  1. I asked a while ago about releasing the online CW manual before the actual module release and it was said that it will be released. As it is still missing can we conclude that even the module is still quite far away from release? The manual for BN was released like this but I can't remember how much earlier... But I quess it was at least a week (or two) before?

  2. Area fire should do the job. But if you decide to do the job with large calibre guns then keep your infantry away from the wall. The shrapnel can cause lots of damage to your own troops. In the SF I always try to use only the IFV's to blast the walls rather than MBT's because they tend to inflict less casualties to your own side.

  3. Hi Guys,

I just annoyed a poor player from this forums because I simply did not have the time to allocate to PBEM games that are 60 second turns. Its just too much administration for such a small window of gameplay.

Is there a setting I can use to change turns up to five minutes or so. This way battles will be over in 12 turns instead of 60.

Thats 60 emails a game for each person (120 emails) if the game timer runs for an hour.

For every 60 seconds of play you spend probably 10 minutes taking the turn, another 5 minutes mucking around with emails and then days to wait for a reply depending on the player.

I am fairly busy and time is scarce. When I thought of PBEM I though, great a god send. An easy way to be efficient with time. No waiting for other people. Boy was I wrong.

I find that it is better to set aside an hour to play a game to conclusion than to waste countless hours administering 1 minute turns.

Am I missing a setting? Is their a five or even 10 minute setting?

I know this would mean sacrificing some flexability, but at least the game would be finished before christmas.

If you don't have it already you should start using the H2H Helper for PBEM games. Saves you countless of hours of unnecessary hassle with the emails.

  4. In that youtube clip there´s definitely a red glowing thing flying away from the gun barrel. I´d say it´s tracer ammo. But during day time? A massive tracer effect like seen in the default game graphics would show even on a black and white war footage. I have never seen anything like that. Just a big puff at the muzzle brake, and then......kaboom 1000 meters away.

The two first tracers are definitely big caliber shots as you can hear from the blast. And even normal rifle caliber tracer shots are easily visible during the day from the firers point of view. I once fired full 100 round belt full of tracers with one squeeze and they were very well visible! And after that lifted the mg from the barrel and burnt my hand pretty well :)

  5. I'll vote for East Front as the next title as well! I doubt it will happen but there's always hope! But whatever title it will be it will be a long journey until then... Commonwealth module has been under work for almost 8 months already and no sign of it's release in the (very) near future. After that will come Arnhem module and one extra module. If they take as long as the Commonwealth, the last module is expected second half of 2013. And as most likely the new title will take longer than the modules so expect it no earlier than 2014... I really do hope that I'm completely wrong, but the stats are on my side... And if the Bulge is the next title, then East Front can't be expected before 2017. Sad but true...

  6. IIRC they found that they suffered fewer casualties dropping men into snow drifts without chutes than with... until the Germans started painting hard surfaces to look like snow drifts...

I'm pretty sure that it's just a myth. I first heard that story in the army from my platoon leader and it's popped up every now and then but I have never found any solid proof of that. Do you have any reliable sources on that?

  7. No such paradrops were ever made in tactical situations. They were dropped in large formations (and usually scattered in a very large area) so their use in limited tactical situations would not be realistic. Some small scale commando raids were done, but never during the ongoing battle.

In SF I have played several scenarios/campaign battles where reinforcements appear to different areas in the map to portray chopper landings.

  8. Non-smoke-mortar armor you can actually see the hatch fly open (when appropriate) and an old fashioned infantry HC smoke grenade get tossed out. M10 TD smoke grenades gets lobbed out of the open turret by a crewmember. Smoke use has got adjusted again and again and again. A lot of debate, consensus and compromise happened before you got to see it in the game. Didn't it change a bit in the patch too? I'm losing track.

Will have to check that more closely then! I had several shermans when I tested it and watched it form a bit further.

  9. I think the smoke pattern looks quite the same as the modern tools have in CMSF. And I tried it with all the sherman models and every one of them have the same pattern. I'm pretty sure the Garman vehicles have the same. I doubt that the vehicles have launchers they should. As the game tries to model real life events as closely as possible I think that the different types of smoke launchers have not been modelled properly.

Big deal? No, but could be more realistic.

  10. As almost every tank is able to pop smoke, what kind of smoke launchers did for example shermans have? The smoke screen looks like it's been fired from this kind of device http://www.flickr.com/photos/36888991@N06/4241092554/

But the Shermans and I think other vehicles don't have that kind of smoke launchers modeled in the game so did they have some other kind of device to form the smoke in real life? Except than shooting smoke rounds, but the pop smoke command does not do that.

  11. the tank was bottom up so the gunner had no human target, only cold steel.

its a 250-1 only have a MG sorry for the mistake

i say dont wake a dragon when it sleep, back up slowly when u cant kill it.

If the tank was bottom up, then I think the tank was quite harmless at that point :)

  12. Saw very weird thing today. I'm playing the German campaign and in one battle i faced some t-55mv tanks and had very weird incident. My Leo 2a6 spotted the t-55mv and they both fired almost the same time. My tank round hit the t-55 first and then happened something that I have not ever seen before. The t-55 ammo turned about 30-45 degrees in it's flight path and continued on very weird flight path and missed my tanks several hundred meters. Was a small WTF moment!

A short while I though it to be somekind of a bug but then I started to wonder could it have been a stray atgm. I have never heard that T-55 are capable of firing AT missiles but after a quick research found that they in fact do and it must be the reason for this behaviour.

So the point of this thread is that I just gotta love the level of realism this game gives and keeps astonishing again and again!
