  1. I leaved the CMBS more than a year, but returned after 4.0 engine. You could regard me as a beginner. I'm OK with QB or Scenario, US/UA/Rus all OK, all battle size is fine. Prefer meeting engagement, but attack/defense or others are also fine as well.
  2. Variable turn times based on faction characteristic and EW would be great for the CMBS. Good example is the Flashpoint Campaign Red Storm. I really like WEGO system in that game. But not sure whether the CMx2 series would be able to introduce this idea in current game system or not.
  3. Long time no see CM gamers. Something is going on in Korea. I briefly introduced about what is going on there. http://community.battlefront.com/topic/120619-meanwhile-in-korea/
  4. I'm very busy recently, couldn't play game or participate in campaign plan at all (Sorry kohlenklau, I will reach you when I'm ready). I'm writing 2 papers at the same time, and working on third project now. The deadlines are not so far. I'm really under lots of pressure. But recent move in my home country (I'm Korean) is in the middle of .... interesting turmoil. Nothing visible yet. I don't think that there will be a full scale war BT SK/US and NK, but the chance is continuously rising. They are 'communicating' with loud speaker and artillery. So, I decided to briefly introduce what the heck is going on in Korea. It is very brief and short. For more information, plz check other news papers. It was started by land mine incident by NK forces, 4th of Aug. They set mines on the routes for SK recon troops inside the DMZ. (Divisional / Regimental recon units. All SK divisions and regiment near DMZ operate patrol and watch missions inside the DMZ, specially southern half of the DMZ.) It was wood-boxed AP mine, designed to blow up the knee/ankle of victim. SK no more use wood-boxed mine, we use plastic, as well as US (Unlike elsewhere, we all still use mines in Korea. Obviously, the mine is coming from the North.) As a result, 2 soldiers lost their legs. NK claimed that the mine was not coming from north, saying NK is not responsible for the mine incident. Of course, the mines are set by NK soldiers, possibly by their recon units, or NK light infantry or SF units. Crazy "the Fat" Kim of the North needed some attention and food. Or, it was their response to the SK-US UFG drill. As a retaliation, in 10th of Aug, SK DoD and SK government decided to resume the loud-speaker broadcasting, which was halted from 2004 by agreements of both sides. Loud-speaker broadcasting is very effective psychological warfare weapon in DMZ. Lots of defected NK soldiers also testified that the broadcasting was very accurate, direct & straight, and even funny & little sarcastic. Unlike radio, which can be countered by jamming, loud-speaker broadcasting is very effective, since it directly affects NK soldiers, and is unable to jam or interrupt. It influenced many DMZ front line NK soldiers, so NK gov really hate that. So, as we resume the anti-NK broadcasting, they warned us that "This is great threat to the Great glorious leader, turn that **** off or we will shoot". South replied "apologize the mine incident, and punish the responsible commander" NK says "No, the mines are not ours" SK replied "BS"...... And 20th of Aug, NK shoot 14.5mm and 76.2mm (direct fire) to the South, near the known loud-speaker location. (Not sure that was warning of miss) SK retaliated with 36 155mm shells. SK arty didn't hit the target, just warning shots near the NK targets. The reason why the North didn't used indirect howitzers or arty shots is supposed that they didn't want to open their arty positions to us, especially anti-battery radar. So, they fired 76.2mm. Crazy "the Fat" Kim get mad, saying "This is blasphemy to the Great republic and Great leader, prepare war~!" NK build up their artillery number, preparing new shells, ammo, and other supplies. Some of the new arty units coming to the near-DMZ area from the North, as reinforcements. It was all detected by SK/US recon assets. In 21th of Aug, commander in chief of NK said "We will give you 48 hrs imperialists. If you continue your broadcast, we will shoot" and SK replied "Kiss my ass" and continued the broadcast. SK and US also responded with reinforced positions and armors, more number of artillery, and increased recon/air patrol. Report says that many part of US 2nd ID already mobilized, including the US troops participating the UFG drill. Not to mention about SK forces. Major part of SK army are on alert from the 10th of Aug. Aug 22th, suddenly, the North suggested the talk. And SK accepted. Right now, they (2 from north, 2 from south) are talking in Panmunjum more than 6 hrs. Even during the talk, the North never retreats or fall back, and still aiming at the loud-speaker positions. In addition, a moment ago, US troops, including M1A2 and MLRS, fielded near Panmunjum