  1. My chats with Phonan regarding the demo have given me an idea: to put up a DropTeam Demo server to replace the original one that no longer exists. I have a few questions: Are there enough people playing the demo to justify my putting up a demo server? What kind of people play the demo? Did they ever play online frequently in the past? Edit: A lot of the stuff in the archive for the DT Demo forum should have been in the Technical Support forum, IMHO. [ June 03, 2008, 02:17 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  2. My mistake. As for payment options, here's the order page for the full version of DropTeam: http://www.battlefront-store.com:8080//index.phppage=shop.product_details&category_id=14&flypage=shop.flypage_bfc&product_id=50&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26&vmcchk=1&Itemid=26
  3. Given that my AGK spoof feel flat on its face in the face of a non-target audience (to who I apologize), there is only 1 thing to do: Try, try again! So in this piece of humor, I will try to answer a question that silently plagues other games, given the percentage of young players: What would happen if a 5-year old, hopped up on his older brother's (who's only 10 years old) 1337 reputation, played DropTeam (which the older brother stopped playing) on his brother's PC? Here's the result: 5 Year Old (5YO) Plays DropTeam By 152 5YO: "I play DT now! Use my brother's account and name, which is 5yo. He-he, I'm so going to pwn! He-he-he-he!" 5YO gets on DP with 9 players already on in an objective round at Volcanic Deposits. He drops a Hurricane and begins wandering around the battlefield as a lone wolf, while randomly shooting ammo into terrain. While wandering around, types in chat to all: "I pwn u u sad111". Then, Jung creeps up behind him and 20mm's him into oblivion. "N0000000 u ---- u ch3@ted ---- u u hakkor111!!1" Jung: "What's your problem, man?" Next Game, 5 Year Old tries his luck at The Dam
  4. According to this great site I use, it's actually GMT-4. Good to hear you're getting the full version, and feel free to join us on the Wednesday and Sunday games. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask us.
  5. Thanks for clearing it up, Phonan. Too bad, though. If there was a thriving (edit) online (edit) demo community, I could have entered and gone around riddling beginners. Still, Taki, if you want to run a server for the demo, here's some advice: You should try to have a dedicated server running, not the "listening server" option you'll see in the standalone page of the menu. For setting up a dedicated server, look at your manual and ask us how. But if a listening server is all you have available, limit the bots to a max of 5 per side (jby recommends 6 per side max for a listening server, but I'm just giving you a little margin). Your server shouldn't require too much power (though I have outlined my own dream DropTeam server, look through this topic). The main online server for the full version of DropTeam, Delta Pavonis, runs on a P4, 160GB hard drive, and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. So your server system could have the following components: </font> CPU: Anything from a P4 or Athlon 64 up.</font>RAM: 1GB of DDR or DDR2 should be enough.</font>Hard drive: Anything over 100GB will float your boat.</font>Graphics: Dedicated graphics for dedicated server=unnecessary, but required for listening server. Try a GeForce 7000 series, at least.</font> Hope that helps and welcome! [ June 03, 2008, 01:48 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  6. Hello Taki! We play online every Sunday at 3 PM EST, and every Wednesday starting around 7:30 PM EST. Cost depends. For just the disc or download, it's currently $20. With the disc and download, it's $30. I don't think the offer will last too long, though, so I'd get the full game right away. IIRC you can have multiplayer with the demo, but you'll only have 1 map to run on it. And by the way, Taki, I know you're not the AGK. We just had a 9-player blowout on Sunday (the usual day we play, though we play on Wednesdays too), but if you don't want that many players, relax. We hadn't had a blowout like that in 3 months, and the average number of players is more like 5 on the usual gaming days. Guys, I'm sorry that I didn't know about your not knowing about the AGK. Next time I come up with something like this, I'll ask you if you've ever heard of it before. And 1 last question that's been bugging me: How many players do you find online on the demo?
  7. Since computer hardware is a keen interest of mine, I can answer your question. Yes, a dual core CPU would make multitasking much easier, and yes, it would definitely be possible to run the game on one CPU and gamecam lite on the other.
  8. Thanks for correcting me, Phonan. I just found out that Fraps is Windows only as well. So here's some things that could help: http://www.ubuntuvideo.com/ Proof that screencapture for Linux exists! And more! http://www.getdeb.net/app/RecordMyDesktop A how-to: http://www.freecharity.org.uk/2007/04/12/the-secret-to-screencasting-with-ubuntu-and-free-software/ Do those help?
  9. I didn't think I was being insulted, I just thought I had made such a big blunder that I had ostracized myself on this forum. Rest easy, now that I know who I'm dealing with, I think the Angry German Kid (real name: Leopold) wasn't the best idea for humor out here. Sorry if my previous post was defensive.
  10. Reminds me of a storm I had a few years ago. Only the lighting was blue and filled the entire sky, and it was raining sheets. Still, why doesn't anyone even want to take a look at my AGK spoof? (as far as I know, no one's said anything about it) Is it not considered funny? Did I do something wrong in choosing the subject of a viral video for a spoof? As I've said, I've hit writer's block on it, and I thought you all would like to add your own parts to it. Feel free to do so. I wish you would. But if you don't want to bother, and/or it's not good, I'm sorry I ever put it up, and I hope Clay locks it for good.
  11. I'm back, after finding the power adapter, and trying the S-Video out port with my Canon camcorder. Didn't work. But there's always Fraps. Moon, I've seen the comments, most are good, but some of the bad ones are talking about issues that aren't a problem anymore (such as infantry not walking very well). You should seriously start making videos again, and this time make them about Sunday's games, with commentary from a few good players. Perhaps you could do machinima as well. Maybe then the game would get more recognition, and with the inflow of new players, that would only increase the creativity. Phonan, the video capture hardware I was able to find was Windows only, so Fraps is the only option (and I'm guessing you already have it). Sorry that this all came to nothing.
  12. I'll get back to you here...I'm just trying to track down the camcorder's power adapter.

