It seems that the ammo that is modeled is more like an APFSDS than one of those WW2 ammo. Maybe the same piece of code calculating the penetrating hits in the BN as in the SF?

Is it possible that the optics damage indicates the main gun optics? And it's not the only point where people inside a tank can see what happens in the outside. Do they shoot back after the optics are gone?

I think those tables of wall thickness against different types of ammo are pretty good ones. Would think that people tend to think about the covering factor by Hollywood movies where a thin table or a car door can withstand almost everything

Not sure if thats the corrent term but does anyone know any locations where you can read real battle reports from the battles in Normandy and elsewhere during the WW2? Those that were written by platoon or company commanders after the battles, real life AAR's?

I normally use Fast or Quick commands so that some troops are advancing and some are giving covering fire. Maybe even so that I use pause on some units while others advance and then they move forward when the first troops are done their movement and can give cowering fire.

Ah yes, this is the Swedish national day in commemoration of the birthday of Finnish Marshall Mannerheim, who was actually born on June 4th but it took two days to inform the Swedes. Skål!

Iron does not work that way. You can always issue commands to units with intact morale.
Ok, my bad. Never played iron so far but understood that every unit has to be under C2 or they are not visible in the map.

I kinda lost interest in these books when one novel mentioned Panzerfausts being used in 1941.
Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction. I once met a WW2 SS tank commander who ended up a Major in the Australian Tank Regiment and served in Centruions in Vietnam. A very nice guy he also liked doing sculptures and intricate wood carved furniture.
Yep, how about Finnish officer who served a while in the SS, won the highest award in Finnish Army (and in his company served a guy who would be president of Finland) and after the war moved to US where gained the rank of major in the special forces and was MIA in Vietnam and was portrayed by John Wayne in the movie Green Beret. Anyone quess who I'm talking about?

And why not to use the Iron difficulty level if you don't want to let the scouts wander too far? That way when they got out of contact you wont be able to issue commands to them until you get them back to C2

My own experiences with smoke greenades are that they are pretty "useless" (of course there's situations where they are useful) if several of them is not used at the same time. Single one wont obscure the vision in wide area from the enemys side and one wont' give cover for dispersed squad. This is especially true in the winter when the grenade just disappears in to the snow

Has anyone tracked individual soldiers how they move? Is it the leader always first one or is there any variation how they advance? Would be cool to see more accurate casualty list at the end of the battles like 3 officers, 8 nco's, 15 soldiers KIA

I have noticed quite high casualty rates among the unit leaders in SF and BN. Of course the troops are ment to be leaded not "followed" by it's leaders but it seems that in very often the first casualties is the squad leader or team leader. This seems to happen also with the artillery where squad loses one man, it feels that it's more often the leader than a grunt. I'm pretty sure that the casualty rates among the officers and nco's was higher than regular soldiers but how accurately it is portrayed in the game?

When I served in the infantry we used 82mm mortars with direct LOS and even with very little training they where easy to get them very accurate so I don't think they are too accurate in the game.

First impression was: This is horrible... But in a good way
Been playing the SF for a while and gotten used to very open terrain and mostly superior equipment against the red forces so the casualties have been very low. But BN is very different story and I like it! -
The training mission Sherman engine sound sounded very much the same as in SF. It's not that big deal as most sounds seem to be new, but still a bit annoying