area, just right behind the area. It seems that the troops of both sides "face-off" each other, similar with Checkpoint Charlie incident (this is purely my opinion, not the fact). I think this is also the way of 'communication' between each other. Especially, against the communists, 'communication with power' is essential and effective. They are nasty bastards. We South Koreans learned this during 70 years of the stand off. Remind that the communists are good at "back-stabbing during talk" strategy, some of experts claimed that the talk is just a distraction. I don't know. Maybe the North think that they are not in good position, so they suggested the talk first.... I don't know where the event will going to flow, but I think the chance of full scale war is not that great. NK and Kim clearly knows well, that the second Korean war means the end of NK. Since NK's the first priority is survival and maintain of their system, they will not gonna attempt any stupid suicidal action. However, I really wish the SK and US teach a lesson this time, to the Crazy the Fat Kim and NK dynasty. And no one is sure about the future. There are still the chances for unexpected radical action, or escalation of conflict.... I special thanks to all the US and ally service men and women, anyone who served or serving in South Korea. Without you guyz, Korea would not survived. Thank you very much. BFC, if you have chance, think about the scenario of SK+US vs NK+China. This will be really interesting match up, and one of the likely-to-happen scenario for the full scale war. Add) Report says that the Chinese armored columns (including tanks and howitzers) are concentrating near NK-China border. It seems China also want to "communicate" with US and SK.... or it is to warn NK, not to escalate the situation.
  5. I still believe that was borderline broken, and strange enough to break my expectations, but I also admit that my judge was too fast. Like I mentioned in prior post, if the same thing happens, I will get the ticket and report directly. The reason behind that video was to report and share, and to check is there any other ppl who had same issue. Whole discussion was meaningful to understand what is happening in the air of CMBS, at least to me. Thanks to let me know and share your experiences. So, now it seems that I was in "very unlucky" region of the "unpredictable AA behavior map". That makes me a bit comfortable, it was not bug, or I'm not the only one who had multiple misses. It seems the god of AA in CMBS loves to roll the dice. Thank you.
  6. 1. No, only the vehicles of anti air platoon, as far as I remember. 2. That might be the precision arty round.
  7. I understand but I can clearly say your "overkill" theory is wrong. If you talking about "poking the bear" mission, there were 3 Tungus and 1~2 igla teams as well, and more tungus come to the battlefield later. That situation was also "overkill" just like you mentioned. There, my F16 shot down by a single shot, didn't even had a chance to evade. I remember, at that time, I saw 4~5 smoke trails. In addition, I usually bring 4+ stinger teams when I play US, and those "overkill" never happened to them as well. 1~2 shots of stinger (among 4~5 trails) always doomed enemy airs without any problem. Here, 2 Tungu + 3 Igla-S launched 12 missiles and all missed. There were two F15s. One of his F-15 evaded soon after the SAMs launched, but another didn't even evade, and successfully bombed one of the most important vehicle during that turn, (you can see big explosion in the middle of video) while those 12 missiles coming to them. Then, at the next turn, my opponent cancelled the fire missions of his two F15s. He mentioned that they were elite or crack. Someone claims, because the opponent canceled the mission, this might be the successful air defense. I would think the same, only if the second airplane didn't bombed correctly on my vehicle. But one of the F15 finished his mission, and didn't even scratched or interfered by 12 SAMs. That is not the good air defense, at least in my book. Maybe there is a some factor that leads the unusual declination of accuracy of SAMs..... I don't know, Honestly, I'm also more in pessimistic point of view that this game may have a bug in AA system. Maybe I was "ultra unlucky" that time, But anyway, for me, this situation is very difficult to accept and understand. I know **** happens a lot on the battlefield, (and I myself was on the duty from 2002 to 2004), but that was really out of my boundary of understanding. I will stop conversation regarding this issue here, but this will gonna remains in my head as one of the great mystery ever had in this game. If similar thing happens again, then I will get the ticket to ask. Yes there was a Anti air platoon leader with his fancy vehicle, but it seems he also need to follow the road to the Gulag.
