Tanks a Lot
I guess that settles it, which means I'm screwed. I wish I knew the game had these issues before I bought my AMD card, because I'm not buying a new video card for one game.
Hpt. Lisse
I'll post something in Tech Support. Future drivers may change this. By the way, Tanks a Lot, I'm a huge fan of your semi-transparent tree mod. I think BF should make it standard-issue for CMx2 - have the option to cycle between no trees, just the trunks, semi-transparent (preferably user adjustable), and full foliage.
Hpt. Lisse
Phil Coulton commenting in the "Problem with shadows" thread in Tech Support (p.5) - " ...We actually use entirely different shaders for ATI/AMD cards, because we can't rely on them to follow the specs that work for Nvidia and Intel..." The culprit perhaps?
Sgt Joch
I'll post something in Tech Support. Future drivers may change this. I have raised it to the Beta group, it looks like a ATI driver issue.
Hister
Hpt. Lisse, what framerates do you get when playing huge scenarios/maps? And can you please let me know your CPU. Thank you.
Hpt. Lisse
Whole rig is on the first post in this thread ('New Tower'), with the exception of the GPU change from AMD 7870 2 GB over to the Nvidia GTX 770 2 GB. Frame rate is pretty steady at 30, using the "Vertical Sync - Adaptive (half refresh rate)" in the Nvidia control panel.

Juju made a more comprehensive semi-transparent tree mod with more options, you might want to check it out.

Sgt Joch
The issue seems to be with the "3d texture" setting. with my PBEM file of "Studienka", the game loads in about 80 seconds with Balanced/Balanced or Best 3d models/Balanced textures, but takes over 4 minutes at Best/Best. The only workaround for the time being is to play at Balanced/Balanced or Best/Balanced. If you have a high end system, the visual quality hit is small.
Mord
You could actually set the 3D model quality (before entering the game) as Fastest, then, during the game toggle through the model quality settings using the { } keys. Granted, you will have to redo this every time you leave the game but it may save you some time during loading. Mord.

Sgt Joch is right, the texture quality setting has a pretty big effect. I need the highest quality setting when working on mods, and I need to load the game many, many times.
Hpt. Lisse
Sell your card, man - NewEgg is running a promo on the EVGA GTX 770 card I just bought (of course, 'cause I just bought one a couple days ago.)
Tanks a Lot
Sell your card, man - NewEgg is running a promo on the EVGA GTX 770 card I just bought (of course, 'cause I just bought one a couple days ago.) Even after rebate, that's still more than $100 over the ATI card I got, plus mine has 3GB.
Mord
Yeah, when I mod I shrink the map down to the smallest size and only load what mod unit/model that I am working on. It saves some time. Mord.
Hpt. Lisse
Unless you're working at 4K (or three monitors), 2GB of VRAM should be okay...
