  1. Anyone fancy playing this PBEM? I've not seen the set up as I like to play blind. Will play either side. I use H2HH, dropbox and iron skill level. Mail me at csgowland-pbem@yahoo.co.uk if you're interested. Cheers.
  2. Good looking map and the battle sounds great. Just one thing.....I'd lose the haystacks. They look a bit strange in what appears to be a ploughed field.
  3. Hilarious, John! I bet the donkey's thinking ....'now, if only I could reach that trigger'.......
  4. How tight? Same as the fausts, about 30 metres?
  5. Hmmm, interesting pics, Sergei. I'm glad the donkey contraption is not represented in the game. I wouldn't fancy my chances of getting that thing within 30 metres of a Sherman........
  6. [quote=Baneman; Hilts, I think it helped a lot that the Stuart was buttoned - I've also lost guys to omniscient tanks, but crawling is the best way to surprise them.
  7. Thanks for the info, Baneman. That clarifies everything. Cheers mate!
  8. At the start of a GT I paused some carriers for 15 secs then gave them a movement order. I also gave the troops in the carriers a movement order expecting them to dismount whilst the carriers were paused. Needless to say they just sat there like dummies until the 15 secs had elapsed then were driven away still inside the carriers! Is that another little option that's been removed in CMBN or didn't I pause long enough?
  9. Anyone know the effectiveness of a rifle AT grenade as carried by US paras? I mean has anyone taken out a tank with it or are they used mainly against lorries and/or halftracks?
  10. Yes, I agree with you. Huzzar is a great battle and in my top five. I played as the Germans and also achieved a major victory in PBEM. So clearly both results are possible with the right tactics, which is precisely what we want from a scenario. My compliments to the designer!
  11. Thanks Baneman, an excellent example of something that I was beginning to think was impossible in this game. I'm pretty confident that if I tried that the Stuart would have cranked it's turret around and wiped out my men but I will continue persevering regardless. Cheers!
  12. Good thinking...will try that. I didn't realise that a circular arc was possible. Always thought it was one 180 deg or the other! Whilst we're on can I assume that said panzerfaust operative can fire whilst prone?
  13. Sound advice. Will try that. The only trick now is to get within 30metres of a tank! It does sound unnervingly close. I don't know why but I always assumed the range to be about 100metres.
  14. Right thanks. I didn't realise that the range was only 30metres! So let's say said tank is 27 metres away from a squad with a panzerfaust. Is it best to order direct fire, a cover arc or are they supposed to fire the panzerfaust automatically?
  15. Hi all, Has anybody had any success with panzerfausts? I mean the one's that are issued to German infantry squads. I have had no success at all. I can't even remember my men ever firing one despite having had tanks within a 50metre range. I have tried issuing direct fire orders, fire arcs and no orders at all but my squads seem very reluctant to use them. In fact I have had more instances of squads firing small arms at tanks, even when buttoned up. Can anyone remember actually destoying a tank and if so what the hell did you do?
  16. Yes Noob, precisely. I thought it must have been named after Herman Goering perhaps. Oh God, there's one called "Sticking it Out" as well, is there? I can almost hear Sid James laughing in the background!:
  17. Hmmm.......... I wish they'd given it a different name! lol
  18. Well, the ATG in the video is not concealed and has been set up on dry ground. I'm not convinced it would be so easily identified firing from concealment in possiblly damp wood undergrowth, even if it did have a loud bang. From my experience tank commanders in CMBN seem to have bionic eyes and it doesn't make that much difference if they are buttoned up either. The problem seems to be that as soon as anything opens fire like Erwin has described they immediately zero in on it. I have had troops crawling in a wood that have been spotted by enemy tanks! You are very lucky in this game if you can take out more than one tank with an ATG. Something should be done about it, if possible.
  19. .....Good point. It would be interesting to know what would have happened if "Congress and the American people" had voted for a declaration of war on Germany during the course of the Battle of Britain. On that basis it's questionable whether Hitler would have invaved Russia at all!
  20. ......But FDR did allow Britain to fight alone, for 18 months from June '40 to Dec '41 and it is difficult to imagine how much more likely it could look that we would lose our homeland at that time. We were on our knees after Dunkirk! It would have done no good whatsoever for FDR to wait until we were invaded before declaring war on Germany because without Britain as a base the Germans would have had control of the Atlantic and landings in North Africa and Normandy would have been impossible.....
  21. I had my credit card stolen last month. I haven't reported it because whoever took it is spending less than my wife!
  22. I am curious to know what the American opinion is on whether the US would have entered World War 2 on a combat basis if there had not been an attack on Pearl Harbour?
  23. Are we saying then that there is nothing to be done about it until the mortar runs out of ammunition in about 60GT's time? You would have thought that if the mortar battery had not heard from the spotter that requested the fire say within five minutes that they would cease fire themselves.
  24. Is it a bug then? I'm already running 1.10
  25. Hi all! Here's the situation. Three man FO team calls down an off map mortar strike. Next game turn two of them are incapacitated in an enemy mortar attack. The access to the friendly planned off map mortar attack is now denied to the one remaining FO (as well as everyone else) despite him having a radio. It has now reached the spotting round stage and it seems that there is nothing I can do to adjust or cease fire. Why is this as I am now watching my mortar ammo supply dwindle with every GT that passes? If the guy has the radio why can't he just either spot correctly and let the strike begin or call it off? Cheers...
