  1. Well, poesel, I've tracked down the /data (I think) under My Computer, but the only scenarios I see are the ones I normally see (I think, not all the scenarios are listed under their names in game). As for dumping everything in /data, where do I dump from and what do I dump? Sorry if I'm becoming a problem, but I just want to be able to play some old favorite scenarios. Edit: I almost forgot, where are all the scenarios listed? Can they be found under My Computer? [ May 06, 2008, 09:24 AM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  2. Sorry to bother you, poesel, but I really need some help with bringing up the old maps. I just don't know what I'm doing. Could you give me a step-by-step post on how to do it? Edit: And yes, Phonan, it definitely seems that way. [ May 05, 2008, 07:38 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  3. Angry German Kid Plays DropTeam, Part 2 (AGK has joined the Blood team) "Yeah! Wooohooo!!! I'm on the same team as 152! Yeah! Now to have some fun! Yeeeeaaaahhhhh!!!!" (Shakes head) "Now, let's see the roster for Blood...Huh!? What is this mix up? Me, 152, Ithai, Ruaanith, Redcon, kim2, Imperial Grunt, mark 487, and a bunch of noobs I've never seen before..."(Types chat message on his keyboard) "I'm asking all of you noobs, did you transfer from the demo?!" "Hold on, must participate in planning...152, should I join in?" Me: "No, wait until you've got more experience before you suggest anything." "Aw, man. Who are we facing?" Me: "It looks like Jung, jby, Phonan, STONEWALL, boooom, RAT@$$, Dragoon24, WingTips, and assorted 10-year olds." (AGK flips out and bashes his keyboard) "Noooo!!!! I hate playing with 10-year olds!!! No! No! I want to destroy thhhheeeeemmmmm!!!!!" The end of Part 2... in Part 3, Leopold gets his game on...
  4. Yeah, it's too bad we can't get more people on the server. With a larger fanbase we could manage. But the number of bots is set by -numbots0 and -numbots1, so -maxclients could be a combo of real players and bots, or just real players. jby, I know what your processor is, and while it's good, it is somewhat low-end, and if you're into building and modifying your computers, you could always swap in another Intel CPU. With the socket being an LGA 775, you've got plenty of options: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2+50001157+40000343+1051707842+1050706986&Configurator=&Subcategory=343&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc= There are some reasonably priced Intel Xeon CPUs, designed for server and workstation duty. If you want to stick with a Core 2 Duo, here are some more options:http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2+50001157+40000343+1050722265+1051707842&Configurator=&Subcategory=343&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc= You should find a number of good processors. And if you want to go quad-core:http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2+50001157+40000343+1050727216+1051707842&Configurator=&Subcategory=343&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc= These quad-core processors are surprisingly inexpensive. Like I said, you have plenty of options. And I almost forgot, 2 gigabytes of RAM is quite good, but you can always put in more memory if you want. Just figure out what kind it is (with your system, it could only be DDR2), get another gigabyte installed, and you'll see a boost.
  5. I've created this thread for the purpose of having a place for humor in this intimate, small fanbase we inhabit. Everyone who has a keyboard and enough brain cells to type is welcome here. Enough formalities, let's start with my humor! (Note: AGK is a viral video about a 14-year-old boy named Leopold who flips out at his computer.) (Note 2: Quoth Jung: "It was funny", about my last attempt at humor) Angry German Kid Plays DropTeam AGK: (Sweeps pirated game discs off desk) "Computer, load DT! 152's 40-player server is up and running this Sunday! Now!" "Load DropTeam and get ready to pwn!" (Lifts keyboard onto desk) "Start it, now, I want to cash on 152's publicity deeeeeaaaalllll!!!" (Hammers keyboard) (In said publicity deal, I taught him how to play the game that made him forget about UT, and in return, he agreed to make a video of himself playing DropTeam) "It's starting now. Good." (Moves pirated copies of office apps off desk) "Out of my way!!!" (Starts DT without incident, clicks "Network", and then clicks "refresh". As results come back, hammers 3 times on his mouse in shock) "A ping of only 150!!! Oh my gosh it has only 2 spots left!!!" (Pounds keyboard twice) "I'd better get on now!!! Wooooooaaaahhhh!!!" (Clicks on "40 For Fighting" server, then clicks "Join") "Yes, it starts! Here we go! Here we go! Here we gooooooooo!!! Here we go! Here we go!" (Scenario loads) "Yes, its Hide and Seeeeeeekk!!! (Pounds keyboard yet again) I've always wanted to play this one!" The end of Part 1... In Part 2, Leopold sees his teammates and opponents...
  6. OK. I'll wait until Clay responds to my "What is Delta Pavonis' hardware?" topic before I discuss the possibilities of a server that could handle more people than Delta Pavonis in said topic. [ May 04, 2008, 08:01 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  7. This message is for Claytonius, for my 100th post  , and my 4th topic. Clay, I'm wondering, as a computer hardware geek: What server hardware does Delta Pavonis use? Update: I've sent Clay an e-mail asking him for the answer I seek. Update 2: I've got a response. See it in the Bloody Sunday topic. [ May 12, 2008, 12:38 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  8. I almost forgot, poesel, in the link you provided, in the full list of server options, it mentions that you can set the number of real clients that can be admitted, under -maxclients [number]. Does that mean that a person could run a DT server that could take 20 real players at a time if their hardware could handle it?
