Heavy machine guns and suppressive fire
AslakH replied to CBR's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
With my experience with the MG42, tripod and bipod, the game seems way off. I don't even use the HMGs in CMBN. I use them like they would've used cooks and office clerks - rearguard with an undeployed MG. I have yet to see the MG42 perform as it should in CMBN. Nevermind the 1200 RPM bollocks, it just doesn't work. I'd rather have a green grenadier platoon covering my front, than a veteran HMG. No biggie, I just don't use the HMGs. And I will never use them, because they will never change. Good game, at the most. Not so good at some points. An overall 7/10. -
Weapon Effective Range and Ammo Type
AslakH replied to Chops's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Then you are mistaken, good sir. If it's any help: It also says 7,92mm on the AP bullets. Even the post-war Raufoss production called it 7,92mm. That was produced for a little while for Heimevernet (Home guard) before they upgraded the Mausers to .30-06. I've been hearing "8mm Mauser" my whole life, and I own two Mausers myself, so the terminology isn't all that important. No? Perhaps "8mm" is a British thing? Like screwing over the world by driving on the wrong side and calling everything "Mark -insert number here-". -

That's funny. On the cartridge boxes it says "7,92mm SmK".. And those (mine) are from 1940-1944. I've got hundreds of boxes (each with the 15 cartridges in stripper clips), and they all say 7,92, NOT 8mm. -
German crew weapons and coax.. problem?
AslakH replied to AslakH's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Well, if the germans don't get the MP, then the Americans shouldn't get one. The guys hiding behind the wall weren't crewmen (thinking about the AAR here). - Why make it random? Other than the beta screenshot, I have yet to see ANY german crewmen with an MP. I've seen plenty of US crewmen with SMGs. It's not random. If I call BFC lazy, I'd get a ****storm coming my way. And I don't think they are lazy, so I'm good. Maybe there aren't enough info on the subject? But it seems plentiful. -
German crew weapons and coax.. problem?
AslakH replied to AslakH's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
MP38/40 was standard in pretty much every german AFV, AC, etc. At least according to every book I have. Might be some marxist book I have that claims otherwise. But I don't see why it would. -
CM:BN vs PC:O like Blur vs Oasis?
AslakH replied to Nicdain's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Wait a minute.. there are JEWS here!? I thought they were italian! Haha. What a random thing to discuss on the BFC forum. But, anywho, I was looking at PCO the other day and I will not buy/get it. After playing PC:K I put it away. I was told it was "epic" and "better than CMBB!". Filthy liars! The soldiers looked like they were made from the tinfoil found in cigarette packs! CC I like. Been playing CC since the third game (CC III). Only fun with mods, though. CC5 with the Karelia 2 mod. <3 -
No. I would never convert to Islam. Or any religion. Not for a game, at least. Although I could dress up as a girl and flirt my way to a copy. What is this "dignity"? "Give the bitch a computer game. Bitches love computer games."..

After viewing the VAAR/AARs, something doesn't seem right. Where is the MP38/MP40 carried inside the german AFVs? This was not something random, this was standard. BFC loves the stuff that was written in stone. The US get their "Greasegun", now be cool and give the germans the frickin' MP. That's like in CMSF where the opfor crews only got pistols. Pretty sure there would be something heavier. Also, the Sd.Kfz 234/1 seemed to have an MG34 as coax (Correct me if I am mistaken), but it should be the MG42. No game breaking stuff, but the crew MP shouldn't have been left out. If BFC decides to give the crew an MP40 the game would probably be delayed another ten weeks. (The delay part was a joke. Had to let the old people know.) Well, any thoughts? Gimme mah game!

Well, it was present on most Ausf. As (can't say anything about the initial vehicles). I am intrigued as to where you got the October 1944 date from. Kampfraumheizung wasn't really that innovative in October 1944. Might have been on some Popov tank, but those weren't about comfort. I don't know about Sahara, but there are still cold mornings in Europe. That's at least my experience from living outside everywhere in the summer.

CMBN Module Disk in Pre Order Version
AslakH replied to jg1234's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Haha. I just watched Back to the Future part 1 and 2 last night. Ah, youth.. -
Almost every single Panther A had the Kampfraumheizung. Perhaps you are thinking about the improved heating on the later Ausf. G? Case closed. And it was a non-case anyways.
-
Crew Compartment Heater.
-
I fear you are mistaken, sawomi. If you have Panzer Tracts No. 5-2 (Panzerkampfwagen "Panther Ausführung A), it does not agree with you. Or did you just google it?

Could get quite nippy in the morning when it's raining. Would be good to know that my crew is nice and warm. It'd be a shame if they had to use diesel-burners to heat the tank, and get all covered in thick, smelly soot. Or..?
-
Or just hanging around in the rain, waiting for orders. It's not realistic unless I feel the cold rain, and the warm stuff filling the back of my trousers as 105's are falling around me!

Grenade throw from/to windows
AslakH replied to dkchapuis's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
From everything I've read, hand-to-hand combat wasn't all that rare on the Ostfront. Often a few guys got into the trenches and had to be fought hand-to-hand. In the book "De som falt" there are many, many accounts of people getting killed by shovels, bayonettes and just smashed to death. And that book only lists Norwegian and Swedish voulenteers. -

Even Hollywood gets the weapon sounds wrong. I'm just happy there are weapons in it, not just 2D plates cut from pictures of weapons. -

People tend to compare Steel Fury and World of Tanks. They aren't in the same category, but they see tanks and - BLAMMO! Must be the same. -

It was merely an observation. The lazy part was added to get some response, and I got it. I love you, man. And even if it wasn't beta, it'd be an easy fix. No? -
PC and Mac launch together or PC first?
AslakH replied to Chad Harrison's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
What's "Mac"? Those.. things I see kids using all the time? -
You finns only eat flatbread ("knekkebrød" in the almighty Norwegian language).

More importantly: Will the Kampfraumheizung on the Panther be modelled? I want it..! I need it! But, yes. To both of the OPs questions.
