If we do not remember history we are doomed to repeat it.

Ya but PBEM sucks... playing games over months isn't exactly... fun.
Auto pause every 60 seconds in RT is the way to go.
And you're wrong about the people who won't buy it because it doesn't have tcp-ip wego. There's quite large communities that still only play CMBB because CMSF doesn't have tcp-ip wego. (sure some it's because it's not WW2, but many it's because there wasn't a proper QB system and no tcp-ip wego)
I was in that group initially, especially after the disastrous release (which I'll say you guys certainly cleaned up well with all the patches), but I've learned to enjoy singleplayer RT. I can just pause when I need to.
Multiplayer on the other hand, with anything other than a company is more like work than fun. Actually reminds me of this time I stayed up 30 hours straight writing a paper in college only to have it auto-deleted from the harddrive literally seconds before I was going to put it on my flashdisk (computers would erase everything every morning at 8 am). Yep, those were the days.
In modern combat you can get away with it, since all the BLUFOR tanks are one-shot one kill, and the IFVs too in a lot of cases. Not so with WW2 where we'll have to zoom in to check angles on vehicles and hull down positions and mess around with AT guns getting positioned correctly etc. etc. etc.
You said it yourself, RT with auto-pause would not be anywhere near as hard to implement as wego w/replay. So put the damn thing in at some point please!
Sure, you might make your sales goal regardless, but the reviews of the game will suffer for it and you WILL lose customers. If you have both straight RT, RT with auto-pause, and wego pbem everyone's happy (yes replay is fun to watch everything from different angles but it's not essential if RT with auto-pause is in)
-
Mine have used them as well, but not nearly as often as I'd like... BMP could be 80 meters away and a whole platoon will take like a whole minute to even START to get out the thing. They miss a ridiculous amount of the time too. I could understand if these were WW2 panzerfausts, but they're not !
-
oh Wow pbem can last more than WW2 itself
And THAT'S why we need pausable RT .
Cursed be PBEM!
-
I hope you die a painful death.
-
I think you could increase sales with all the WEGO'ers climbing on board.
Definitely. I'm certain the people who still play CMBB/CMAK exclusively won't purchase CM:BfN unless there's some kind of "wego-like" mode.
Nice sig btw. You trying to say something ?
-
Sorry I just couldn't handle the "voice acting" lol... lasted 15 seconds.
Anyways, we'd all be better off it all the world's alcoholics were potheads.
-
Sorry but all this talk of tank riders made me think of this... so I was required to post it as it's such a great scene.
-
Aye but I get the impression this guy's talking about a QB.
-
The campaigns seem to be getting harder with each new module, I'm finding some of the NATO missions a frustrating chore rather than enjoyable gaming.
NO NO NO. THE HARDER THE BETTER I SAY!!!
I hate it so much when games are easy or even only moderately difficult. I recall the days of Raven Shield (actually replaying it now) where I would have to reformulate my plan about 10 times and maybe replay the action phase 30 times before I got through it without losing a team member... course I always played on the hardest difficulty.
-
Ya but I want that one that's as fast as a mortar and gets 60 rounds .
-
Auto-pause every 60 seconds with control DURING the 60 seconds would be THE solution for me. Superior to wego. Seeing as it's far less of a hassle to implement than wego tcp-ip apparently I def hope it gets in soon after release. Possibly adding different time options for the auto pauses would be a nice touch too.
WEGO with replay would still be nice though... it's always fun to watch over and over your tank blowing something up . But if the above is implemented I could easily wait 5+ years for it lol.
-
Sorry, but do you have any source for that ?
Sounds a bit strange...destoying 249 FW190 by raiding airfields in germany (behind enemy lines).
lol I was just trollin... surprised anyone believed any of that hahaha.
LRDG AFAIK only operated in North Africa. And Michael LRDG and SAS cooperated on the airfield raids in North Africa... though it was LRDG that started the whole thing. SAS joined in riding with them after their first mission by parachuting in was a total disaster.
-
Yes, but only slightly. You may not realize how frustrating it can get sometimes...
Michael
Now what exactly about me renaming a unit after characters in a movie means I'm getting my history from it ...
I'll rename an infantry squad "The 300" if I damn well please!
-
I want LRDG in the game. Little known fact but they were actually largely responsible for the complete destruction of the Luftwaffe by raiding airfields deep in Germany itself. Paddy Mayne personally destroyed 249 FW190s in the Rhineland. Who knows how many he blew up in other parts of the Reich.
Hell throw in the OSS and SAS.
Maybe Delta Force too (you know... an "early version" with just silencers, no NVGs or thermals)
-
+1 RT with auto pause! I would, however, like these other guys, like to be able to control my units during the 60 seconds. 1-1 brings with it a lot of things you gotta keep an eye on if you don't want your units to die over some silly glitch/AI reaction.
-
Lol "people posing as grogs who get their history solely from war movies" that's going a bit far. I'm guessing it's in jest though .
-
Hmmm... never noticed that. So you're saying if I area attack with a flamethrower infantry unit one end of a decent sized forest... it'll eventually consume the entire thing? How long does that take? (I'm assuming it works the same in both CMBB and CMAK right?). Cause if so... yes I could see that being v. useful.

Where can I find this unit/what time period does it need to be?
-
I've commented on this many times already, but of course not everybody sees it The idea of RT with an enforced pause is exactly what the Compromise system is. Each player is prevented from making changes to Commands for 60 seconds, then there is an enforced pause of x amount of time (whereby x is defined by the guy setting up the game).
The Compromise system involves relatively little new code and (hopefully) not too much in the way of extra testing. But it still is a chunk of work and when you are already ruling out features based on minutes to implement (that's what happens when you have thousands of ideas floated!)... well... something that takes a significant amount of time to do will mean lots of little stuff not getting in.
Steve
Ya I never saw anything sorry . And whoah a little confused here, are you saying it's ALREADY in Normandy, or will possibly be added into it later?
-
Hmmm still doesn't seem worth it to me... an SMG or pioneer squad is way more flexible. The latter especially will obliterate any infantry unit in a building. (and the former will too if it's just facing a rifle squad).
-
Yes... and he deserved to. My favorite character probably. Badass NYC mofo running around with his BAR hipshooting krauts. Great stuff . Not to mention flanking that 20mm and killing its crew! If we can rename units in BfN I'm renaming a unit in his honor . I might rename a unit for suicide missions/distraction attacks Upham too... or maybe I'll wait till the Ostfront game where maybe we'll get penal units .
-
Ahhh nice to hear.
-
Was he in LOST? I stopped watching once it was obvious that the writers did not have a clear direction and were just throwing random stuff in until they could come up with an ending.
I was really pissed when I first watched SPR that Upham didn't die... when he could have easily saved the Jewish guy. Shoulda been shot for cowardice, lil bastard.
Also that A-10 vid... seen it before but it really is uncanny how much it sounds EXACTLY like Tom Hanks.
Command Delay. Love it? Hate it? Should it ever return.

What he said. Plus C&C in WW2 wasn't exactly what it is today so it makes sense.
