  1. Wait...the AI can acquire AT asset? Your sentence is weird so I am not sure if that is what you are saying.
  2. Two things about acquire/unacquire from my perspective: 1) Unacquire is a sore gap in commands. I bet 90% of my battle setup restarts are because I accidentally acquired ammo, AT, etc. assets I didn't want to. 2) Acquire for the AI is a close second in gaps. AI troops can't acquire any assets and that leaves a very large advantage to the human player.
  3. The big step forward was the big update on the game. I am reading into this that people aren't demanding some solid date on release, but looking for a more than once a year update on where their games are in development. There are 5-6 games and everyone has their favorite. I am reading into this that customers just want some communications, beyond the quick spurts that come along after months of grumbling. This is especially true of a patch. If a patch is being worked on, can we at least get an idea of what is being worked on?
  4. I was going to jump in and l was going to throw down Project Cars 2, IL-2 BOS, and DCS as examples that can't play on older systems. But I checked their minimum specs and they all have specs that are at least five years old. The DX11 requirement is probably the closest deal killer. But other than that, they all seem to be able to run on 6-7 year old systems. So I would have to say there aren't any games I have seen out there that require 2-3 year old specs.
  5. Two ways to look at it: 1) They dominate the market 2) The market is so niche no one really wants it. Maybe is half way in between.
  6. Panzer Command had a lot of nice features and in some ways better graphics than CM1. As soon as CM2 came out, I couldn't play it any more. It had some really good C&C features that were kind of groundbreaking. It was easily moddable. But had a lot of issues in the details. 2D games actually handle LOS with LOS tools. They are pretty effective. While I like playing in the 3D world with CM, there are so many abstractions and not really WYSIWYG so that it doesn't bother me much. I don't think BFC really worked on ToW. I thought they just distributed it.
  7. Isn't the M1 laser warning system optional? You only get it when you choose APS options.
  8. 1) Its not released yet and has been worked on for quite a while. 2) Its kind of poor form to use a company's game forum to advertise a competitor's game. 3) Even if you lacked the common courtesy about posting a link to the game, it probably be in the General Discussion forum Despite that, I played the free version a lot and it has a lot of potential. Its been in development a long time and am hopeful it is nearing release.
  9. "Within that CM is still one of the most stable games I have. I get crashes quite frequently with others and it takes a lot for me to cause that with CM. I pretty much have to keep loading really big maps in the editor to 3d view over and over. " I don't get crashes in CM either. But I can't remember the last time I had a crash in ANY game. I think I had a crash in CMNAO last year on a very large scenario. But generally, I see games as becoming more and more stable on modern systems. Now my brother overclocks and he gets crashes on games like IL2:BOS and Project Cars 2. So I am curious what games and what kind of system you are running that gets so many crashes.
  10. It's not an assumption. It is a fact it only runs on one core. Other cores can offload background stuff, but do nothing for CM.
  11. I find it strange with all the discussion about how CM2 performs and even BFC stating it isn't optimized for modern PCs that you would come in be surprised when a number of people push back. Bulletpoint isn't out in left field on this issue. Its a well discussed topic. How about telling us your PC specs and what you get for fps on specific scenarios. That should settle it.
  12. I think all the teeth gnashing and hand-wringing still only points at OpenGL and the way its implemented in CM. IIRC, not only is BFC using OpenGL, their libraries are based on older versions of OpenGL. OpenGL has progressed over the years and the video card makers have to progress with it or be out of the CAD market, which is a big market. It might be a double whammy.
  13. My brother and I upgrade our PCs almost every year. The framerates for both of us have improved only slightly. My current laptop is an i7-8650 (3.8GHz) with an nVidia 1060 It runs and loads only slightly faster than my 4-year old i7-4720 (2.3GHz) with a 745 . At max settings, the 8650 sees around 31 fps in Barkmann's Corner. The 4720 saw about 29. The biggest difference I saw was an SSD that allows somewhat faster loading and seems to load textures on the fly a little faster. My brother has a desktop he just built from scratch with a similar CPU, but a 1080 and sees almost no difference. The short of it is, CM2 doesn't really take advantage of new capabilities of CPUs and GPUs and hasn't for years. CM2 likes raw horsepower. If all you run is CM games. Get the fastest CPU you can, regardless of the number of cores. An average 1-2 year old GPU is more than enough. One slightly weird thing is my son has a school laptop optimized for CAD, where OpenGL is a mandatory support criteria. His runs CM2 better with an MX150 than my 1060. Everything on DirectX my laptop kills his. But not CM2.
  14. I bought SL and ASL at the hobby shop in The JFK plaza on JFK Drive in Waterville. It was an hour drive and I would save money for a month. Happy memories.
  15. I bought some ASL stuff at the Toy Soldier when back home for a bit in the late eighties.
  16. My Mom lives in the Rangley mountain area of Maine now. Zero cell and she just got DSL a couple months ago. Those rural areas are the forgotten parts of the US. Our download society leaves them behind.
  17. My Mom sold her house in Hartland, a beautiful old Victorian in the center of town, for $12k five years ago. And it was on the market for over a year. That is central Maine real estate. My wife and I considered buying it, but realized the drive up from Boston would make maintaining it in the Maine winter almost impossible. Unless you work for Cianbro in Pittsfield or the government, there is little to make a living off of. In fact, they still have no high speed internet and limited cell coverage. I should point out that most real estate buyers are retired people from Mass trying to get away.
  18. Frankly, $22k in Dexter...he got ripped off. Since Dexter Shoe closed, its hard to make a living there.
  19. I grew up in Hartland. Kids either went to UMaine or MMA out of high school (Nokomis HS). I managed to get out of cycle. My Dad lived on the Dexter/Corinna line. He literally lived on Line Rd. Also known as the middle of nowhere.
  20. I suspect you'll have to wait at least a couple days... "Our store is offline while we transition existing customer information and past orders to our brand new website. We are unsure how long the transition will last. Our estimate is July 8, but much of the timing is out of our hands. Please be patient." From the BFC store.
  21. Did it really take someone posting that for it to get across?
  22. btw, if you take the time to read what is in CMBS and CMSF2, its obvious its not just updated models. There is only a very limited crossover of models between the games.
  23. The biggest pull is more content. The NATO module by itself brings in numerous countries. Again, just do a little work and go find the OOBs for NATO, British, and and Marines. Forget about features not in CMBS. Save that for the new features thread. The question was what is the attraction to CMSF2 for CMBS fans. If you already play CMBS, go read up on CMSF and that will answer all questions. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=180&Itemid=234 http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=217&Itemid=332 http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=257&Itemid=430 I really didn't think this was hard.
  24. I think the frustration leaking through is because the main question you asked has been answered, even in the initial stages of CMSF2's public announcement... Its CMSF in the CMBS engine. Not sure how much more you meed to be told. Take what you like about the CMBS game and its engine, put the CMSF setting on it, play. If the setting doesn't float your boat, you can move on. Asking for all kinds of new features is just going to have numerous people telling you to read the announcements.
