And I believe it was stated in another thread recently that white smoke is IR blocking but black smoke is not. I am guessing that WP smoke is included in IR blocking category.

Michael

Black smoke does not block IR, but only a small part of the white smokes do. Examples: Stryker smoke blocks IR, Bradleys does not. Artillery and throwables do not block IR. Most vehicle smoke doesn't block IR. The only one I am sure does block it is Strykers.

Hmmm ......... are you sure?  My understanding is all white vehicle smoke blocks IR.  And as you said, artillery, black smoke and throwables do not block IR.  Throwables, I like that, good description :D.

@Michael Emrys I don't think WP is IR blocking.  Only vehicle produced white smoke is IR blocking AFAIK.

Artillery smoke is definitely white phosphorus. I'm not so sure about medium mortar smoke. I don't believe infantry smoke grenades are. Tank-fired smoke shells is a non-issue in modern war titles. Modern Russian white popped smoke has different characteristics than the black 'offensive' smoke popped by cold war era vehicles. Its a pretty confusing subject, especially if we're discussing multiple titles across a 75 year timeframe.
