BTR
Ever since I got a look at how RA forces look, I've been meaning to get them looking right. Currently the Russian army adopted one single color scheme seen here: Current vehicles, I feel, are too bright (green shade), or too grey. This is my investigation into the tint that vehicles should have: Noticing how the PKM gunner doesn't stand out from the rest of the vehicle (as in the picture), I think I'm on the right track, but being new to CM texturing, I'd like to hear input from local experts. Please ignore green windows and rims, this is just a color demonstration . For comparison, this is how current Tigr's look: Edited February 1, 2015 by BTR
Fizou
I like it . No expert though.
Stagler
RF vehicles ingame need to be darker green yes. This is a project I wont be taking on just yet however. More uniforms need to come first.
MikeyD
Russian army actually adopted three color schemes. Light khaki for the far east (not in the game), a (very) bright green for the southwest and dark black-green for the northwest (Moscow and above, basically). The game's pretty evenly divided between the bright green and dark green colors. My preference is for the black-green but the two colors do help visually differentiate vehicle types BMP-3 from BMP-3M, MT-LM from MT-LB-M, etc. Edited February 2, 2015 by MikeyD
BTR
I believe the three colors was a temporary regulatory stance, and one color in the end has been adopted. If we look at Southern MD and North-Western MD, the coloring is the same. BTR
After several stages I think I've found what looks most authentic in CMBS's lighting (T-90AM in the middle):
Kieme(ITA)
Very interesting. I can see the strong difference with the vanilla T-90AM, I would try to brighten it a bit to fit the other two better, and also to make it better at longer distances (dark objects migth be even darker at distance in game) but it's just my personal taste. What did you do on the other two tanks? The BM3 seems a bit lighter. Edited February 7, 2015 by Kieme(ITA)
BTR
The other two are left with vanilla colors for comparison. Trying to get as close as possible to this (most comparable in terms of ambient lighting): http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8qiZ47lpHXk/TmES9m5IIJI/AAAAAAAAAOE/gL9CEU9g5nc/s1600/T-90.jpg So I might have to de-saturate further. Kieme(ITA)
Yes, judging from that picture the green is saturated, try that too.
BTR
De-vibrancing 10% seemed to do the trick. I'm fairly happy with the result for now. Bearing in mind it might look different on different monitors.
Kieme(ITA)
Yes I like that too. I am still a bit worried that the effect from far away might tend to be too dark though.
BTR
Yeah, I'd give that a test, but I keep crashing now .
BTR
Checked at 20-200-600-1000m distances, the "darkening" is, if at all there, not visible on my monitor.
Oakheart
Looking forward to getting my grubby hands on these.
Kieme(ITA)
I am also very tempted to see how it looks like. Especially before starting a Whole modding phase to add weathering to the vehicles...
BTR
Full shaders enabled LOD 1 http://imgur.com/ypRFCbu LOD 2 http://imgur.com/MMBg9nM LOD 3 http://imgur.com/PHO3ZG5 LOD 3 from far away http://imgur.com/EEYFZTY I think I understand what you meant by "too dark". Sometimes some sort of processing kicks in between LOD 2 and LOD 3 making all units artificially darker than they are otherwise. I'm not too sure I want to affect the palette due to that occurence. Especially since the brighter appearance is still there. Once I'll release this, I'll include all the PSD's for people to tweak . Kieme(ITA)
Thanks BTR. I like that green shade a lot, much more than any of the vanilla colors for russian vehicles. If it was for me I'd use it as a base for weathering. In case, brightening it would be necessary because the weathering would darken it by nature, but it's all to be seen while testing. BTR
I think brightening would occur naturally IRL as well with weathing especially during summer time in Ukraine as it gets quite hot. In essence, new: http://primamedia.ru/f/big/582/581344.jpg / weathered (dust and sand): http://www.mil.by/ru/forces/sv/equipment/pics/bronetank/bmp2/IMG_0564.jpg
BTR
Another progress report: Another question, tactical markings, yay or nay? Kieme(ITA)
I like that green a lot!! The tactical marking wouldn't be too large so I'm for them for sure !!
Oakheart
+1 random markings. I'm really looking forward to combining this with the autumn terrain ( http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=2508) , I think the dark graynes(Grey/green get it??lol?? ) would really work well. Combine with with Kieme's weathering and you have a combination that will make you crap a brick of joy.
