agusto
The new forum seems to be very attractive to Spambots. It' s really starting to get on my nerves. How about implementing some of the methods below, Battlefront? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_spam#Spam_prevention
Wicky
This is what I use on my websites and it stops spambots:

-E
Answering Spam posts can make it worse. Spam Bot's love replies. They can't read them, but replies show that people are reading the posts (it's all about stats). Try hitting the "Report" link (next to the quote button).

However on the CMSF thread I had to wonder if my aging pixeltruppen might actually need anti aging cream. difficult call.
ChrisND
Believe me, if we weren't already implementing anti-spam measures, a board of this size would be positively flooded in spam. There has an uptick in spam recently (that has been able to get through), so we added some additional measures earlier today, but no amount will stop a spammer from occasionally getting through, short of: A. Appointing a bunch of moderators to boot them the exact minute they show themselves, or B. Making it impossible for people to register.
agusto
There has an uptick in spam recently (that has been able to get through), so we added some additional measures earlier today,... Thanks. It' s good to see you care about the issues of your users. A. Appointing a bunch of moderators to boot them the exact minute they show themselves... That seems like a feasable option. Out of 37.000 registered members, some must be trustworthy enough to make the moderators. For example sburke, IanL and panzersaurkrauftwerfer have shown to be mature and reasonable, at least as far as i can remember. There are certainly a couple other people who would make good moderators as well.
sburke
mature, reasonable? Have you looked at my avatar lately?
agusto
i have the general impression you wouldnt abuse your moderator powers if you got them, that' s what i wanted to say. You know, like doing the Gestapo thing and letting people with different opinions dissappear. "I dont know where he went, i didnt ban him! He must have been the victim of ...errr....a most unfortunate software bug that accidentially removed his account and banned his IP forever. I will miss him deeply, really."

Normally I would agree with you, but honestly the crowd in this forum is so well behaved that it isn't really necessary to form a cadre of moderators. You guys continue to impress us with the amazingly positive and constructive attitudes. Just compare this place's forum to say, Blizzard forums. Or most other really big game companies. It's brutal in there!
