Personally, I love the whole series. It is like a smorgasbord, when you are feeling like fish I go to CMFI, when I feel like steak, I go to CMBN and when I feel like stroganoff, I go to CMRT. It is all good depending on my taste at the moment. Right now I've got PBEMs in all three....what I pig I am.
Thats how i feel lol though i rarely play CMRT i have beaten about half the scenarios as both german and russian, but otherwise havent really touched it.
which is ironic as it was the one i was most excited for. CMFI+GL is what i play the most i think it is my favorite CM family so far

I actually click more in CM setting up waypoints and commands more that GTOS... lol but i can see why looking at it might make you think it would be a "click fest" it looks like a RTS with really good graphics, but its a wargame in RT with a terrible UI and no good tutorials lol I have almost 40 hours in it and im still learning stuff, its a pretty fun and rewarding game, not as good as CM, but it offers some very rarely seen conflicts to fight in

70s-80s NATO/Warsaw PACT. Period.
this please

I got an SKS-Yugo. Great gun. Can't beat the price, ammo is cheap and its not picky about what you feed it.
To me the ultimate assault rifle would be a gun that takes the best features of an AK47 with modern modular furniture and used the 300 AAC Blackout round.
I did look at the SIG AR15 and was intrigued by its gas piston system, but decided on the Daniel Defense. You know what they say-once you buy one AR15, you'll eventually end up with 2 or 3 more so the SIG may be in my future. There is a master armorer who was in the military and Secret Service who teaches you how to build an AR15 near me so I may get some instruction from him. I can field strip all my guns, but in the end you don't know what you don't know and the AR is a platform where it pays to learn it well.
AK's and other Russian stuff you can abuse and it will still function.
i have a mosin

i know there are at least 2 winter scenarios... I cant recall
-
its hard to notice with all them panzerschrecks!
-
Yeah i feel like russia got shafted in the game =(

This is what Wikipedia had to say about it (yes, yes, I know "don't trust wikipedia" bla bla bla):
"The MP 41 was not introduced as a service weapon with the German Army, but saw limited use with some SS and police units. They were also exported to Germany's ally, Romania. The MP 41's production run was brief, as Erma filed a successful patent infringement lawsuit against Schmeisser's employer, Haenel."
Which is interesting since I didn't know that they did patent infringement lawsuits during the war :/
I just wish they'd implement the MP 41® and MP717® as there are plenty of evidence that it was used by german troops on the front lines even in the west.
I would still rather just see a mp41 lol Im sure they were used. I have read there only like 7,000 FG-42s made between both variants and there were around 26,000 mp41s made and if they were used by the SS shouldnt the SS in CMBN have some? Or did the SS stop using them?

^^^ = +1
Real time mouse click fest folk of course will love it.
I really dont understand this statement as you have the ability to pause and give order just like CM so there isnt really a "click fest"
-
Why is this not in CM games? Its not a big deal im just curious i know it was somewhat rare, but there were more of these made than both variants of the FG-42. Is it possible to see it in the future maybe?
-
Yes i see the game as being different enough that they arnt really at competition with each other. I really enjoy it im going to have to pic up some of the DLC summer operations as the winter maps are getting really depressing lol
-
I don't know how you guys play CM with an IPhone or Ipad ?...I will just stick with my PC/Laptop :-)
this i dont know how you do it... I will stick with my pc combat mission
-
no i figured it out.. for some reason avast saw them as a threat and quarantined them  AVG did this to me and thats why i got rid of it. Its strange though avast hast seen them as a threat since i installed it i wonder why it is now

So last time i played CMSF was 2-4 days ago and everything was fine. I started it up today went to play a scenario and noticed all my modules are gone! The scenarios are there, but it says im missing the module.... any advice?
-
BF stated that they may do scenario packs/campaign packs somewhere i would like to see this for CMFI
-
I hope to see aris skins for the Tanks they look too new lol I want my tanks to be dirty
-
I bought it quite a while ago. I never play it. Hate UI and real time. Graphics are nice but what is the point if you are missing all the action in different spots on map because you are too busy with the click fest?
I play CM in real time too I love it and dont miss much action
-
But hated for its popgun...
I read in the comments that the tank had the 6pdr on it instead of the 2pdr so it wasnt as much of a popgun
-
i have about 14 hours into it so far and its a decent game.. I honestly hate the way troops are commanded and i didnt notice any kind of tutorial. like what is the difference between the Assault and the Attack move command? but it is a good game especially for 7 bucks. I do however find the tank combat pretty intense with bits flying off the tank and treads falling off with the tank still trying to drive or the fuel tank getting hit and flaming fuel spews out of the tank lol
-
Hmm...
On that note: Are there any good maps of Finland/Finnish unit camos? Specifically looking at the Tali-Ihantala line... it's captured in one of my fave. war films by the same name (so many good tank scenes!) and the arms and equipment, as well as time period, are already covered by the game... In fact the 'stragglers' defence mission in the demo could almost be a reproduction of one of the scenes from the film...
I dont think so. I would love to see this covered by a CM game but i doubt it will ever happen. (i loved that movie too btw)

Artemis258,
Welcome aboard!
You are correct. Unlike, say, Panzer Elite and other sims, there is zero capability to a) get under the hood and create new vehicles. This is by design. BFC didn't want a situation in which players would have to minutely go through their games and agree upon weapon specs and performance before they could play, and it certainly wasn't going to ride herd on such an exercise. This has been true clear back to the first CM, CMx1's CMBO, just as there has never been a provision to allow the players to create vehicles. Players have been known to reskin vehicles to look like something else, though, but that in no way changed the way the game treated things. You can tweak-radically alter the graphics, the UI and the sounds, but you can't materially change the core game and its interactions.
Therefore, the weapons are the weapons, the effects are the effects, and the vehicles are the vehicles. The only way they change is if BFC finds something is wrong and fixes it or the Forumites find an issue, rigorously document the matter and send it in--with appropriate sacrifices and obeisances as needed! Even so, the BFC gods are fickle and ruled by the dread god called Business Solvency. Consequently, though thy Petition be however well formed, pleasing in aspect and dulcet toned unto their ears, yet may they reject thy most earnest plea. There beest, thous seest, only so much the Program when handle, even wert the Programmers available and the necessary other resources withal. Thou mayest have a brilliant idea, but be it sensible and doable? And if it be do doable, be it affordable? And at what other price or prices?
What the CM modders do is, rightly, the stuff of legend, but conjure de novo? That they cannot do.
And, yes, we have some of your countrymen here, as well as your next door neighbors from where WETA has its abode.
Regards,
John Kettler
reading this made my head hurt..

good find i hope they restore it

You should get all the Aris texture mods they are really good. Also JuJus UI is a must and i like Veins special effects and tracers. Vein also has good German and Russian uniforms mods.
Also if your new to CM i would watch all the Armchair General videos they are greatly amusing and really helped me when i started
-
I bought it played 3 quick battles then went and played RT scenario Beutezug as the germans overall i have to say CM is way better. I have lots of mods on all of my CM games though. Overall I think GTOS is a nice game so far and im sure i will get my money out of it, but like people said that interface is just soo awful
