    DT 2

Me too, at least in gaming. jby, good ideas, but these improvements will count for naught if the WWII genre turns bust. The only way a WWII game is not old hat is if it's about an alternate history (like Turning Point: Fall of Liberty). I've already given my ideas about a WWII DropTeam, but they might not work out or not be used. By the way, Grunt, we have online battles on Wednesdays around 8 PM EST, as well as the old time for Sundays. Think you could join us on either date?

Great list, Grunt, but it looks like DT 2 is headed towards the WWII genre. I think it's a horrible mistake, but we don't have any real control, I'm afraid (aside from making something that becomes an YouTube hit involving DropTeam that kindles interest for more of the original game's elements).
  3. They are. Are you sure those 3 files are all I need?
  4. Still no luck. I just can't get it done. I fear I have a modding disability that will forever get rid of all respect for me. Still, I'll try again, even though my last failed attempt was with WinRAR.
  5. I can't play the Gauntlet sceanrio, online or in standalone. It displays an error message when it gets as far as the include files and crashes. Can anyone help me? Edit: I don't have Bloody Iwo, but that apparently didn't stop Jung. [ May 25, 2008, 02:09 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  6. Sounds nice, Jung. I haven't gotten around to extracting and dumping in data the scenarios jby graciously donated, but given Jung's experience with the Gauntlettestserver, I'll see if I can join the server too.
  7. Just to let you all know, I might not be able to make it tomorrow because of thunderstorms. If I show up late, just know that flooding, 80mph winds, sky-filling lightning, and the threat of tornadoes were the only things that kept me away.
  8. It's great to meet you, Chilibird! I'm commonly known as 152, a deadly marksman, and a guy who goes berserk if no one is on his side. You can always see me on the Sunday and Wednesday games. And by the way, Jung, the turret ramming I did on Forsaken on Wednesday was intentional. I was going too fast for even me to track them and I had to become a carbon and iridium avalanche. Just to let you know, Chilibird, in the realm of new players, we've gained some: tb87670, kim2, RAT@$$, among others, but none of them have shown up recently. In fact, the only new player who's played consistently is me.
  9. Thanks. And how's the Hide and Seek scenario files work coming along? (forgot to mention in e-mail)
  10. 1 question: Do I have to have the Gauntlet scenario downloaded on my computer in order to play it online?

    DT 2

It's called Drop Team Alpha. When I saw the 2 videos linked to above, I was pretty stunned, as I had gotten to them while searching under "DropTeam". I think some wise guy guest to this forum saw my idea for a DT machinima and decided to apply the term to a game better known in the world of machinima.

    DT 2

Alarm! Someone appears to have stolen part of my machinima idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK3OQ5Xb_10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JFEORF4po8&feature=related Alright, who's responsible?
  13. Oh. No conspiracy theories for me then. Jung, sorry to hear Canada lost, even though the only thing I like about Canada is its geese. So, who's up for Wednesday's battles?
  14. I meant six words from me, not six words from you. Anyway, with Jung and you absent, it's no wonder no one showed up. Is there some secret communication line I haven't heard about that lets people know when the top players will be absent? And by the way, jby, how's the .scenario file work coming along?
  15. Okay, six words: Why didn't anyone show up today?
  16. That sounds great, Phonan. But my worry is that any new idiot who has modding skills will get to work turning out trash. And just as good-why don't we explain to them that they don't have to play the campaign. Maybe start a new topic about it and have Clay feature it. I for one have never played the campaign. I always liked being able to select the scenarios I wanted to sharpen my skills with. Treachery taught me the full value of infantry, Forsaken gave me a primer on extreme range gunnery, etc. Back to fan fiction-I've emailed tb87670 with the full plot of a fan fiction (one that could be turned into a machinima if so desired), and I'm waiting for his reply.
  17. Well, let's start by using this topic as a place to brainstorm a plot for a DropTeam machinima/fanfic. Sorry I took so long, I was waiting for everyone else. Here's my idea: Iridium Tide: Chapter 1: Arktos The year is sometime at the close of the 2nd millenia. Place: Arcanum. A raid is being conducted on (Razorback Island/a base in the arctic zone) by a clan looking for information. What information they seek, and what information they find, will be 2 different things. And what they find will send them on a dark and fiery journey to save the Rim.

    DT 2

Well, we could try machinima, like I suggested in the DropTeam PR topic. If we're able to make it big on YouTube and other video sharing sites (yes, there are video sites other than YouTube!), DT could get a tsunami of publicity (not to mention ad revenues). I'm already working on a plot and am bringing together a storyline. Then there's SquidLord and the possibility of video capture of the Sunday games for one of his podcasts. Or we could do a fan fiction. Or we could get a TeamSpeak server up and running for more server bandwidth and more publicity.
  19. Well, anyone who wants to add their parts to the story, feel free!
  20. Jung and I were the only ones who showed tonight. It looks like I will have to remind you all that Sunday isn't the only day we play together. Let's see who is going to come on Wednesdays. Jung and I are sure bets, but what about the rest of us? Here's the list of people playing on Wednesday starting from today. If you want to be on next Wednesday, mention yourself! </font> Jung</font>Myself</font>Phonan</font>Ruaanith</font>Stonewall</font> P.S. Nice work Jung on Twin Peaks with your infantry. I always try to have some infantry on call when I play objective games on the Blood side. On Water's side I'm usually too filled with the bot rush mentality to manage infantry and try to force my way to an objective at the same time (unless I'm playing with real people, so people of DropTeam, show up this Sunday, and next Wednesday!). 21. Sounds good, now all we have to do is get a server up and running. By the way, if you want people to be able to connect to the server, you should make its IP address known. All a person basically needs to connect is a user name and knowledge of the IP address of the server they want to go to, if I recall correctly. And don't worry about ease of use, TeamSpeak's interface is so intuitive it makes Mac OS X look like something Jobs wrote on a napkin while drunk.
  22. Congrats, Jung. What do you think a new child will do to getting your game on?
  23. Doggonit, WWII is overused. I had been hoping for a continuation of The Rim storyline. All most people who play Battlefront games will probably have as a first impression is that it's a FPS Theatre of War ripoff, and then they will have nothing to do with it. I'm just hoping DT 2 will become a much improved sequel to our current game.
  24. Heh heh, thanks Jung. I was just trying to get info from Clay about Delta Pavonis' hardware and he just happened to bring up DT 2 as the reason why he didn't respond earlier. What do you think we'll see in DropTeam 2, besides a graphics face lift? Whatever its graphical demands, I should be able to handle them as an Open Computer from Psystar (the one I mentioned a while back) could be in my future.
  25. Well, if you have any doubts, check out TeamSpeak's website: http://www.teamspeak.com/ It's proprietary freeware, so cost shouldn't be an issue. It comes in Windows and Linux versions, and has an unofficial Mac version. You just need a microphone. My laptop has stereo mics for its webcam system, which I normally use when playing DT. But for Steel Beasts, I use a Logitech microphone that is serving me well. Routing voice chat through the server might be a factor in why kim2 was never able to understand my voice transmissions.
