I'm on Mission 3 and really enjoying this one!  I love that it alternates back and forth between US paratroops and the IG Commonwealth troops!

Quick question, if anyone knows and not to be a spoiler, but curious if anyone can fill me in on all the ditches on this map?  Where these canals for drainage of all the low wetlands or some other man-made feature particular to that region?  They are very pronounced and deep and I'm just wondering what they are meant to historically represent.

Some of them should look more like this. Not as deep as they appear in game. And with enough greenery for the Panzerknacker teams to hide in so that they could take out the Shermans. Which were not knocked out by AT Guns despite what Hollywood would have us believe.

All correct. The system is not too far off but the number of players who play H2H is a fraction of the number of players who play against the AI and they see the number who would play a campaign via PBEM as a fraction of that. So, it's just never percolated up high enough in priority for them to spend time on.

If my 365 years of life have taught me anything, it is this, "Always listen to a Canadian Cat, they breed wise over there".

Not sure this is the proper place to bring this up so redirect me if not.

Is there some reason campaign games can't be played H2H?  Seems like they'd be great fun.  Is it because a real player taking the AI side would do a much better job?

Not quite the right place as this thread is about a specific campaign that is in development. The short answer is "No" campaigns can't be played H2H. It is something that has been discussed many times over the years, but it doesn't appear to me that BFC have any plans to change the way campaigns work.

Which leads me to my question. I didn't play the full two hours because I hit the ceasefire button once I had achieved more than half of my objectives (55 mins in). Is that legal? There's nothing to say that you can't hit ceasefire, but it meant I ended the scenario before any possible counterattacks and achieved a major victory

Is hitting ceasefire allowed or do I have to play each scenario full length

You will often see CM videos on youtube where the player ceases fire before the end. And of course there is nothing to stop you doing so. But the aim of this particular thread is to give @WimO as much feedback as possible as to how this campaign plays out. So even if you are having a hard time in a future mission I would try and stick it out to the end.

My guess is you didn't try to reach Assembly 2 at all?

Did you face German counterattacks at Cauquigny?

Your guess is correct I steered well clear of Assembly 2. The two man scout team who I mentioned were lucky to get off as lightly as they did considering they cam under fire from four different Gerry units. After that I just headed off to Millets victory location.

Counterattacks? Yes, I did. Hardly any Germans survived

    AAR Boots on the Ground

I just finished the scenario. I played until full time (2 hours), it took me about 6 hours.

Just as a reminder, I'm a newbie as this was only my 14th Combat Mission scenario.

I scored a "Total Victory" (15 casualties on my side, 59 on the German side). I got all location VP, except Assembly 2

As a "newbie" you can be forgiven. But it is best to begin such a detailed overview with the phrase "SPOILER ALERT" at the top of the post, so that people who are yet to play or finish the mission don't have their fun ruined.

To Warts 'n' all: Unfortunately every map is going to have the typos because they are a function of errors in the Master Map. Over the past hour, I have corrected all the label erros in all the maps but that's no help to those already playing. I won't recompile until I hear if there are more erros. I considered translating all the texts in the campaign to French as well since for our French-Canadian, Belgian and French players and also considered Dutch and German but then I thought .. too bxxxdy much time.

I don't mind the typos. It's only when some Scots gits changed their name from Steward to Stuart that I got a bit tetchy.

Thank you for the 'slack' Warts & All. Yes, I tend to make typos quite frequently and also miss too many despite proof reading.

You're more than welcome, Mate. Over the years, we've had maps that use nothing but US English, maps that use nothing but French, and some that use a mixture of the two. I'm sure if we wait long enough someone will come along and demand that you change it to "Chapelle".

Okay, enough of this bolleaux, I'm cracking on with Mission 1.

« Cauquigny Capel » should be « Cauquigny Chapel »

I had to have a little chuckle over this one. In Kent we have a village called Capel-le-Ferne i.e. a chapel built on a site where ferns once grew. Over the years it has been, Marie in the Verne (Church of St. Mary being the name of the chapel), Capel ate Verne, Capell, and Capell' in le Ferne. So I suppose we can cut @WimO a bit of slack, if he makes the odd typo or two.
