Fizou
I haven't played CMBS a whole lot yet, but I noticed that in one mission with the US it was enough for my FO to have LOS via a UAV to call in fire, incl. precision munitions on whatever the UAV could see. In another mission that Im playing now, as the Russians, the FO can call in fire missions with the exception of precision munition (mortar) on what the UAV can spot. The precision munition still need direct LOS. Is this correct?
Chibot Mk IX
yes, US' PGM are GPS guided RUS/UKR's PGM are Laser guided so they need FO's LOS (to deploy the laser designator)
fireship4
As an aside, I found that you can assign UAVs to the highest HQ and subordinate units (including FOs) should be able to call artillery within observed areas while HQ gets up to the minute recon.

Does that just mean having the highest HQ be the one to call in the drone?
Erwin
I think it's simply a convenience to give the higher or highest HQ a mission as one rarely uses them so far front as to be useful as an FO. It frees up other FO's or HQ's to do actual fire calls.

Yes, and then their field of view seems to be passed on to subordinate units when it comes to artillery. Erwin
It's been a while since I played a modern game with drones,. But, IIRC it didn't matter which HQ/FO was operating the drone, any other HQ/FO seemed to be able to use it for targeting.
Fizou
Does the Russian 120 mm mortar PGM stand any chance to take out a Ukrainian tank with a direct hit?
Sgt.Squarehead
Doubt it TBH.....PGM effects against armour have been the subject of many discussions. Maybe give it a try, I'd be interested to know how it goes, but I wouldn't expect too much.
