  1. My Axis won one against Gronq's Allies. I won that one by the skin of my teeth on the very last turn.
  2. My Allies were defeated by Highlander's Axis, a while ago.
  3. I know I have sugested this on a number of threads but I really think it could be a possible solution to the almost unbreakable Axis defenses in Europe. An effective strategic warfare option, one that can destroy mmp's, cut rail and supply lines and possibly even reduce fuel supplies, that would give the Allies more options when invading France or Spain. Of course this runs the risk of the Germans conducting an effective strategic bombing and u-boat campaign against England, but that's what the beta-testers are there for, theyr'e underworked anyway, right? Additionaly I think the game is slanted towards the Axis. Still, it is the best WW2 game I have ever played.
  4. In my games Britan seems to allways fall way behind the other countries' technologies, and the USA has almost everything by mid 1943, and I even played a game where the Soviets never got motorized which was quite frustrating (big modern slow tanks). It's not a bad system but it could use some adjustments.
  5. No stress, take your time. The end-result is all that matters.
  6. Will there be any changes to the strategic warfare? Right now u-boats are mostly used to support naval operations, and strategic bombers are mostly used for recon. I would really like to see some useful strategic warfare options.
  7. I get this message almost every time I play an e-mail game as the Allies, have been ignoring it so far.
  8. To be honest, since I started playing e-mail games my intrest in playing against the AI lasts about 1 turn, then I turn it off and wait for the next e-mail. I'm not saying I play well against the AI because I don't, I just don't have any motivation anymore. As far as I'm concerned the game could be developed without an AI. Or there could be 2 versions one with and one without an AI, I would think the one without an AI would be easier to develop and test.
  9. I think the air units are too effective against ground units, I don't think air units should be able to completly wipe out ground units, disorganize, lower morale, un-entrench and damage, but not eliminate. Do the air attack and air defense values of ground units change at all throughout the game? As far as I can tell they don't.
  10. Another movement suggestion. It would be nice if ships could make some kind of an operational movement accross controlled sea areas. For example if no enemy ships are present US ships could move from the west coast to Australia in one move, or from the east coast to England. I'm certainly no historical expert as to how long it took for ships to go from A to B but it seems a bit slow as it is now.
  11. Doesn't sound like a game winner. I guess I stay with conventional warfare. Nuking people isn't very nice anyway.
  12. Have never seen nukes get used, are they automatic or do the Americans have to invest huge sums of money to get them? What effect do they have? Can they be used against Germany?
  13. I would like to thank my late father who served in the 3rd army, and in his words walked and crauled from Le Harve to Czechoslovakia, and my step-father who served in the Army Air Corps as a truck driver, but also fought in Bastogne after helping transport the 101st and getting trapped there. I have often visited the large memorial and museum at Bastogne, it is only a short drive from where I now live.
  14. I have hearts of Iron 1 and 2, Commander Europe at war, Making History, SC Global Conflict and SC The Great War, only play the last 2 at this time though, presently devoting about 2 hours per day to e-mail games (maximum time investment possible). I do intend to buy the computer version of the board game World In Flames which is presently under development by Matrix games.
  15. That one with the beginner playing in a tournament isn't that ridiculous, I have been playing SC since January, I only played a few games against the AI before jumping into the PBEMs and am playing in the fun challenge tournament, have lost all my games inside the tournament so far, but I have learned a lot (learning by loosing), although I'm starting to think I was born without the nessecary DNA information to win this game I am having a lot of fun with it, and I did win one outside of the tournament, I have also had a couple of vanishing opponents, those games were actually running quite well. I'm sure if you stick with it you will really enjoy this game, if you work long hours like I do you may end up ignoring your wife and kids just to get one more turn done before going to bed..........I think I'll go see what my wife has been up to lately, havn't seen her in a while.
  16. A sugestion for the next patch: I think operational movement costs should depend on the distance of the movement. I think there should be a minimum cost (loading unit and equipment onto train cars) but the cost should increase with the distance. This applies to Global Conflict as well.
  17. A suggestion for the next patch: I think operational movement costs should depend on the distance of the movement.
  18. I have read the suggestions, I like the off map strategic combat Idea for the subs, this could be expanded to include off map strategic bombing. Devoting Bombers, escorts, and interceptors to strategic operations would allow for some strategic bombing with results. I think this would be a very exciting addition to a great game system. there could be a lot of options, night bombing, attacking infrastructure, supply, industry. This all is more for ww2 than ww1, but on a smaller scale with less effects it could be used for ww1 as well.
  19. 47, but like Indiana Jones said, it's not the years it's the mileage, and after 12 years military and 18 years of construction work, I think it's time for a trade in.
  20. Thanks, I usualy take a nap or eat dinner while the AI is moving, I thought the messages were lost forever.
  21. A little chaos might be interesting, varible chance events: -Hitler assanated, German units unable to move or attack for 1 turn. -Paranoid Stalin purges again, all Soviet units loose 1 strength point. -Raving mad Führer fires Manstein, Manstein replaced by Kuchler -Hitler interferes in Jet research, level 5 aircraft not available till 1945 -Kitchen fire out of control, Ark Royal takes 5 points of damage. Historical or not I'm sure there could be many more, it would make each game different and unpredictable, and if it bothers anyone, it can of course be turned off. As far as I'm concerned they can be a little funny, a good laugh now and then is healthy, and with my playing record I could use a few smiles . Hey wow! I just noticed I've been promoted from junior member to member! Are there any financial benefits? Do I get my own office? Fireworks? Do I get to pick on the lowly junior members now?
  22. I use them for recon but usualy get them killed that way, don't recal ever inflicting any damage with one of them.
  23. A kamikazi option for the Japs would be interesting, but should be tied to the desperate wartime situation that they were in, I doubt they would have done it if they were winning the war.
