All my CM Family games that I have played in PBEM+tournaments still have really old games showing up on my list of "Games in Progress".  When I or someone on the forums asked about this a long time ago it was stated these entries would hang around for a while but eventually disappear.  Not happening.  And when I try to delete them, they just come back.

I am attaching a screen shot from CMSF2 as an example (shows three beta tournament games plus two others recently completed, but one of those now >40 days since complete).  Anything you can do with Slitherine/Matrix about this?  I imagine this affects all players, no?

    Ditto.

The comments people had were interesting. For example:

"I wonder if this accounts for the growth of the gaming population. Are there actually less people interested in strategy now? Or is it just a smaller percentage of the whole because the whole has grown?"

"I wonder if they took into account was age. A lot of people who used to play the long winded strategy game just don't have the time anymore as adults with kids and a job and responsibility."

"I'd love to still have time for those games, but I rarely get more than one uninterrupted hour in a day if that..."

    • My own thought is that the strategy games being produced in the last decade or longer are not that compelling, and also feature much less attractive graphics.  But then, one could label the successful GTA series as strategy games.

Yeah, I think COVID started changing the demographics and a lot of non-gamers started playing games increasing the total amount of gamers.

Offensive real-time cyberwar is a really interesting concept, but I’m not sure how close that is. You’ll basically need to build a general purpose automated attacker, think HackGPT or something. You won’t have anybody in a trench or AFV who knowns nmap from ssh from vim, so it needs to be completely automated and basically have a natural language interface in which to communicate with its masters in- hey I broke into this drone, what do you want me to do with it?

So what are folk's opinions about lumping the Russian Federation's disinformation campaigns into cyber warfare?  I only mention it because most news is consumed over the interwebs and not by TV/Newspapers anymore.

  4. Does this work in Combat Mission:

Windows 10 gives you a fast way to find your mouse pointer by circling it when you hit the CTRL key. Here’s how to set it up:

    1. In the Search  box on your task bar, type mouse, and select Mouse settings from the list of results.

    2. Once you're in Mouse settings, select Additional mouse options from the links on the right side of the page.

    3. In Mouse Properties, on the Pointer Options tab, at the bottom, select Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key, and then select OK.

    4. To see it in action, press the CTRL key.

Clearly the best scenario for Putin is a Trump administration.  It's certainly imperfect, but as we've just seen the US' aid packages (not just military) are critical to Ukraine's war effort.  Given how absolutely terribly bad the war is going for Russia, any improvement is better than none.

Trump is a loose cannon that can't keep his mouth shut, that's for sure.  But putting on my magic thinking cap, I'll bet dollars to donuts that if Trump gets elected he will do a 180 on support for Ukraine.  He is only against the war right now I'll bet because the current administration is for supporting Ukraine and it gives him talking points.  If Biden were to have been more isolationist, Trump would have lambasted him for it. But that's politics.

War, unfortunately, is big business and Trump, if nothing else, is a businessman.  Now that NATO is starting to pull their own weight, as you say, he'll take credit for that too.

  6. I had a tank destroyer aimed perfectly at a Sherman.  The Sherman fired and the round ricocheted off my front armor.  Then something funny happened. My TD turned to show the Sherman its side, took a penetrating round to the side, then turned back?!?  I wonder what it was thinking?  Maybe it does something random under certain circumstances like panic or broken?  Or is it an AI glitch of some kind?

  7. Has the enemy unit surrendered? The game will let you put a target line on them but your unit will not fire small arms at them.  You can tell if the unit has surrendered if the pixeltroopen have their hands up.

This is probably not your problem, but this happens to me a lot so I thought I'd mention it.

I think the longer term strategy has to be to offset capacity issues by creating a military industrial base for Ukraine itself.

@The_Capt We can't help them build an industrial base until after the war is over, right?  Anything that is built in Ukraine is open game for the Russians, whereas aid from the West is off limits (for now).

  9. I'm beginning to believe that the slowness of the West's response to Ukrainian needs must be hugely encouraging to Putin and his gang.  You guys have probably hashed this out already and I missed it.  I really hope support for Ukraine does not wain again.  Are most of you still in the camp that Ukraine can win militarily?