    DT 2

Yeah, it's a FPS, but it does have some physics (such as dynamic buildings that can be blown up), and some great tactical concepts as well. For that, there's always Steel Beasts, but I doubt the average gamer (I'm talking about the average gamer here, not in the wider world) would be willing to spend $125 for a military sim still used by the majority of Europe's armies. I don't think so. He's too busy with DT 2, I assume. [EDITED BY ADMIN (commercial link removed)] [ June 02, 2008, 10:37 AM: Message edited by: Moon ]
  14. Reminds me of the thunderstorm I had on Friday. The marble sized hail was piling up on the ground like snow. As you might have noticed, I've been trying to get people to look at and add their own parts to my AGK Plays DropTeam spoof. Think you could take a look and add some funny parts to it?
  15. Yeah, what saved the Recon In Force round for us was trenches, Ithai getting through with a cutter to recapture the ion tower, and my deadly gunnery. Good idea with the infantry drop, though. If you had all dropped at the same time all around us, you would have had us in trouble. As it was, that didn't happen and my 14mm coax bagged a lot of kills. Treachery was a lot of fun, too, but I would like to see the gametype set back to Objective. I still remember the awesome rounds there with that gametype, and still have some tricks ready. Also, for anyone who's here, here's the 1st part of my Angry German Kid spoof: For anyone who wants to see the 2nd part, check out this topic, and feel free to add your own parts about the AGK playing DT. Feel free to do whatever you want to do with him in the story, as long as he's still playing DropTeam.
  16. Sorry to drag up an old topic, but I've come up with an idea that justifies doing it. We should have some great Sunday matches, like today's one, while at least one of us does video capture of them. Then they add their own commentary to the videos and post them to YouTube, so we can recall the awesome times and generate publicity (the last time I checked this morning, there were only 41 videos when I searched for "DropTeam", and only 4 had anything to do with this great game). Well, what do you think?
  17. That's right! That really was a lot of fun. Thanks for the kudos on Slug Fest (I got to do my Shrike ballet again ), and I saved the Raid and Recon In Force rounds. As for the number of players: Blood: </font> Me</font>Phonan</font>Ruaanith</font>Ithai</font>Paul Snively (He finally showed up!) Water:</font>Jung</font>STONEWALL</font>Foxbat</font>kim2 (Is he becoming a regular?)</font>Looks like 9 to me but awesome days! Too bad you missed it jby, and where were you? We've got to have another Sunday like that! Could someone get some video capture and upload it to YouTube on a day like this, so we can get the word out on how great a game this is? (I'll cover my ideas in another topic) Finally, Clay, please, please, please update the replay server, we should be able to remember this awesome day!
  18. Dang, that looks messed up. I don't think you're right in believing it's your graphics card, because the highly detailed textures on capturable facilities and units are in this zebra form, but the landscape and barracks look fine. In my opinion, it's not the hardware, it's the graphics drivers not being compatible with Ubuntu 8.04. But that's only a guess. I'll leave it to the others to find out what it really is.
  19. I'd say real life and other games had something to do with it. Still, this only reminds me of one of our jobs at the moment, which is: Getting more people online for Sunday and Wednesday. poesel said he could recall only 2 times when the server was completely full, and that was probably before Delta Pavonis became a little tipsy. But the fact that Chilibird's still in touch is encouraging, so we should at least try a very concerted effort to get more people online. P.S. Phonan, I've made an Angry German Kid spoof here: http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000497 I've been trying to get people to look at it and add on to it, but no one's put in their own additions. So I'm trying to personally approach people to look at it. Think you could look at it and add your own funny parts?
  20. Good one, Phonan. redcap036, nice to see you, and if you have any questions about gameplay, just post in the main DT forum. Welcome, and don't forget what Phonan said about the online matches.

    DT 2

They already have with Combat Mission: Shock Force. But, if they could come up with something like Steel Beasts, they might have something. I already play it and think the basic idea could be taken out of the military sim genre. Give it a more shooter/RTS approach like that used in DropTeam, brush up graphics, allow more players and virtual units (VUs), as well as get some stable servers, and they could have a good game. Edit: By the way, Imperial Grunt, I've got an Angry German Kid spoof up on the forums: http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000497 I've hit writer's block on this project, and I've been trying to get Jung to read it and add his own parts to it, but he hasn't had the time. Think you could look it over and add your own parts? It would be great if you could. [COMMERCIAL LINK REMOVED] [ June 02, 2008, 10:40 AM: Message edited by: Moon ]
  22. I'll get back to you eventually on the files I have, jby. You see, I've finished a 9-day weekend on Memorial Day (that was Monday) after completing a semester of online college courses, and I'm still getting used to my routine now that I'm back working on my next semester.
  23. If you make a password, better email it to the only people you trust out here. As soon as you make a password, a lot of spammers will join the forums and try to get it from you by trickery. Show no mercy and make sure if only 1 person besides you can access the Wiki, it's me.
  24. Tonight's games sure were fun. I got to do my DropTeam ballet again, and won every battle I fought. It was great to see Treachery again, and sniping with infantry. Jung and Phonan showed up, which for Wednesday is pretty good. Still, I'd like to see more people show up. What happened to tb87670? And mark487? kim2 showed up on Sunday, but I wish we could have him or her on the forums. I suggested it to kim2 on Sunday, but never got a response.
