  1. I know this has been brought up before probably more times than i can count, but wouldnt Battlefront benefit from the CM series being on steam??

I have so many friends that are interested in combat mission, but when they find out its not on steam their interest plummets. Also I think it being on steam would drive up sales. I have seen it on Gamersgate and GoG before but those sites arnt popular like steam.. Anyway what do you guys think?

  2. If you're talking T34/76s, remember that they have a four-man crew, with the commander doubling as gunner. That has a huge impact on spotting. From the wikipedia entry for the T34, regarding the T34/76:

Individual tank commanders lacked situational awareness due to the poor provision of vision devices and preoccupation with gunnery duties. A tank platoon would seldom be capable of engaging three separate targets, but would tend to focus on a single target selected by the platoon leader. As a result T-34 platoons lost the greater firepower of three independently operating tanks.[54]

The Germans also noted the T-34 was very slow to find and engage targets, while their own tanks could typically get off three rounds for every one fired by the T-34

With its five-man crew, three-man turret (freeing up the commander), and better gun, the T34/85 is a whole different beast and much improved. Those should be similar to commanding 76mm Shermans.

maybe thats what the problem is thank you

  3. I am having issues with this game since release. When i play as the soviets my tanks cant spot anything i have to loose 4-5 t34s to take out 1 pzIV. is this a bug with russian tank spotting? Or are they supposed to be this awful. When i play as Germans i have no problems with my tanks spotting. Or problems with my tanks in any other Cm2 game.. If this is a bug will it be patched with the first patch? thanks guys

  4. For about 75% of our total audience, perhaps. As anybody whose frequented these Forums over the last 13 years will know... Eastern Front is my favorite topic, but I'm not blind to the reality that the Western Front is where the sales are at. I bet if we put out an all inclusive 1941-1945 Eastern Front game it would be outsold by a Battle of the Bulge game.

Argue all you like, but if you haven't been on the sales and development side of gaming then kindly keep in mind that you don't know what you're talking about :D

Where Eastern Front shines, from a sales standpoint, is it's predictability. The Eastern Front is HUGE and offers us tons of game opportunities. Each one is almost as likely as any other to sell strong. Not fantastic, but strong. Which means we are more willing to develop Eastern Front games because we are confident they aren't risky. Provided we scale our development costs to the effort it's a win-win for everybody. It's why we have waited so long to do Eastern Front, in fact. We had Modern and Western Front "fund" the game engine we now have. Which means we don't need to plow huge resources into the game portion of the Eastern Front since it's already (mostly) developed. If it wasn't I can assure you we wouldn't have an Eastern Front game already well under way.

    Steve

I know western front sells better and im not saying what you guys are doing is wrong. I just really want to be the soviets. And since i found combat mission last year most other ww2 strategy games just seem dull to me now... So i just need my eastfront cm fix lol :P

oh and a battle of the buldge game does sound fun. But i need meh soviets

  5. I really do agree, it's so close with CMx2 but not there yet. It needs a major UI overhaul (this will help with immersion for many players), some serious in-game help for those who are not ww2/"genre" scholars and a big graphics engine "modernization". The core is amazing but it's still wrapped in a rather rough shell (comparatively speaking).

I am an absolute BF/CM supporter since CMBO and it feels like a tough love situation. Oh and I also totally agree Steam availability would really help CM's exposure.

yes I love CM If i had more money to spend on games i would buy all the CM games. But CM needs a server browser and new UI and STEAM! you just cant ignore steam in this day in age

  6. CM is a brilliant concept wrapped in a terrible interface.

We put up with the interface to get to the engine but if you don't know that engine is there, or don't appreciate what you're seeing, then it looks worse than most freeware games you'd get on an iPad because the information you need to understand what's going on is obscured.

Unfortunately there's a large proportion of the BFC fanbase that wants the game to present exactly what you'd see if you were in a balloon above the battle* and, as Steve is of a similar mind but not quite so fundamentalist, what we get is a completely unapproachable for the vast - and I mean at least 90% - number of potential players.

The marks it gets set against the devotion of its acolytes proves this - once you've struggled through to a H2H game, and have developed the habits and knowledge you need then it's amazing.

Before then...not so much. In other words, if you don't know what's going on in the game it's no fun playing it.

Tactical wargames have always been niche. Personally I reckon CM is good enough to appeal outside of that niche, but it's not getting the chance because of its iceberg nature, which is a damn shame.

*apart from the massive amount of AA tracer arcing towards you, natch.

I agree. I have shown CM to a 3-4 of my friends and they liked the idea behind the game and the detail but the main things that made them not want to buy are: Price lets face it CM is a bit on the exspensive side even CM Afghanistan is 35 dollars a game that old and with no addons or expansions is generally in the 10-15 dollar range by now. Another thing is the game not being on steam. Steam is so big and vast now that it seems odd to some to have a pc game and not put it on steam. And last thing was the amount of time they would have to spend trying to learn how to play

  7. *Cough, cough* - Don't get me wrong, I'd personally take CM over CoH anyday, but there's no doubting that CoH is indeed a very heavy strategy game with deep tactical layers. Moreover as a multplayer game (which CM isn't), it's easy to make an argument that it is tactically richer than CM because cooperative play adds so many more possibilities.

Thus, I think you are wrong on this count. However, the actual difference is that CM tries to present a tactically realistic computer wargame. CoH doesn't come close in that respect and naturally you would be quite correct to claim that legions of gamers out there lack a refined sense of discretion to be in any position to understand the difference. Neverthless, there are no doubt some that are aware of the difference but simply prefer the pacier and more 'exciting' gamplay that CoH offers.

'Computer wargames' do not have to be defined by the critera us 'grognards' might apply to the genre.

Company of heroes really doesnt have any tactics is blob on blob and the most firepower wins, but i will agree their mp system crushes CM the whole no server browser and 1v1 things is dreadful. Also CMs graphics arnt terrible i mean some thing totally look like crap but the people and vehicles are amazing looking. I started playing CM late 2012 so im very late to the party but The things i saw in the game blew me away so i spent almost 50-60 hours on the demos alone learning how to play and watching hours of youtube videos and reading on the forums. Then i bought the game. Its not the only game i play i go on and off with it, but it is one of my fav games. I have put many hours into it and love it.

  8. I was looking on metacritic and i noticed all the cmx2 combat missions have pretty bad user reviews.. I just cant believe that people can think these games are bad. Or that "they are rts click fest" I think combat mission cmbn and fi are some of the most realalistic and fun game i have ever played. Some of the reviewers said that the new ones dont even come close to being as good as the old ones and i was wondering what your guys thoughts were on the matter

  9. This makes it obviouse I'm too stupid to play this game. What about 2.01 ? Is that going to be another few bucks ?

Why not just have a game and update it?

I'm fabulously rich, can easily afford everything, but loath having to work out whether I'm five bucks better off upgrading my CMBN 1.11 then add on or bundle or whatever.

    So, NO SALE.

    Yet.[/Not

  10. Im guessing there will be a patch or two as it seems MG brought a few odd bugs, but after that the heroes at battlefront can release Eastern Front! lol Sorry Im just a huge fan of the eastern front and i can hardly wait. Both sides are just awesome and have a great range of equipment to use. I just hope we see some romainians in a module :D
