  1. OK, I've done a lot of stupid things playing Combat Mission, but this one takes the cake: Playing a great PBEM game in which I was doing really well. I only had two tanks. A pair of Stugs and I moved both of them up to take out one of my enemies' Shermans. Moved my first one right up, found his Sherman and POW! up goes his Sherman in flames. Drunk on my victory I move my second Stug up to look for another Sherman he has poking around and BAM! right into my own minefield. My Stug is completely destroyed. That has to be the stupidest thing I've done in Combat Mission I think, but no, its not over. My first tank, the one that took out the Sherman has also, just barely, entered the minefield. So I delicately back up and KABOOM! another mine goes off destroying the tank. And that's it. Both my Stugs I destroyed myself in my own minefield. That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever done in Combat Mission. Anyone else willing to share and help me reduce my shame?
  2. In the spirit of the first post in this thread, Japan's new "Top Gun 2" themed F-15 fighters. Almost totally unrelated to the topic I might add: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/japan-unveils-top-gun-2-themed-maverick-f-15-eagle
  3. Good question. I suppose HIMARS comes in ballistically. I wonder how fast?
  4. Very interesting. I’ve always imagined a wall of propaganda keeping that info out of the hands of the Russian people. Not so easy anymore I suppose. I wish that NATO or even Ukraine could/would broadcast videos to the Russian people to see the seeds of doubt.

  7. The Kremlin has historically had a vast, vast ability to ignore humanitarian disaster in their own country.
  8. It needs a sound device. If you don't have one, sometimes that causes the game to crash like that.
  9. At least, @Billy Ringo we are not seeing a lot of 'well actually' comments. Well actually, that may not be true...
  10. Russia can sabre rattle all they want, but there is NO WAY they are going to do anything to escalate or risk getting NATO involved. Heck, they can't even handle Ukraine. In the words of the 3 Stooges, NATO would "murderize" them. I'm sure I missed it already, but how will Boris Johnson resigning affect support for Ukraine. Can someone linky it for me?
  11. Is it just me or does it seem that Ukraine is targeting more and more ammo dumps?
  12. Since we are almost 1000 pages in, I was wondering if a few guys could post some links to previous posts in this thread that are: The most important/informative The most predictive of what would or did happen Those of strategic importance I ask because some folks have recently joined us here and may need to do some catching up. 1000 pages is A LOT of catching up to do. Please upvote if this would be useful to you. Thanks a bunch! Probus
  13. I just wish it was for a happier subject Bill.
  14. Thanks @G.I. Joe. I thought something looked fishy.
  15. Can anyone validate the claims of this You Tube video. I've not ever seen an air-to-air shoot down with guns before. I think something is out of place because the plane shot down looks like it has dual tails.
  16. I'm beginning to believe that Ukraine has only been armed with defensive weapons. They don't have the force type to effectively launch large counter attacks that can take heavily defended areas. Does anyone think this will change (or hopefully is not true)?
  17. Like @Thewood1 I have an ASUS laptop, ZM16 with an i7-11800H but only a 3050Ti graphics processor. CM works just fine on it also. Unfortunately I don't know the AMD CPUs like I should but like they say, a fast CPU plus a decent amount of memory and you're all set.
  18. I have an i7-12700K with a GTX-3070 and it runs at 4K with max settings very smoothly. I couldn't ask for better. Don't think it is using many cores. I can load up two CM games simultaneously and not notice the difference. Same on an i7-11700K with a GTX-3060. I've also tested it on an i9-9900K and it works great on it also.
  19. RAM seems to be pretty important. I think it can cause errors in savegames if you have a large game.
  20. Steve, I think you are being sarcastic so prolly ignore what I'm about to say... RANT BEGINS: Otherwise... this is pure history revisionism by WOKE elements of our society. We may not like this history (whether we are leftwing or rightwing) but by your reasoning we should knock down/deface practically every monument erected over our civilization's history. Why, because practically every person who has lived until very recently has been some sort of racist. (and many still alive are some sort of racist, just misinformed/unenlightened, but may still be good people). You can't go around defacing historical sites because you disagree with their politics. That's happened throughout history and is disgusting. We would have no history if you burned every temple or book, knocked down every statue because you don't agree with some segment of that belief. And as for the USA (or any country) naming a ship or a base after a US historical figure, it can't. Why? Because by your reasoning, none of them are perfect by today's standards. :RANT ENDS This thread is really not the place to discuss this anyway. If you disagree with me Steve, I would be glad to discuss this using your PM system. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you are trying to say.
  21. This may be a bit naughty, but I think Ukraine should strike Moskow during the parade. Not a serious strike. Just enough to get the air raid sirens going. I can't figure out if Putin wants to go all in or cut his losses.
