  1. Was wondering too, as am using the british infantry battalion and wanted to see whether the carrier section headquarters could use its carriers radio when dismounted (a la the mortar section using an nearby vehicle radio for indirect fire requests when they have none). But they could not. So when was reading that thought “huh how did you manage it then” until I got to the part saying that the scouts were mounted on the tank. Was wanting to see because the carrier section detachments cannot get voice c2 (only visual) with the carrier section headquaters when the latter is mounted in the carrier, dismounting the carrier section headquaters regains that voice c2 link with the detachments, but then looses the radio link with the carrier platoon headquaters. Am on my phone the moment at work so in the quick check of the goto relevant threads I did not see an answer (nor do I remember one). But am going to query on the benefits of voice over close visual other than the obvious. And what people consider the best thing to do with an carrier section given that limitation of them, maximise section headquarters c2 to platoon headquaters at the expense of section detachments c2 to section headquarters, or vice versa. But maybe can wait to get home and provide an better described question etc.
  2. kid......... am sorry, so please do tell, how many posts does one need to be able to agree with suggestions already mentioned when I also think they would be good to have in future updates? was there any need for you to say that, and then for me to say this in reply, either post constructive to the threads subject in the slightest?
  3. "Mix" as an choice for the "Service" setting in Quick Battles. Just because I would love to have an Platoon of Canadians or Polish supporting my British formations. The scenario builder allows you to use troops from multiple services, so why not also in quick battles. When troops share contact information with each other (no matter whether about friend or foe, no matter whether horizontal or vertical) I would like the position for the contact marker to be updated (only seems to update it's age at the moment). Become kind of my main annoyance at the moment I think. Plus some other things that have already been mentioned (shoot and scoot, scalable user interface, sorting out the graphical glitches, new acquire mechanic, moving weapon to get line of sight, and so on, toggle to make buildings opaque sounds interesting too).
  4. On that mission at the moment, damn that nuisance mining or booby-trapping, cost me about an sections worth men from an platoon that I was pushing through to continue the advance, odd thing though was that (or rather the stroke of luck for those concerned was that) I had already passed another platoon through those spots whilst attempting to get an foothold onto the train station. Someone in 14 Platoon seems to be an bit more heavy footed than everyone else in C Company. And obviously his mate then said "stuff that, it's cursed" and threw the Vickers back at him.
  5. Sorta an wego moment, blink and you miss it, so was only because of wego that managed to see it, and also what you see only seemed to persist during the watching phase, back on command phase was back to correct equipment heh. https://youtu.be/exilJmc-f0Y
  6. I asked the same to be fair, no comment as yet either, though I think aris terrains an good bet too which I already had, was interested in smoke mods that might have been in use and reckon since that that might also be aris dust and smoke too, so got that now too
  7. Maybe leaving that platoons headquarters with the mortar section and send the company headquarters (if available) along with the machinegun section to provide they're C2 instead (à la this)? Or maybe vice versa leaving the company headquarters (again if available) with the mortar section and sending the platoon headquarters along with the machinegun section? As at least (from what I have just tried in the British formations) the mortar section can continue to be used for indirect support when they are not in C2 with the mortar platoon headquarters so long as they are at least in C2 with the support company headquarters. Or just sending that platoon headquarters with the machine guns anyway, and resort to leaving the mortar section with no C2 and just providing the indirect fire support using the horizontal channels through having them within voice range of the unit that are going to do the spotting,?
  8. Also I guess to mention in relation to that avoiding the "emergency" setting for the mission as that skips the spotting phase entirely. Sure it's quick because that phase is skipped, but the rounds are not likely (from what have experienced so far) to go anywhere near the place you ordered.
  9. oops sorry should have thought about that, cmbn
  10. I was going to query (with apologies for doing so) whether what we are seeing was working as intended. As seemed an little strange to me that units being shared friendly information would only share (graphically at least) the age of contact and not the position. But never mind as I see this works in the same manner for enemy contacts (in both iron and elite) as just the age of contact is being shared not the position. Or maybe should still be querying? Without an unit selected the contacts seem to be shown to me as whatever was most recently seen/reported/shared. Difficult to know who to trust huh. I've attached the scenario that I am testing with. There's an four zones in the north, with an enemy truck in the first one, and you have three buildings that when you put an unit into cause the truck to leave those zones and move onto the next one. Send 3 Section to "Vantage Point" to get them to see which zone the truck is currently in. Move 2 Section around to the same side as 3 Section. Have 3 Section leave the "Vantage Point". Make the two sections meet to share the information. Have 2 Section go back around and share the information to their HQ, meanwhile send 3 Section into the required building to make the truck move zones. Repeat the process and see what changes for the big picture and each units picture. test.btt
  11. Scratch that I just noticed that they are not disregarding everything about later information. Each time I am sending 2 Section to 1 Platoon HQ to vertical report about 3 Sections new position although the location of the contact is not updating, the age of the contact is updating heh. And then same thing with 1 Platoon HQ vertical reporting over radio to B Company HQ. So some vertical reporting and horizontal sharing of friendly information within the battalion does seem to be going on from what I can see. And also put down another Company HQ and Platoon HQ, from another battalion, and other than the information being shared horizontally by 2 Section seems no different.