  8. I don't know how the airplanes and their flight trjectory are modeled here, so not sure that moment was realistic or not. In terms of game mechanics, frankly I feel it is strange. During Poking the bear mission, I also lost 1 f16 by a single SAM from Tungu. But here, 12 missiles missed all. Naturally I was very surprised. Still, my personal opinion is, one of the 12 should have claimed one plane. Im curious about what really happened there. If it is a bug, then BFC will fix it. If it is not, and one of the "once in a million" event, than I need to accept.
  9. 2 Tungus + 3 Igla-S. My opponent is US player, he told me that there were 2 airplanes at that time, both survived and canceled mission without damage. I guess those might be combination of F16 or F15, or both. It should have claimed at least one plane. I still can't believe this. I'm not sure his pilots were elite or not. I will ask. (Is this true that elite airplanes have higher chance to dodge SAM and AAA?) But still. 12 missile should have downed at least 1 plane IMO. This is too harsh to just regard it as "very unlucky event". How can I rely on AA cover with this level of accuracy?
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKIF--VPo84&feature=youtu.be From recent ongoing PBEM match. Until this moment, I never had a chance that this game is particularly trolling me, but I think now is the moment. How 5 of crack, high motivation, +1 leadership AA units missed 12 SAM missiles? Plus, Tungus missed 2~3 AAA shots. I can record additional videos as evidences if anyone wants. My opponent was also very surprised about survival of his fixed wings. Am I particularly very unlucky? Or is this game trolling me? Or do the Redfor AAs have bug or trouble? Please anyone, give me reasonable explanation behind this. How this can happen? Should I need to officially report to BFC? If I were real Russian commander and if I have proper authority and power, I already sent those AA units to Gulag, specially to the deep, deep side of Siberia.
  11. From recent PBEM match. Armored game against US mech is always difficult. Redfor graveyard Blufor graveyard His nickname wasn't true, but did the most serious damage to my forces. This guy was also pain in the ass, claiming 4 tanks. Lucky AT-15 kill This guy tanked total 6~7 AT-15, with frontal armor + APS. But eventually, couldn't took them more. This T-90 bravely sacrificed himself to save the flank, with one very important Abrams kill. Khrizantema graveyard. Escorting T-90s tried their best, but their optics were not good enough to see them coming. And DU frontal armor was too damn thick Hero tank Hero Khriz Playing Ru army in CMBS OBEM is fun, but sometimes I feel myself why am I torturing myself Still I believe that all Rus vehicles in game (and UA vehicles too if needed) need a bit of price discount. (Though I don't think that will be realized)
  12. Thank you John, you always teach me a lot.
  13. First option is not a good idea, since I want to directly choose the vehicle for deployment for my favor. Second option is the only way that redfor can do, but single vehicle purchasing costs more. Yes, I thought the same thing. Is this reported, or any explanation behind this?
  14. I'm curious, can I choose different BMP-3M variants within a formation? For example, like 1st platoon = Arena, 2nd platoon = Shtora, and 3rd platoon = ERA or normal. It seems I cannot change the statues of single vehicle or platoon within the entire formation. This is very inconvenient, because the single vehicle purchase is a bit more expensive than formation ones. Any good idea how to mix the different variants in formation during QB for redfor? Thanks
  15. They field 3 at once, total 6 smoke grenades. But I'm not sure it is proper demonstration or not. Or it could be a bug, since the skin of BMP-2M is strange now. ps) BMP-2M's smoke is white and IR blocking.
  16. Thanks panzer and others, now I know how AT-15 works. It needs the radar from the roof of the vehicle. So it doesn't need crew's control and guidance, but I can't say it is perfect F&F.
