  1. how hard on the PC are those blacked out/set elevation values - ive read a few times that a lot can slow it down and quite a large part of the map is flat to reflect this but id like some roll to the fields but dont want to bring anyones pc to ascreeching halt
  2. perfect advice - its your map - im doing a real life location with arial photos coming out of my ears but you still every now and again have to put in a bit of abstraction and imagination - the game is short of good historic/ahistoric scenarios - just build your map as you think it should be using the excellent advice provided already - the fields will be stripped of stones and the border walls made of these stones - i like the fence graphic better than the wall and i am woefully guilty of overusing fence as opposed to wall - in fact after reading this im going back into to change some fence to wall but nobody will tell you youre wrong
  3. looks nice - can the spires go any higher? i would say maybe one more level hire - as in the real pic
  4. Having looked at pages and pages of overhead photographs - it never occurred to me that everything in this section was part of the Ingouf farm - its massive!! Anyway almost all the 'detail' work has been completed here - from now southwards its pasture and fields with bocage borders - much easier to do, until i get to the outskirts of the town that is........... Uploaded with ImageShack.us Ingouf's lands with the irrigation canal:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us Map so far:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us Top end of irrigation canal and service barns of the Ingouf farm:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  5. MG? AFAIK Wodin itll be market garden................ ahhhhh MG - i see what you did there!!
  6. outstanding - cmon man - there must be pics
  7. Fuser, If i want your HD grass and any other HD ground (mud, marsh etc) which of your fine works do i need to install - the add on packs and the grass? or is it all in grass?
  8. Youre right - the Allies came into the area from the north, battled across bridge 4 (the start of the map), and after a days fighting at close range ended up charging the Germans at bayonet point in the Ingouf Farm, forcing them to withdraw to the village at the foot of the railway lines and eventually withdraw over the railway and South into Carentan. Then reinforcements were called in to advance on the town itself - and yes youre right again, it was much bigger than i thought too!!! PS ignore the compass on the maps for now!!
  9. thanks for feedback - its bizarre - so far ive spent the money for the game (and worth ever penny) designing this map and looking at vehicles with an occassional dabble into the tutorial level, although i did spend an awful lot of time on the demo levels - incredible fun. Trying to do justice to the topography seen from the overhead maps is a little difficult and sometimes hard - i hope when its done it reflects the battle and people enjoy the map - its very rewarding
  10. Map has now reached the Eastern edge where the railway track comes on to the map - these are shots of the small village that the Germans fell back to from the main farm area before they were finally pushed back over the railway lines and the Allies advanced south into the town - a lot of paratroopers were killed in the claustrophobic orchard/walled passageways linking the village to the main roadway.... anyway...........:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  11. exactly - ive read a bit about the battle in researching the map - once the 'frontier' of the town at the crossroads end had been taken a full withdrawal due to lack of ammo was ordered and the germans disappeared over the ridge south of the town, returning the next day for the battle of bloddy gulch seen in the second part of BoB when the 2nd Arm Div turn up
  12. not at all - i dont know how far ill get into Carentan 'town centre' i was provisionally looking at the first 4 'rows' of estate but may go further with a VP flag at the statue thanks for pics
  13. thanks guys - lots of work done today on the east side of the map, the cafe, the small village and the high walls, looking to start the railway lines that will lead on into Carentan then build up the fields to the scene we're all familiar with at the crossroads
  14. Slow going this week, particularly as i want to get the high walled village near the railway lines right - it was very claustrophobic and scary down there:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us There are definite places on the map for which i can place real life exact locations for which i have good arial photographs - i will build these first and then create the interconnecting fields and roads - this is why the Ingouf Farm seems to be in the middle of nowhere - i need to get its perspective from bridge 4 right and then build the scenery between the two:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us And then just some particular hot spots on the map im proud of:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  15. quick question - in the designer there are some independant buildings that face n/s/e/w and some that face ne/se/sw/nw - how can i turn one of the small one story houses that faces n/s/e/w to face ne - ive tried control and LMB but this damages the facia - i just need to turn it through 45 degrees - any help always appreciated
  16. Whilst im nowhere near finishing the Carentan map, has there been a list or poll of historic battles/scenarios that people are interested in seeing recreated? looking for a bit of inspiration really......... Also, I would imagine there will be a clamouring for Pegasus Bridge if the CWF release doesnt already include one
  17. brilliant thanks for that on the houses - re above - so i cant place them as flavour objects as part of the map building process? no worries
  18. lol - is that a sigh of exasperation? - i just need the right hand side of that house - but seriously if you tell me how you did it ill gladly make my own havent seen fortifications on my scenario building screen - ill have a look when i can - thanks AKD PS - make me a train, i know you want to!!
  19. yeah im in need of a broken house, some sandbags and a tractor or two and a train
  20. thanks for reply - great, great work - look forward to their release
  21. Any chance of a broken house? smashed to bits - not rubble but half destroyed?
  22. i maybe mistaken but i think it does that already
  23. For broadsword - i used 3 'type 3' shelters and merged them together, i wanted to create some kind of covered courtyard entrance to the farm and this is the closest i could get, however the engine doesnt like it much and usually deletes one of the shelters:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us and the back of Ingouf Farm leading to the orchard and the cafe/village area before reaching the railway lines:- Uploaded with ImageShack.us
