  1. Quite a big fuzz over one word :)

I have heard the word being used somewhere (probably in Rome as mentioned above) as a fancy way to say announce so I used it. Not a very familiar word to me so I wasn't aware of it's controversy. I quickly checked the word from the dictionary before using it and saw that it means announce. Didn't saw the other meanings at that point.

  2. Well, that last comment was written after a few portions of whiskey (Highland Park) and rhum (Zacapa Centenario 23yrs and Pyrat XO). I highly recommend to try any of them!

But the first line is still valid in my point of view but there's no sense in the second one. I got carried away by the image in my mind of that situation :)

And yes, of course people can play the game how they like, but I seldom go to so close that I'd see the unit insignia or the different camo schemes in the helmets. If I'd do that the games would take forever to play and I like a bit faster pace of the games. Of course some events have to be watched close up.

and yes, I do have some of those helmet mods, but it's not very convenient to keep changing the different unit mods to each game as most of the games I play are PBEM's so I'd be swapping them all the time.

And Mord, do you play the PBEM's in any ladder or just against people in the BFC forums? Would be nice to have a game against you someday!

  3. I also denounce your challenge, and the Italian inferiority it implies, no matter how historically accurate it may be!

as the word denounce has raised some questions, I'm not sure now what you mean with that comment... are you on my side or against me :) My intention was definitely not to make any "politically incorrect" announcement, but to see how many people have succeeded with the Italian side as it seems to be damn hard to play succesfully with them.

  4. I'm currently reading the D-Day and have not been too impressed about it. It covers well the subject but in my opinion on too broad scale. It's a good book but nowadays I like more first hand accounts of smaller scale. Like the scale the CM covers in the game.

And one thing that bugs me a bit but won't be a problem for you is that I read a translated book, not the original english text. And the translator is definitely not a historian as there's lots of dumb translations. Not Beevors fault but makes the reading annoying.

  5. I hereby denounce a challenge to everyone to post a PBEM result where they have won any game playing the Italian side! Axis side with Germans in the game is not counted. Only Italians are allowed.

If there's anyone victorius, please do not reveal any spoilers, just post the scenario and score. I doubt there won't be too many of these kind of encounters!

  6. The CMFI uniforms and helmets look great as is. Very impressive.

To be honest, I have not yet figured out this fetish about the helmets and unit insignia... It seems that most mods in CW are some kind of helmets or insignia of the different units.

Would be cool to see how these people play the game! 20x zoom to the nearest individual and they go, ooh aah, that helmet is so good that it's unreal! but the way the game models the spread pattern of the 50mm pak 150mm Heat is not tolerable! fix this or do somefink.

  7. Yep, the game looks very good out-of-the-box! BF has done a great job with it! But would be coold to see more variations of the camo schemes on tanks. Also not too many scenarios have been released yet even it's easier to create them.

After these obvious question would be why I don't make them myself. But there's an easy answer to that, I can't...

  8. There seems to be surprisingly few mods in the repository so far. How's that, are modders still too busy to play the game, are the models in the game so good that they don't need modding or is it harder to make the mods in the 2.0 engine?

I can be totally wrong but I remember that flow of mods was a bit faster when the BN was released?

  9. This fight actually is very interesting! As we all have been questioning the armor heavy troop selection it would actually be interesting to play several all armor vs all infantry type of game in semi urban / forest terrain and see if those real warfare tacticians are correct about the infantry vs armor fights. No doubt that in open terrain armor will always (if not backed up my massive amounts of at weapons) overrun infantry formations.

First example of this kind which comes to my mind is the Chechen wars where the Russians tried to invade Grosnyi mostly with armored units and got very badly beaten. Does anyone have other similar examples? Especially the events where armored formations were victorius.

  10. Does anyone has noticed the lack of the use of hand grenades on the allied side? I have not played too many games yet but it seems that US troops just wont throw any of them even in close quarter fighting. One occasion is going in a PBEM game where my Rangers and enemy infantry found each other quite close (under 30m). The Italians keep tossing their hand grenades, but my troops have not thrown single one yet even they do have them. Luckily the Italian ones have been thrown mostly over my guys and I've been able to mov them down with small arms fire, but the lack of grenades is a bit weird. Has anyone else noticed this? Have not had time to test this though so I might be totally wrong about it, but that's the impression I have had so far...

  11. You may be able to dominate the ground, but you're never going to winkle out every last enemy infantryman from the Victory Locations which pretty much means he's going to hold them.

But if the takes them first with the fast recon vehicles and won't let the enemy infantry into the victory areas at all. Definitely not an easy task though. And if the infantry get's into the VL's, then it will be very hard to flush them out as you said.
