  1. As well as Arab-Israel wars. Now, after "Black sea", this setting doesn't look too hot.
  2. This is false dichotomy: you support Putin or you support Ukrainian government! If you note crimes of Ukrainian ultra right government, then you support invasion and destruction of independent state. No. Military threats don't excuse government, that committed many crimes against own people, prohibits opposition political parties and media. But this doesn't justify aggression against this country either. I hope that situation will deescalate.
  3. Sometimes I think that Haiduk is Kremlin's troll, who infiltrated to this forum for anti Ukrainian propaganda. He must add "but we will correct them in labour camps", but it would be too fat.
  4. I am not a big expert on U.S. internal politics, but I think that your rhetoric is somewhat ultra conservative, like right wing in Republican party. And outdated a bit, from 1970-s may be. It's ironic that Biden supports exact copies of his internal opponents. In addition, many Ukrainian nationalists think, that Russians are actually "Asiatic race". Ideals cost nothing nowadays. ( Russia is ruled by same right conservatives, to be fair. Best receipt for war - to let your local rightists become a government.
  5. Yes. Here is image from BMP-1 manual. "ЗКВ" - PL assistant. By the way, in this TO&E squad had 2 machine gunners with PKM. ("П" on the picture) Soviet "heavy squad". Well, in this manual is written that commander must observe the battlefield and find targets. For spotting also.
  6. IRL solution was to keep platoon leader assistant in BMP as commander of platoon BMPs while PL is dismounted. Here is the video. Since 21:15 is episode when PL orders PL assistant (who stays in BMP and controls all platoon BMPs) to suppress machine gun. 21:15
  7. The main problem shooting with open sights is to see the target. Large APC with head above, with sky at background is the best target.
  8. No, in all other paragraphs of the manual (166-170) is told to fire bursts. Semi-auto fire isn't mentioned.
  9. Correct. But shooting while moving was taught also. I read in one textbook that officer shouldn't allow soldiers to make short stops while attacking. I am not sure is it possible to model with CM engine, if it is possible, it also would better simulate Soviet infantry tactics.
  10. 1) In Soviet MR platoon was PL assistant who stayed in BMP/BTR as commander of platoon's vehicles. (I noted that in CMBS Ukrainian MR platoon is organised in this way, but why only Ukrainian?) 2) Soviet riflemen were taught to fire short bursts instead of single shots. It's less effective and ammo consuming, but it was in doctrine. May be this issues are worth to fix. I may post proofs if needed.
  11. This is right way. Mounted attack was conducted against weak enemy without strong AT defence. During usual attack against strong enemy infantry was moving behind tanks, BMPs stayed behind and moved by leaps from one position to another. (This is written in company/battalion manual 1982)
  12. IRL Soviet SMG gunners sometimes had 1-2 magazines, so in the game they are well equipped. In the Red army units were supplied from company and platoon ammo loads by foot carriers, soldiers carried small amount of ammunition. Later that ammo loads were replaced by APC. Mobility first.
  13. You shouldn't rush, proper line formation is slow, moving by leaps from one phase line to another. But I agree, air bursts should damage external elements more.
  14. Test shows, that Javeling doesn't work against cold target. They couldn't hit it until fired something inside. Interesting! I didn't expect this, I thought that it should work against any large metal target. Upd: They cut it from this video.
  15. So, if I didn't save manually, game is lost. Server just transmits current file, without saving previous. But why to delete local files? For disk space? I would better delete them manually. I like auto PBEM system, but risking long game doesn't worth it...
  16. Is there any way to restore previous file? On the disk are no files for this game... (Game crashed because I didn't have enough disk space.)
  17. I guess that sensor height is modelled lower than it should be. May be engine limitation. It is common problem for all ATGM vehicles, BRDMSs also can't see being in defilade, BMP ATGM can't be used while BMP with turret is defiladed.
  18. Special Forces and airborne troops also don't have radios. Cheap baofeng radios are affordable for civilian hunters and tourists, I think any unit should have them... (Though enemy can hear what they talk)
  19. Word "kulak" appeared long before communists. First known usage - 17th century. It is in 19th century vocabularies, sense was very negative. "Kulak" is people's word, not communist propaganda invention. There is Russian article, google translation must be readable: Кулак (крестьянин) — Википедия (wikipedia.org)
  20. In this book? I can't find. Used a text search, no such words in the preface. May be in other books? So, they were "kulaks" because they had to be beaten by fists? Ah, I don't know what to say. We are living in world of post-truth. Local semi-criminal boss was a poor victim, who was beaten by his peasants. )
  21. Well, yes. May be I am too serious as I live here. But really, how can you write a book about 1930s and don't give a definition of kulak? If I hadn't known, I would think that "kulak" is humilating nickname of a peasant. Of an Ukrainian peasant, in the context. How can you understand internal conflicts in Soviet Union without understanding sides of this conflict. Russian book market is dead, I can't give a link to good book about famine of 1930s unfortunately. Yes, I am criticizing world bestseller and can't give better source...
  22. And still "Bloodlands" is not a scientific work, it is popular work. Book for a mass reader. Without new facts, but with "interesting narative". Author is very loose to definitions. He calls Soviet peasants slaves. Writes that "kulaks" had to be "annihilated" like they had to be killed, not like they had to become ordinary farmers. He doesn't explain who was kulaks. Reader has an impression that kulak is just a peasant, not a local capitalist with opressed hired workers and a gang of thugs, who beat out debts. He says nothing about confrontation between poor peasants and kulaks. There was a long history of violence since 1920s, kulaks and poor farmers assaulted, killed each other. He tells that kulaks had to be destroyed as a class, then tells about famine. Like famine was planned by authorities to destroy kulaks. Is it academical work? It is not even a good textbook for students. If he is competent, why does he write this? To tell simple emotional story for mass reader? But okay. If this work correctly describes reality, why Ukrainians, cossacks didn't start a rebellion after German invasion? Why did they fight for Red army in mass? They were genocided, but heroically fought for those who killed them few years before, it is illogical. I can post a list of cossack cavalry divisions, formed in southern regions, if you want.
  23. This is a sort of historical "fast food". Easy to read, gives you feeling that you know the facts. Gives pleasant emotional explanation. But your brains become fat if you read this too much.
  24. Guys, "Bloodlands" is not a scientific research, it's a "popular" work. "Scientific" form is just for immersion. You know, like in "Fargo" TV series. "This is true story". But it is not. May be you in the west are new to such literature. Here in Russia are a lot of such "historical" books full of speculations and conspirology. Infamous Suvorov books, Fomenko's "New chronology" e.t.c. Real historians usually focus on small field and dig in. When you read book "about everything" that gives universal explanation, probably you read a fraud. Real historians publish dozens of articles about Soviet-Baltian relations of about Soviet repressions of 1937 for decades. "Europe between Hitler and Stalin", oh my god. I searched for his works in google scholar, does he write a book every 1-2 years? Really? Good scintific article takes more time to write. He must be genious.
