  1. The best user made campaign is the Panzer-Lehr campaign by Mr. X imo. I just cant remember the name right now. Something with bloody. Definately has the best looking maps of any user made campaign so far. A Bloody Ride, thats the one
  2. In the moment I'm still mostly doing research, flowcharts, polishing the main map etc. I have pretty good source material on the 12th SS, but not so much for the Brits and Canadians. So any input of sources would be highly appreciated. Especially as to what Allied units were in action or available on June 7 until let's say June 9th. I seriously doubt the regimental Kampfgruppe Meyer had any chance of breaking through to the beaches, but I'd somewhat like to include this as a (possible) campaign path, so I need to know which Allied units would have stood in KG Meyer's way. I definately plan on recreating the historical actions and then go with fictional scenarios of KG Meye pushing further than they actually did (if the player's success allows it and if he chooses to do so).
  3. Wednesday, June 7th 1944, 1440hrs. Untersturmführer Porsch and his platoon of four tanks of 5th Company are just outside of the village of Franqueville, ready to reconnoiter ahead towards Authie, waiting for the rest of Kampfgruppe Meyer to arrive. A reinforced Grenadier batallion supported by the tanks of 5th Company will counter-attack and clear Authie of Canadian forces. Enemy strength unknown, but tanks and carriers have been spotted moving about from the regimental headquarters.
  4. Do FJ have two LMGs per squad like PGR, as well?
  5. Are the buffed MGs already included in this version? If so: Moar MGs!
  6. I plan on doing similiar, which is the reason why I made that map in the first place. Either a campaign or a series of scenarios. I would wish I could use the entire map for a scenario, because that would be the only way to accurately simulate the flanking fire from the high grounds at Saint-Contest, but that would just be too much for any computer to handle, i.e. I'm sure it wouldn't be possible to handle two German batallions, some Panzer companies, a Canadian batallion and a Canadian Sherman regiment. Instead I will likely go for splitting it in two scenarios. One with III./25 and 5./12 and 6./12 and 16./25 against A and C company of the North Novas and two squadrons of the Sherbrooke Fusiliers in Athie, and another scenario with II./25 and 7./12 against B company + whatever is left of the North Novas from the previous battle. Any following battle would be outside of the map boundaries (Villons-les-Buissons, Cambes, etc.) But if you still want to give it a try, here's some sources: http://www.canadianmilitaryhistory.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/milner-no-ambush-no-defeat-essays-in-honour-of-terry-copp-Sept-2012.pdf http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/nw-europe/37622-north-novas-buron-authie-3.html http://www.fireandfury.com/scenarios/bloodhonourauthie.pdf http://books.google.de/books?id=CELzdzkM2OkC&printsec=frontcover&hl=de#v=onepage&q&f=false (Chapter 1.1)
  7. I think it's like 7 minutes on my laptop. I usually Alt-Tab out and do something else, though.
  8. Also, what worries me is that AT teams don't priorizie movement over reloading. So they reload their weapon in plain sight of their target instead of moving as ordered first and then reload.
  9. Good source, would have given you the same one. It also mentions at least two air raid shelters in Buron, which I would portray as wooden shelter bunkers. Also, while this particular source claims to give a more balanced view of the events, it mostly only quotes the North Novas regimental history instead of other sources as well. Also, to me it seems to overstate the influence of the Ersatz-Bataillon of the 716. ID (as if the last remnants of a shattered static division would put up some significant fight) and the 21. PD (KG Rauch), although the flanking fire from the heights at Saint-Contest definately was significant in pinning the North Novas in their strung out positions and restrict movement. Anyways, the claim that two canadian infantry platoons managed to stop dead the advance of a SS batallion for 2 hours without any artillery support in Authie seams a little ridiculous if only a few lines before 2 Sherman companies are mentioned in the same village. As a sidenote, the 12th SS divisional history claims St.-Contest had to be taken against light opposition during the day, while the other source claims Saint-Contest wasn't taken by the Allies until much later. Haven't been able so far to find out which version is closer to reality. Also, the the article gives only very rough and definately too high numbers of German tanks involved.
  10. Im glad you could load it in the end. You can safely crop it to 3.5 x 3 km without losing anything essential, maybe that's enough for you to be able to load it? By the way, my laptop has a quadcore i5 2,5 Ghz, 4gb of RAM and some AMD video card with 2gb of VRAM (can't remember which one exactly ). It also runs a 64bit Win8. My assumption would be that lack of RAM causes CTDs with this map. Now I'm adding more flavour objects and compiling information on the actions on June 7th, The North Nova Scotia Highlanders and of course the 12th SS Division.
  11. They are files for the briefing graphics. If you just want to look at the map say in the editor you don't need them. To open them you can use Photoshop or Gimp. So only the .btt file is necessary (actually it includes some example briefing graphics). Too view in the editor just place the file in the standard scenarios folder, load it in the editor and select "3D-Preview" from the left hand side drop-down menu (it says "Mission" by default). In case you are not familiar with the editor user interface.
