Aragorn2002
I've noticed that German Aufklärung squads only have rifles and one MG, no SMGs. In CMBB they still had one or two SMGs, but not in CMRT. I wonder whether this is historical or just not right. It sure limits their usefullness at close range. Especially when they meet Soviet SMG equipped squads.
Baneman
...For the sake of argument, I'm (now ) referring to an 8 man PzGr squad, with 2 MG42s and 1 (maybe 2) MP40s. Using "Split Squad", this squad splits into two teams of 4, each with an MG42, one with an MP40 as well and perhaps the other, too. ... Depends on the PzGr - sometimes you get just 1 MG42 and 1 MP40 per squad - splitting then has 1 element 4-5 men with MG42 and the other with the MP40 ( usually only 4 men ). But the theory remains sound. And if you're in the woods, the lack of extra MG42 isn't so terrible, the MP40 can do a good job when the ranges are low ( you did give him extra ammo, right ? )

Just off the top of my head, aren't Aufklarung squads only 6 men? With 2 MG42s? Sounds fairly useful up close to me... As to the historicality, I don't know myself, but I'd tend to think that BFC have had many years more to research the actual TO&Es since BB, so the later game is probably more representative. Edit: those are the Aufklarung squads I've seen, at least... on the Western Front. Maybe the OstFront formations ended up with fewer...
Andrew H.
If you can pick your own troops, getting a lot of 3-man scout teams can help even the odds or at least reduce casualties. They typically come with either 3 smgs or 2 smgs and 1 mp44.
Haggard Sketchy
I find the deadliness of the russian infantry in the woods magnified by the reluctance of the german troops to throw their damn grenades ...... they die without throwing even one nade with the enemy close, but have readily 10 in their posession - frustrating as hell - and they don't throw them most of the time even if given an area fire order close by ... CM:A had pretty effective use of nades. I wonder why the change?
womble
CM:A had pretty effective use of nades. I wonder why the change? I don't think anything has really changed. I see my pTruppen using and getting owned in their turn by grenades with acceptable regularity. I explain the complaints as cognitive dissonance. Sometimes they won't, and people remember those times, or got unlucky the one time they were forced to get to grenade range (if you can win with bullets, and not have to get in chucking distance, that's a far better option).
