  1. Hmmm, I'd like to see him do that in CMBN! From my experience if I open fire on a tank I usually get a shot back within about two seconds, even if I'm hiding in trees.....
  2. Sounds good....... Are you saying then that if used in the vicinity of infantry it is likely to cause casualties?
  3. Cheers!........White Paint may have been more useful!
  4. Please don't tell me it stands for White Paint lol
  5. I've got a Sherman tank in one of my battles, which has the usual supply of 75mm HE and AP rounds but it also carries 6 rounds of 75mm WP. Anyone know what it is? I do hope it's something good because I'm up against a Mark VI and I'm down to my last Sherman!
  6. What I would suggest is make the face command for guys outside a building in the action spot next to the wall do something sensible too. If you give them a face command down the street on the left they then shift, along the wall, to the left and have two or three guys peak around the corner. Facing down the street. Same for a face command into the street on the right side - they shift right and two or three guys peak around the other corner. Now if you split your AT team off the squad they can be given the face command and now your two man AT team are peaking around the corner. Woe to any tank that comes by:)
  7. Agree +1 .......It's possible to drive a tank to corner, peek around and fire down a street, why can't we do it with a two man schreck team or a sniper?
  8. Firstly, thanks to all who offered tips and advice. I don't know if AT weapons were fired from buildings or not but I would like to bet that alot were as desperate times usually call for desperate measures. What I do know is that in my opinion urban warfare is not as much fun or as realistic in BN as it was in AK/BB due mainly to the inability to fire AT weapons from buildings. I don't think it has made the game more realistic because it seems evident that one or two gamey tactics have to be employed to get around the problem. Anyway, here's the situation then. I have a squad of five men in a street, one of whom has a pzfaust on his back. Directly around the corner I know there is a Sherman facing away down the street. I am unable to say whether he is buttoned up or not due to smoke (not that it makes that much difference). I want to try and get a shot off with the pzfaust up the tanks rear. We all know that I can't simply move to the corner of the building to shoot so it's going to involve running out into the middle of the road and trying to get a shot off before the tank rotates it's turret and blows my squad to oblivion. The question is what movement order to give? Crawl, hunt, run? Do I need to issue a target arc? Do I need to pause and then run back and will my PF soldier get his weapon ready and fired before the tank fires or will they just fire small arms as has happened previously? Cheers.
  9. Has anyone got any tactics for infantry combat against tanks in a city? I am playing a QB as the Germans fighting for control of a city. I hold most of the victory area with my infantry most of which have a panzerfaust in the squad but I am helpless against my oppos tanks who seem to be able to roam at will with impunity, even without infantry support, as I cannot fire my AT weapons from buildings. There is very little cover outside of the buildings and most of the walls are high. I thought it was supposed to be a nightmare for unsupported tanks to be caught in an urban environment but it seems to me to be the other way round! I can't even order my AT teams to position themselves at a corner of a building and peek round. They either run into the middle of the street and go prone or they face the middle of the house wall like cretins. I even tried waiting for a tank to pass then running into the road to try and get a shot off up it's arse but the spotting even of buttoned up tanks is so bloody good in this game that the tank rotated it's turret and fired before I even got my shot off! If anyone's got any ideas I'd like to hear 'em, but make it snappy as I'm not sure I can hold out much longer! Cheers.
  10. Well, I tried it. The Stuart moved into position and paused for 10 seconds before reversing. During this time the green crew got one shot off which achieved a rear upper hull penetration but without any apparent effect. As the Stuart was reversing the Panther was already starting to turn. I wonder if my oppo is reading this. lol
  11. "A Bridge Too Far" by Cornelius Ryan has all your requirements.
  12. Before I risk everything and try it does anyone know if it's probable or even possible for a Stuart to take out a Panther from the rear at a range of 360 metres?
  13. Don't like it. Way too fast and furious. The turn based game system is the best thing about Combat Mission for me. It's the only game i'll play, these days.
  14. Excellent...... I didn't know about CM wiki. Cheers mate!
  15. Can engineers neutralise a known ap minefield with a demo charge, as in CM1 or are they able to just mark the minefield? Once a minefield is identified can infantry pass through it without danger? Thanks.
  16. Yes, sorry I did mean Company HQ. Just out of interest, if a platoon HQ is out of command from his Co HQ does that mean that all squads in the platoon are out of command also, even if they are within LOS of the platoon HQ?
  17. Yes, the two squads belong to the same platoon. It's an independent platoon with no divisional HQ.
  18. Neither the squad nor the HQ were hiding. There was no rough/broken terrain at base of trees simply grass and flowers. There was a LOS from squad to HQ. However when both units advanced out of the trees the squad was back in command!
  19. Can anyone explain this? I'm playing a QB H2H. I have an independent HQ (veteran, -2 leader rating, status +1 OK) in some sparse trees 15metres away is a squad (regular, +1 rested) which appears to be out of command. I have the red cross and no visual or sight icon evident. The second squad, 83metres away from the same HQ has a green cross and a visual icon and appears to be in command.........
  20. I've had so called prisoners open fire on me as well. They're a damned nuisance. I have issued orders to my men to shoot all prisoners on sight!
  21. Milk? I assumed it was a latrine bucket......
  22. I have to commend the design guys at Battlefront for the tremendous detail on all the vehicles in CMBN. I like the way they look and move, the way the suspension works when they stop and I've just noticed that one of my Panthers even has a bucket hanging on the back of it between the exhausts. How cool is that?
  23. It was 283 metres from HQ to trees. When I toggle trees full on there is a line of trees along a road between the HQ and the clump of trees. Actually, when I see it with trees at full toggle (I usually plot my moves with trees at half toggle) I am amazed that the HQ could see the clump at all! I suppose this would make spotting difficult. Do you think that's why the spotting rounds were all over the place and the mortar refused to fire? Sorry, no saved game.
  24. Hi all, Has anyone got a logical explanation for this or is it a bug? There was a small isolated clump of trees in which I suspected there were some enemy troops. My HQ unit had direct LOS to the trees. The mortar unit was about twenty yards away from the HQ and in full C&C. Both units were regular and the HQ had a +1 leader rating. Neither were under fire nor even observed. I issued the indirect fire order and waited the four minutes. The first spotting round landed right on target. Next GT I waited in excited anticipation for the bombardment to begin. I was surprised to see another spotting round fired which landed about 200 yards beyond the target! The third round landed about two hundred yards to the left of the target. I let this go on for about four GT's with spotting rounds well frankly landing all over the place. Eventually after wasting 8 rounds I had to cancel the mission and move the mortar to direct fire on the wood, which was carried out with great success......