  12. http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/4864/details Here you go, I hope to see some nice scenarios or whatnot in the future Uploaded it to Repository as well, but that has to be reviewed first
  13. Screw it, I couldn't get an answer to which font to use, I'll just upload it.
  14. Finally, it's done. 3728m x 3984m, 232.068 Action Spots, and of those at least 10% were altered individually at least once (place a different terrain tile, add brushes, add some foliage, place elevation, etc.) I could probably keep working on it forever, fixing and changing little things here and there, but it since I don't have a real roadmap for it anymore I decided to call it finished. I will update it probably further in the future, adding mostly flavour objects (this version has relatively few) and little fixes, but I think sitting on it any longer is pointless. The way I see it, it is playable now - well maybe not playable per se, but usable for making smaller maps. As for performance, it runs perfectly in 3D on my machine, but that is entirely without units. I don't expect you can run it with any realistic amount of troops on it (at least a few battalions per side), but smaller portions of it should be just fine. Now, when I upload depends on when I can finish the TacMap template (the only thing left to do). And I can finish it as soon as someone tells me which font to use for it (see my other thread)
  15. Which font is used for the briefing graphics? The template files give you information on how to set up your brushes, but not what font and what settings to use for texts.
  16. Finally got the clips uploaded. The quality isn't too great unfortunately, but they should give you an impression on how the dimensions are with maybe a glimpse of the level of detail.
  17. Oh and yes, I have played AOTD, but I never got warm with it really. I guess people mostly love it because of the nostalgia. I actually got it after SHIII and well, it wasn't for me really. Has a nice printed Kriegsmarine grid map though
  18. Well the SHV campaign is just outrageously bad and I didn't ever actually play the stock version. Completely unrealistic, you get missions to sink 100.000 BRT in three months to advance and depending how much you sink the campaign appearently progresses differently. The SHIV campaign (which I haven't played in ages and in fact, don't even posses anymore) is more like SHIII, only that you get special missions to rescue pilots or bring spies to Japan or sneak into harbours from time to time. In III you get an PQ assigned, start in port, go there, sink ships (or not) and return. After that you can give awards to your crew, upgrade your boat (new radar, new guns, snorkels, etc.) and start a new patrol. To get back to the original topic: I have made two 30 second clips of me hovering around the map and am trying to upload them to Photobucket right now, but somehow it always seems to fail. Anyways, I'll post them here once I have succeded
  19. Well I play a heavily modded version (NYGM super mod, with inofficial .exe fixes and a different GUI) and it's great IMHO. Much better than SH5. The campaign is simple but realistic. You select a start year (or month), a flotilla and a home harbour and then get directed to specific grids in the Atlantic (or in the Mediterranian or Indian Ocean) and patrol there until your torpedoes or fuel run out. You are, free to do what you want though.
  20. Just FYI, this project is not dead, I just had to shift some time away from CM during the last month, a) had to study. A lot. Rediscovered my passion for Silent Hunter III Anyways I've continued working on it. Basically it's finished, but I still have to do some detailling which at this level becomes a little boring and repetetive, which is why it took me longer than expected. Things like making sure there are enough wall/bocage openings with fitting groundtiles beneath, or placing enough high grass tiles where appropriate.
  21. May I ask which map/scenario this is? Edit: Wow, I just noted the second Sherman wasn't phased by the shell, it was destroyed simply by the blast with 3 crewmembers immediately becoming casualties. How strong would an explosion of a Sherman with all its assets be? Like, comparable to what size of shell or whatever?
  22. Holy cow pie, I just figured out, the Germans actually DO have an entire company up there! At least 4 platoons of infantry and a whole bunch of support weapons. How am I supposed to storm a mountain with only 3 platoons of infantry with an actually stronger enemy force holding it? Granted, I do have enough explosives to blast this friggin Mt. Everest into orbit, but where's the fun in that? I mean the map is great and all, but that would be a task that should be given to a full batallion, or at least two companies of infantry.
  23. You are talking about the Kampfgruppe Engel campaign which features a mix of units mostly from 2nd Panzer-Division with a platoon of mechanized Waffen-SS Grenadiers later on My guess would be they werent normal Shermans but either Fireflies or M10s with the 17pdr. That or the shots came from an unfavourable angle (hitting the top armor e.g.)
  24. Well holy sh*t. Second mission feels like one company pittied against another company, only that one of these is dug in on a frickin' mountain. There goes your 3:1 ratio down the toilet 40 casualties so far, just defeated a German counter-attack which cost them dearly. I have only broken their first defensive position and my platoons are almost rendered combat ineffective. Realistically I guess the attack would be broken off at that point and resumed at a later time, but probably I'll have to do the rest with my artillery.
