Really suffering from this too. Maps seem great, but I mainly see featureless low detail.
Fact I got slaughtered in first NTC mission probably didn't help....

First US NTC mission of training campaign - NTC 1B (ouch!). Briefing says 155mm howitzer in direct support but does not appear in artillery tab.

I am a huge fan of Paper Tiger.'s campaigns. I would be over the moon if he came back.

Mmmm intriguing, I cannot believe hanging on to hear about the release of F&R is about to be replaced with hanging on for some info on CM3 .
P.S. if it anything like the change from CM1 -> CM2 it is going to be mind blowing!!
I like the word 'quite' in Steve's answer!

This is good to know! Thanks!
On the negativ side is, that now I have to scan the whole forum 24X7 for the words "very" from elvis....in a short frequence...
Don't scan for very, scan for very very.
Or perhaps very, very?

I have been having great trouble finding sound mods that will work on my Mac (MacBook Air M1). I have downloaded several that are marked as for Mac, but not had success so far. Often wither the sounds do play, or play with delay, particularly machine-gun sounds (perhaps file size too much for computer to handle?).
So I was wondering whether any Mac players out there can recommend a sound mod (particularly if you have lower-end graphic cards/playing with native graphics).
Here's hoping that there are some that work!

Impressive! Lots in there. Hopefully, if confirmed, BFC will be able to make some changes either with Steam release or next update.

As an FYI, Slitherine is setting up a special server just for CM due to the file sizes. After we get the system up and running internally, we'll need you Cold War players to hammer on it to see how it goes. Honestly, nobody knows! We've never worked with their system before and they've never had a game with such massive save files. In theory everything should work (that's been checked already), but we all know how that can go

Hi Steve
As a Mac (m1) player, will this new feature be available to me?

Great to hear there is a lot of your scenarios in there Ben!

I am a huge fan of your scenarios Ben. Hopefully you have a few in the module.

Yup, agree!

My sense is that enjoyment can be gotten not for a simple win, but by managing to avoid a huge loss by better management of one's remaining forces. When a player thinks he's getting a sure win he will often get careless. Several times I have played games where my oppo got arrogant and proceeded to "rush" to the win and through carelessness and hubris, he ended up losing. Delicious times.
That sounds like me against the AI!
Delicious times, love it

Really enjoy your AARs, haven't watched your most recent ones as I haven't played the scenarios yet.

Would be cool to have some of the other small arms the Germans used that have not yet made an appearance (maybe some are already in CMRT module).

I replayed this one yesterday. What a fantastic scenario! Made so many mistakes, almost quit a few times as I lost yet another tank. The map is beautiful, the surprise is a great idea, the defence is really well placed and challenging, the AI moves were surprising and effective, as they were good quality troops that dealt it out rather than ran away. Lots of great moments. A super well placed scout team took apart the new platoon, with some help from an armoured car. 10 KIA. I ended up going completely OTT with a mortar strike and mass charge to deal with the last team member. Was down to the 105 at the end with no main gun ammo left. The sickening sound of a panzerfaust being launched and the inevitable knock out. Congratulations to the scenario designer! Now just need to make a film of it....
Commiserations to the families of all the GIs that fell. The commander was sacked the same evening, despite the German surrender.

The scenario is pretty tricky. I had lots of failed attempts........ the recoilless rifles caused havoc for me. I agree, not best scenario for including in demo (I didn’t know that). Compare and contrast to scenario in CMBN. Maybe reconsider that for next demo version?

Sure. Let's break tradition a bit. Let's pull back the curtain some and talk about the release process and I'll tell you where we are in that process. As things go along we get "Beta Builds" . These get piled onto a testers existing installation. Once we feel that everything that is going into the game is in the game an installer version is created as either a RC or FC version (release candidate and final candidate). I've seen anywhere from 1 to 5 of these. More commonly "a couple two tree" as we say in Philly. The only thing that stops these from being released is something show stopping. These are as much to test the installers as they are to test the game. Going back to CMSF1 and through every game I have seen this last phase take a day or 2 and I've seen it take a couple of weeks. Depends if any showstoppers are found.
That's the process. So, where are we in that process? Ben and I were asked by HQ the other day if we felt that the next Beta build would be enough to move onto an RC version. We both said yes. I believe that when the first FC/RC version for Rome to Victory was available to test is when I first said that we were "very" close with Rome to Victory. That was when I felt comfortable saying "very". So, if anyone feels like going back through those threads it'll give you an idea of how long it was from first FC/RC to release on that title.
Thanks for the info, I'm always interested in behind the scenes process. Also good to know we are nearly very close. Veryish close?

It would be great to introduce more variety in tree height. I find current uniform tree height a problem in immersion, e.g. top right hand group of trees in image.

Re: the Blog.. yeah.. been kinda busy, eh? Still you are right in saying that I need to finish up that Rifle Platoon series.
I have written abut hull down and how to get into hull down manually on my blog: Hull Down Post
Hi Bil
I'm always a bit suspicious of the targeting line text, as I think it measures to a fixed height above the ground? But it seems to work for you. How do you work out Hull down to buildings, as I am not sure the targeting line is a possibility (might be mistaken).
Loving the AAR

Pretty sure none of the soviet equipment. The US on the other hand should have access to some thermal sights from the start of the time frame on the M60 TTS and all the TOW launchers (I think), becoming more common later. So pre M1/M2 that should be a big advantage for the US to counter the latest soviet armor. I feel like you're going to be relying on your TOWs a lot.
Presumably the quality of the thermals would be significantly less than those in CMSF? I would expect that is modeled in game. Not sure how much of an improvement over passive IR (soviet/American) they would have?

One last remark: It is amazing how many desperate pleas for bringing back the shockwaves a search for this word brings up.
Just. Saying.
Best regards,
ThommAgree, I miss the shockwaves too!

Super happy to have a Bil AAR to indulge in!
I also happen to have some time off in April and May, so hopefully will be released as planned!
Also great that effectively two time periods are included! Will be really interesting to see how things change.
Not sure how thermals evolve/are introduced on both sides over the period, would imagine that will have a significant impact (I guess there will be multiple major changes taking place over that period). Looking forward to learning a whole lot of new things, and seeing them for myself when the game is released!

I love surprises

I am a bit lost with the timing for engine 5 release - will this release include engine 5? Anything you can say about what it is in it.
Oh, and I will be preordering!
CM Cold War with OSX M1 Macs?
in Combat Mission Cold War

I'm running it on a Mac book Air M1, base configuration. Runs OK at lower details. CMCW has bigger maps, so detail suffers on them. Other titles with smaller maps are better.
