M4 Sherman it lists for the Hull, Front: Actual-2.5" Basis-2"-4" and for Turret,Front: Actual-3" Basis-3.75". Why the difference? Does it have something to do with the slope? If so why the range of numbers for the hull front? I thought the slope was constant. I've seen the term 'armor basis" before but always assumed they just meant thickness. That should teach me to assume! Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!

  11. George-III, I saw that post but there are a couple of differences that I should've made clear. In Thomas Goetz's case he said that the sounds continue and made no mention of a vehicle sound "stuttering". Also he mentions that he can still move his mouse cursor whereas in my case everything locks up. I've also played many games all the way through with no problem whatsoever. I don't think that temperature is a problem since I always keep my apartment cool (or freezing if you ask my girlfriend ) and the computer has two cooling fans in addition to the power supply fan. Perhaps I should go ahead and download one of those programs that tells you how hot your computer is running though. Thanks for taking the time to help! Have Comfy Chair. Will Travel.
  12. Howdy, I am one of those that had trouble installing so perhaps that has something to do with my problem. I have the files that didn't load and everything seemed to be running all right until recently when I've had a couple of battles that just froze. Both times I've been clicking on a tank. What happens is the tank engine noise 'sticks' and starts repeating. The computer locks up including the keyboard. I have to hit the restart button to get it going. It doesn't happen in every game just the two so far. I know that makes it much harder to troubleshoot. Here's my system specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7VRX VIA KT333 CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2000 Memory: 256MB Samsung PC-2700 DDRAM Video: Leadtek GeForce 4 MX-440 Audio: Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Hard Drive: 80GB IBM 7200RPM DVD/CD: Pioneer 16X DVD 117 OS: Windows XP Home Edition The computer is almost brand-spanking new. I bought it from ABS in August. I am currently downloading the latest drivers for the sound card although to be honest I'm not sure what the current version of driver I have. Thanks for any light anyone could shed on this. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition [ October 06, 2002, 07:37 PM: Message edited by: Cardinal Fang ]
  13. Same thing here. I didn't notice it before. Perhaps this is the culprit? Have Comfy Chair. Will Travel.
  14. <thump! thump! thump!> Add another one to the list of those experiencing difficulty installing CMBB. <thump! thump! thump!> My system: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7VRX VIA KT333 CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2000 Memory: 256MB Samsung PC-2700 DDRAM Video: Leadtek GeForce 4 MX-440 Hard Drive: 80GB IBM 7200RPM DVD/CD: Pioneer 16X DVD 117 OS: Windows XP Home Edition <thump! thump! thump!> The computer is brand-spanking new. I bought it from ABS last month. <thump! thump! thump!> The first time I tried to install I received a CRC error. The second time I received something about unable to read I/O device or somesuch. Both attempts failed with a WAV file although I don't think it was the same file. <thump! thump! thump!> I tried copying the install to the hard drive and received a CRC error near the end. I knew I was in trouble when the "time remaining" went from 10 seconds to 15 then down to 10 then back to 15 then down to 10 where it stayed until the error message popped up. I could hear the drive change speeds when the first countdown change occured. <thump! thump! thump!> First install: BMP folder: 782MB 5,847 files WAV folder: 378MB 2,260 files Second install: BMP folder: 782MB 5,847 files WAV folder: 377MB 2,243 files In both cases the only other folder in the directory is titled OpenPlay Modules Please Please Please Please help. <thump! thump! thump!> Oh....the thumping? That would be me bouncing my head off of the table. <thump! thump! thump!> Damn hard to type doing that you know. Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!!!

  16. I'm not a grog. Well, I thought I was until I started lurking here. Then I discovered that I was at best a "Grog-Lite". However I did just recently purchase "Russian Tanks Of World War II (Stalin's Armored Might)" by Tim Bean and Will Fowler. ISBN 0-7603-1302-4 I was surprised when it gives the load out of the T-34 as: 19 rounds of BR-350A AP, 53 F-354 or OF-350 HE rounds, and 5 SH-350 rounds of cannister. So there's at least some documentation for you! I was surprised by three things. First that there was such a large difference between the number of AP rounds and the number of HE rounds carried. Second that they carried cannister normally. And Third that there was no mention of smoke rounds. Then again my knowledge of Russian armor wouldn't even qualify me for "Lite Grog-Lite" which is why I bought the book in the first place! Cardinal Fang Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!

  19. From July of 2000 to be exact. This message is mostly for Schrullenhaft who was kind enough to try to help me out way back then. It was then that I was having a lot of problems with Combat Mission locking up on my computer. I eventually got it to run by turning off the ambient sound and weather. I'd set CM aside (I know I know I'm a heathen) for the longest time and merely checked in on the forum to read all the interesting (and some of the uninteresting) posts. Well, I just upgraded DirectX to 8.1 and I had a thought about whether or not it would help with CMBO. It also dawned on me that since my problems I'd gone from 64MB RAM to 256 MB RAM and I had another CD drive to play with (my Kenwood has been nothing but trouble). So I fired up CMBO went to a scenario with fog that would always lock up my 'puter in seconds, turned on sound and weather and, lo and behold, no lockups! I played a couple of turns, went zooming around at view 1 (something guaranteed to cause a lock up before) and actually giggled out loud. I would guess that the extra memory has the most to do with it especially since everything seems quicker now. I just thought I'd post a success story even if it took almost a year and a half to write it. I am now going to play CMBO while anxiously awaiting CMBB. Thanks to all those who helped me in the past. 24. Howdy Folks! Amongst all the coupons in my Sunday paper was an advertisement for a new Matchbox collectible series. First the good news: The two tanks featured at the top of the advertisement are the 105 mm armed M4 and the PZ IVf1. I thought this was an interesting choice since these tanks are not likely to be recognized by most folk. I would've thought they would've stuck a Panther and a M4A3E8. The tanks in the collection are: M4a3 105mm, PZ IVf1, Churchill Mk4, PantherA, M4A3 76mm, PzIV H/J, T-34/76, and Wirbelwind. They do look pretty cool. Now for the bad news. They are $29.95 each. They list the wheelbase as being anywhere from 2 11/16" to 3 1/4" depending on the tank type. Now for the real reason I'm telling you all about this. In the ad copy it says "...and the Panther, the "big cat", that was the best tank in the world until America created the Sherman". It took my a second to pick my jaw back up off the floor. I just had to share this with everyone. Cardinal Fang. Nobody Expects The Spanish Inquisition!
