  1. The outcome of WWI still shapes our world today. It was just as influential as WWII, perhaps more so since WWI led directly to WWII.
  2. Speak for yourself. I lived in the Philadelphia/Reading PA area for 25 years before returning to upstate NY. We get 2-3 times the snow  you do and we're pretty sick of it by now. Unfortunately, we have at least another month of it. Wish I was back in SEPA this time of year.
  3. I agree. The German invasion of Belgium was merely an excuse for the Brits to enter the war. At best, a neutral Belgium would only delay the Brits a little until they found a suitable incident. An interesting situation might be if the French were extremely successful against the Germans. Would the British hold back to avoid French supremacy reverting to their traditional balance of power approach or would their fear of the German navy cause them to jump on the band wagon?
  4. The ignorance of our leaders about American history as well as other topics is astounding if you pay attention to their gaffes. This would just be par for the course here in the US.
  5. I've seen the same thing. Makes no sense to defend an objective which is sure to fall; especially with a fairly expensive unit.
  6. The available game mechanics don't allow in-hex combat which is what most parachute drops amounted to. With 1 week turns there is plenty of time to drop, reform and attack a nearby objective. I don't see reducing their current capabilities as improving the simulation aspect unless you can also have in-hex combat.
  7. Not sure if this is the answer you are looking for but in your mod if the Ukraine is set up as I described the Ukrainian units do appear and the Axis player can build more if the Ukraine joins the Axis.
  8. It's not a screen saver function as my screensaver is disabled. The game does some other weird things in Win7. I am using the 64 bit ultimate version so that too may be a factor. I have done pbem with other games in the past and by snail-mail before the internet but not with SC. It comes down to a matter of spare time which is considerably less when kids enter the picture.
  9. There is a workaround you can try. Set up the Ukraine as a minor with it's capitol in Kiev. Just set up the one tile. The capital is controlled by the USSR as an occupied country. When the German player activates the Ukraine you can then use a territory script to create the country. Not all that elegant a solution but it does work in your mod.
  10. This happens to me from time to time on Win7. No real way to recover from it but what you can do is to use the task manager to try to get back to the map display and then save the game by hitting ALT-S. This will save your game for you and then you can restart it. Even if you cannot save it you can use the autosave file to recover the game as of the start of your last turn. Sometimes you have to play with the task manager and clicking on the small screen display you get while hovering over the icon to get the map display to come back. Usually all you can do is to enter one command before the screen freezes again so make it ALT-S.
  11. Actually, you don't really need the map. The units always have a blinking icon if they have not yet been moved. The map is a useful tool though to remind you of other units that you might want to move. By the way, your English is considerably better than most of the people here in the US sad to say.
  12. Something similar used to happen to me. After making the last move and then ending the turn the game would either freeze or crash. Hubert recommended I wipe out the previous installation and reinstall the game completely fresh. After I did this the problem never returned.
  13. I have a 22" wide screen and it looks great.
  14. Seems an entirely reasonable request. So long as these settings remain transparent to the opponent, I see no issues.
  15. While I have never seen negative totals I have seen negative amounts charged for reinforcing or transporting certain units. This usually seems to happen with HQ's and certain customized units. This results in the MMP total going up rather than down after an expenditure. This is also not consistent across all units of a certain type. Some HQs never go negative while others seem to increase in negative amounts the more they are involved in combat. Perhaps this is linked to some calculation using experience.
  16. Thanks Bill, that's what I thought since I could find no script which performed the function.
  17. When Vichy France is created and all other units are displaced, is this a function of the game engine or is this handled by a script? The reason I am asking is because I would like to use the editor to accomplish something similar elsewhere on the map. Thanks in advance, Will
  18. Has anyone ever played Avalon Hill's 1914? It was designed by Jim Dunnigan in the late 60's and it was definitely ahead of it's time. I spent many hours playing that and wished he had expanded it to cover the whole war.
  19. I just tried it myself and got two script errors. One in the partisan script and one in the loop script. I edited both scripts, found the errors, corrected them and successfully saved a new campaign end date of 1970. Whether these errors were already existing in the scripts or were generated during the verification process I don't know. The errors were at the end of the partisan script and very near the end of the Loop script. They were easy to spot since they involved too many }'s or corrupted entries. If you like, PM me with your email and I'll send you a copy of the corrected scripts.
  20. The Sudan is not linked to Egypt in the mod and I suspect that Egypt is still Egypt and not part of the greater entity of "Anglo-Egyptian Sudan" Haven't any time to look much further but I'll post when I have something to say.
  21. I disabled the script for the Ukraine long enough to get the Axis units out. When I re-enabled it the same events occurred. This time no Axis units were lost but the Axis still cannot trace any supply through the Ukraine. In my game I did not invade Poland so the only supply getting to the Axis troops now is coming from captured cities. Another interesting thing is the Sudan did not declare war on Germany or Italy even though Egypt did. I suspect the territory of the Sudan is still under it's original ownership. This was confirmed when I looked at the war map and saw it was identified as the "Italian Social Republic". By the way, the other changes and improvements are great. This mod is definitely more fun and challenging than the previous iterations.
  22. Maybe it is a function of time. Mine happened in the beginning of September 1941. I checked the production queue and none of the units which surrendered are scheduled to reappear; they all seem to be in the "dead pile".
  23. Was it your intent for all of the Axis forces currently in the Ukraine to surrender and disappear? The remaining units are now doomed due to lack of support (air, artillery and HQs are all gone) and minimal supply. Luckily, I did save the turn not too long ago and won't have to throw in the towel just yet. If this was not your intent it should be a relatively easy fix. Will