  12. Yeah I read that some people liked to use iron because they could get an sense upon what the section knows about the battle, but when I first tried the mode did seem somewhat cluttered and I could not make sense upon what I was seeing, so not used since, but think could be useful if I can understand it which is why I am interested in knowing this. I've just been mucking about with it right now, and you stated it surprised you and seemed odd, and well am going to echo that I've made an dead simple map (my first try with scenario editor too ha) with an large wall like terrain elevation going down right down the middle, this terrain elevation stops near the north to make an "gateway" between the two sides, on the left side I have B Company HQ, 1 Platoon HQ, and 2 Section, on the right side I have 3 Section. So everyone is in the same company. B Company HQ, 1 Platoon HQ and 2 Section cannot see 3 Section. I ran 2 Section through the "gateway" and next to 3 Section. 3 Section shortly received contact markers for B Company HQ and 1 Platoon HQ. I ran 2 Section back through the "gateway" to Voice C2 with 1 Platoon HQ and yep 1 Platoon HQ then had contact markers for 3 Section. Also to note was that 1 Platoon HQ was in Radio C2 with B Company HQ whom shortly later also had contact markers for 3 Section too. So at this point everyone knows where each other are and seemed to show that friendly dispositions could be passed within the Battalion. However I then repeated this process after having moved 3 Section to an new position. I must have ran for about 15 turns and 1 Platoon HQ never received contact markers for 3 Sections new position, just the old one. So kinda seemed like they would provide information about friendly dispositions between units within the battalion, though just the first report would be accepted, after that they would disregard any reports and only trust what they see. Might download some fraps so I can take screenshots at some time.
  13. thanks for the answer, was aware about the variation between iron and others about friendly spotting and so question was rather just about in iron mode, an tad confusing heh may have to go ahead and try to get an proper understanding anyway so for example an company headquarters will only end up knowing the position for one of its platoons sections once it gets eyes on that section on its own, does not matter that the company headquarters is in any type communications with anyone else in that platoon which has seen that section, but another company headquarters from an entirely different battalion can end up knowing the position for that exact same section from those people and not have to get eyes on itself, does this other company headquarters also erase/replace their contact markers
  14. Or (assuming I understand the question and answer too) you can just leave one radio equipped recce troop vehicle with someone from the infantry battalion. For example say you have an recce troop of two staghounds and one humber supporting an infantry company, you leave the humber with anyone from the infantry company, the two staghounds go on an recce, when stationary the staghounds are going to radio back to the humber what they have seen (using verticle coms), the humber tells the nearby infantry unit what it now knows (using horizontal coms).
  15. Original thread was an interesting read, and its great to now see the accompanying images, thanks! Question for anyone that knows (otherwise might try out myself later should I have time to) in the image I've quoted below B Company HQ are in radio contact with 1 Platoon HQ and so having been reported about 1 Platoons current positions has contact markers for them. Now then suppose 1 Platoon then moves North into the woods and reports their new position. So obviously B Company HQ are going to see an new set of contact markers for 1 Platoon in those woods, but my question is that because they now know 1 Platoon are not in the positions previously reported but now at the new positions, are they going to forget the old position and remove those contact markers for them? Depending on answer have an further query. Would be interesting to know who an unit thought some contact marker was, for example say an HQ having an contact marker and on seeing that the unit believes thats 1 Section thinking holy defecation 1 Section are nowhere near that and there must be some break in C2 somewhere to find.
  16. Alright I see then. Though I rather do not think I am wanting to perform some "complex synchronized ballet of movement" and believe I am being patient in my actions, clock and assigned objectives seems to think so. Interested though on the using the whole 60 seconds, so you would not use the Timed Pause for such purposes, and just do an movement per turn even though the distance might be slight. Does that not eat up much in your time limits? I enjoy that loss in control too that you get in WEGO, not to mention being able to replay what happened for each of my sections. Though some small redundancy in orders is not amiss for me where realistic, imagine some real orders can have some element of "when carrying out orders if a happens do b"? Beauty in this game seemed to be some of the elements of realism and historical aspects, such as the need for keeping c2 links, the relative spotting, and to & e. So would have thought that if what c3k wrote about Jenkins and Smith was how the order would realistically be given, then that would have been an suitable thing to replicate. But consider me defeated then.
  17. Yeah do not worry I am not caring about the bounds being that precise either. And I am trying to learn such things on my own, though I was just going to want some judgements (again not expecting precise things) on what people find works for them, from those who have that experience already. Do you mean prior to A reaching the action spot that B is watching for them at? Then B would not move given that the condition for their movement is not met? And once the turns over you can just un-pause B to send them in anyway or else change their orders. Just as I imagine you might with the Pause Command. Question then using the Timed Pause Command what happens in that situation?
  18. hey, new poster, owned CMBN since May I imagine that might be complicated to carry out user interface wise, though would that not be an argument for including some sort of "Pause Until Friendly Seen" command, say something similar user interface wise to the target commands though which made your units pause indefinitely and watch an targeted action spot, and then once an allied unit was seen in that action spot resumed the units orders. I imagine would be interesting with the friendly fog of war that's present too. I was also wanting to question the same thing as the OP, as was trying to do some section bounding, and having some slight trouble (even when not under fire) with ensuring the pauses I provided ensured that whilst one was moving the other was stationary and covering.
  19. hey, first time poster, owned CMBN since May I do not care that much about whether I can get my troops to shoot through an smoke screen, however I do wish that I could at least create the target order through the smoke, my troops then aiming but not firing until they then can then see the subject of my target command (just as they seem to do on an targeted enemy that becomes temp hidden from view). At current an single second in time (where smoke is present for the orders turn) ends up preventing suppression or any other such targeting orders from occurring for up to an minute of time, even though the thing that preventing you in that single second of time no longer exists. I was going to write some examples but I am sure many here would know or could think up such examples. just like saying "1 section, were going to get to that trench under smoke cover, then as soon as the smoke clears start suppressing that building" or "1 section, an smoke screen is going to cover 2 sections movement, but get ready to start suppressing that building should the smoke clear before they get to their destination" or something
