Places an exponential computational burden on LOS calculations, I gather, and also makes unit positioning and facing along the walls significantly more complex (you don't want guys on the wrong side or unable to deploy there at all). Possibly the CM3 engine will remove this constraint, if the developers break away from Action Spots (legacy 'hexes') as the underlying anchors for unit positioning and spotting.

EDIT: Oops, misread the question. I do know that 'diagonal' buildings are physically larger than the square ones, which can make the facades look weird (stretched).
