BigDork
I was wasting time during a meeting playing through the US campaign when I suddenly heard an explosion from the other side of the map. I clicked back the time and all I saw was a half squad with no AT assets had taken out a BMP. That's when I saw the luckiest rifle grenade shot ever. Or a bug. A lucky bug. https://youtu.be/96VebHfl3EQ
BigDork
Dang it. Put this in the wrong game.
domfluff
The 40mm 203 has a HEAT round, which is more than capable of taking out a BMP. It's not terribly reliable, especially from the front, but it can certainly do it.
Artkin
Wow that was a lucky shot, usually they just disable the apc in some way. It makes more sense given that your target was a bmp3, which is essentially explosives on tracks. I try to keep my infantry very far away from them.

Actually it does not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/40_mm_grenade It has HEDP, which would be hard pressed to destroy a BMP.
Artkin
I thought the 40mm was more than capable of getting penetrating hits on BMPs. I've had it happen plenty of times. And the OP got a really lucky hit which detonated a rolling bomb

HEDP is a shaped charge, which is more or less synonymous with HEAT. (It's just naming convention really) Plus it's rated for 63mm of penetration, and while the post-effect won't be great owing to the round size it's more than capable of destroying a BMP. BigDork
Thanks guys. I had no clue a grenade round was so effective. That really was a lucky shot. Those things rarely go on target in my experience. Just hit at the right place to really ruin that crew's day.
Rinaldi
Yeah its definitely lucky that you got a detonation like that, but the HEDP penetrating is perfectly understandable. Generally you got to pepper the damned BMPs - nevertheless great little video, thanks for sharing.
domfluff
Oh quite - hitting the thing at all at that distance was lucky, setting the ammo off was also somewhat lucky (but then hitting a BMP in the side/rear means you're quite lucky to be hitting *something* meaningful, and they are crammed with ammo and fuel - they're really only designed to take hits from the front, if at all)
Sgt.Squarehead
I didn't say it couldn't penetrate, I said it 'would be hard pressed to destroy a BMP'.....While there are many things in a BMP that will explode, there are a lot more that won't.