  17. It seems ingame Khrizantema is not F&F. It was not a test, but during a PBEM match. Abrams detected -> Khrizantema launched a missile -> during the AT-15 in the air, the Abrams moved fast to the area where Khriz crews can't see. -> AT-15 immediately piled to the ground, leaving a big crater. It behaves like SACLOS in CMBS. But by the contents I read, http://www.army-guide.com/eng/product1650.html The system's unique feature is its two modes of guidance. In the primary mode both the priority target is tracked and the missile guided automatically by a millimetre-waveband radar by day and night under any battlefield conditions (dense smokes, dust, fires, fog, rain, snow, etc.), without the gunner having to obtain visual contact with the target. In the second mode which is semi-automatic laser beam riding, the sight must be kept on the target until the missile strikes home. The fire control system allows two targets to be engaged simultaneously, using different modes of guidance. http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/khrizantema.htm The first mode of guidance, in which the missile is guided by a radar mounted on the left side of the roof, is automatic under both day and night conditions, and does not require the gunner to maintain visual contact with the target. This virtually means the implementation of the fire-and-forget principle. The second mode, in which the missile rides a laser beam aimed from the sight mounted on the front right side of the glacis plate, is semi-automatic and requires the sight to be kept on the target until the missile strikes home. The system allows two targets to be engaged simultaneously using either the same or different modes of guidance.7 These contents say that the AT-15 missile does not need direct sight of gunner, and work like F&F. Wikipedia says AT-15 uses ACLS and SCALOS. Who is the right explanation about this missile?
  18. No, all redfor vehicles can launch the smoke only twice. Not sure about blufor.
  19. Several test results for redfor vehicle smokes 1. BMP-2 and BMP-2K's black smoke is NOT IR blocking. I tested with AT-6 Shturm-S vs Abrams in hotseat mode. Shturm failed to see the Abrams in the open behind the black smoke, but Abrams clearly can see the Shturm through the black smoke. It seems Shturm use visible light spectrum, while Abrams can see in thermal, so that black smoke helped Abrams to kill redfor units lol. One good thing of black smoke is that, it generates smoke more longer than white ones. The smoke grenade for black smoke discharges the gas more than 1~1.5 min, can provide the screen around 1.5 min even in heavy wind. 2. BMP-3M ERA have NO smoke at all. I didn't knew this, but BMP-3M ERA doesn't have any smoke launchers. Smoke button is deactivated from the beginning. I will not use this unit anymore from this moment. (Maybe against UA army?) 3. BMP-3M Shtora and T-90A can launch smoke only twice. Actually, BMP-3M Shtora have more smoke launchers on the turret than other BMP-3 variants. It launches 6 smoke at once, so field more wider smoke. That is all. Total possible number of smoke discharge is 2, as same as other redfor vehicles. There are no 3+ smoke discharging redfor vehicles in this game. Is this true for real world Rus vehicles? 4. Shturm-S automatically changes the position after launch. This was surprising, I didn't expect the Shturm-S can shoot & scoot automatically. However, I think it would be anyway useless against Abrams or Bradley's optics. In addition, this kind of unwanted movement would expose its position, or easily give up good hull down position, and I don't know how to stop automated shoot and scoot. So, I think I won't use this unit.
  20. Thanks to share your experience~! I only saw Abrams thermal sight in Steel Beast series. Do you think that simulation well depicted the real IR visions?
  21. Yes I'm greatly interested about pbem (or realtime) grand campaign. I will PM you soon. Thanks The thing I mentioned was Battle of Kherson. http://community.battlefront.com/topic/118901-battle-of-kherson/?p=1596093 I have no news or screenshot or anything from this campaign so far. I send PM to him but no response.
  22. I really want to if I can, but I have no idea about how to make grand campaign strategic map, what are the important things to be a game master, and what rules should be there and etc.... Gundoc opened one multiplayer campaign, but I couldn't hear anything about that campaign after last post. How about 3~5 grand campaign made up of 10~15 missions, 10~15 operations made up of 5~8 missions, and 20+ single battles? Like most of the close combat series do.
  23. I don't know the BFC have a plan for CMBS, but I also want more single play campaigns. 4~5 missions for each factions was not enough at least for me. (Also, I wish a pbem or realtime based multi-player grand campaign, with strategic map and a game master, but this is different story... )
  24. I also really hope dedicated multiplay server for Realtime and 1min multi players. If there is a buddy-friend, chatting, and memo system, that would be awesome. More multi player = more fans of CM series = increase of sales. Also I feel like the single player contents of CMBS are not enough, so hope the multi player contents compensate it. Dedicated server will greatly help this.
