Vergeltungswaffe
Theoretically it's "A Sherman Firefly of 7th Armored Division in a hull-down position near Gangelt on the Dutch-German border, 1st of January 1945"

umlaut
"Is that a bulge in your firefly - or are you just happy to see me?"
Warts 'n' all
2 hours ago, umlaut said: "Is that a bulge in your firefly - or are you just happy to see me?" Given where it was actually taken perhaps "Ging gang goolie" would be more appropriate.
James Crowley
In the book, Sherman Firefly by Mark Hayward (Barbarossa Books) this photo is captioned: A Firefly of an unknown unit, 1st January 1945, in a photograph taken by Sergeant Smith in Germany (probably Gangelt). Gangelt is about 8 km west of Geilenkirchen, north of Aachen. Tank Museum 2996/D5