  9. Today's rounds were awesome! jby, STONEWALL, Ithai, and Ruaanith showed up, and we had quite a time. After a failure at Desert Mesa with Ruaanith, I joined jby and triumphed on House to House! Did some quality fighting there, where I dueled with Ruaanith's infantry and stopped Ithai's building runs with one well placed shot after another. Then came the Low Dunes round, which reminded me why I love this game. Midway through the game, I had to do Shrike ballet to avoid fire and keep up with Ruaanith, did quite well, and engaged in several running gun battles with other Shrikes. The final score: jby and me 3, Ithai and Ruaanith 0! Clay, if you can see this, please update the replay server so we can see the Shrike ballet! P.S. Ruaanith, your harassment skills with a 20mm Paladin are really scary. I wonder what would happen if you teamed up with Jung next time? Carry around one of his infantry squads and see what terror you two can bring.
  10. Okay. I'll see about getting Hide and Seek, No Man Is An Island, Bloody Iwo, and Down on the Bayou up on my laptop sometime soon (I sure miss those old scenarios, wonder if Clay could mix up the server scenario list this Sunday).
  11. About the scenario copying: Do I copy the scenarios from ScenariosList.dat to the main data directory, or have I got it wrong? Whether or not I'm wrong, could you give me a step-by-step list of what to do? (I've never done anything like this before)
  12. I believe it. jby, I connected to your server briefly, but no one else was on, so I left. By the way, can you bring up No Man Is An Island? And if you succeed, could I play even though I haven't brought that scenario up in my copy(I'm still awaiting word from poesel)? Update: I tried out infantry on Clavain's Watch. They worked quite well, 1 HMG squad leaving only a few tagets for the heavies. And I scored my newest AT Grenade record: 773.3 meters! Update 2: New record for AT Grenade kill! 991.3 meters! And to think they said it could only be used effectively at 300... [ April 30, 2008, 06:07 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  13. Heh heh, that's pretty funny. But Star Warsisms don't work on me (I'm a Trekkie ). I want to know: Is the timeline I laid down in the Bloody Sunday topic feasble?
  14. Both tips are nice to hear, poesel. I'll see about running them. But one question: How do I enable scenarios to run on a Windows copy in standalone (I run DT on a Windows XP laptop, my Mac is used for just about everything else)?
  15. I brought this up in the Bloody Sunday topic, but later thought it should be moved to a new topic. I think the events in DropTeam took place in the year 2650 AD. What do you think?
  16. Say, you just gave me an idea! Why don't you make a mod of the current version with old maps not available in version 1.3.5? Like Hide and Seek (one of my favs), No Man Is An Island, and Bloody Iwo? All you'd have to do is change scenarios.
  17. Well, you could run scenarios that aren't usually played, like Clavain's Watch. I wonder what Jung would do with that one... As for Creature Zoo, I'm afraid that's a no-go for me-no backup hard drive if thing go south on running the mod. As for my ping to DP, it's usually 48-90. [ April 29, 2008, 01:15 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  18. Yeah, I see your server, but it's ping is between 160 and 180. I'll give you some more time. Later: Make that between 160 and 190. [ April 29, 2008, 11:30 AM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  19. I think so. Other than that, all I have to say is if you're running a dedicated server and playing at the same time, you'd better have the world's best multi-core processor. [ April 29, 2008, 09:16 AM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  20. Awesome! Now there will be an additional server for backup and for anyone who doesn't go to DP on Sundays and Wednesdays! If you need guinea pigs to try out your server, I guarantee that I will be there. What name are you planning to give it? And what scenarios are you planning to run?
  21. What kind of experiment? Will we have to play some rounds? I almost forgot, will this be on Delta Pavonis, or is someone else setting up a new server? [ April 28, 2008, 08:21 AM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  22. Maybe so. I'd only just found out about Psystar today when I was Googling DropTeam, and a DropTeam review in Macworld had Psystar as a related article. The Open Computer does have Ubuntu, both regular and server versions, as OS options. But you're right, anyone could use an old computer, or, follow my idea and build their own. From what I could tell, the baseline Open Computer was using a Asus TM-211 case, which I thought was decent. The OpenPro Computer was using an Antec P180, which is an excellent case for a high end system. In fact, the P180 was designed for gaming and server duties. A cheap computer that is no longer needed for anything else would do pretty well as a DT server. But some people might not want to install a new operating system or have a computer to spare, so that's why I proposed rented gaming servers. It would give more people the option to create more servers. But for a small, inexpensive server, there's always Shuttle barebones systems for the more adventurous. But for people who want it constructed for them, these might help: http://ztechshop.net/computers/miniseries/ http://system76.com/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=83 For Wal-Mart lovers: http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2007/10/200-everex-gree.html This next url might be helpful for Europeans: http://webapps.ubuntu.com/marketplace/europe/ If you want to install Ubuntu yourself: http://librenix.com/?inode=11001 http://ubuntulite.tuxfamily.org/?q=node/2 A little something for Mac mini owners about installing Ubuntu (hey, that's a great idea for people who already have them!): http://rfdlinux.wordpress.com/2008/01/11/installing-ubuntu-710-on-a-mac-mini/ What I want to do by inspiring the creation of these servers is to attract more people online, raise awareness about us and our game to outsiders, and give us a lot of space for experimentation, and even some tournaments. That's it. That's what comes of the power of Google and a hardware geek. P.S. On the Open Computer, Ubuntu 8.4 and Ubuntu Server 8.4 are free (Yippie! We just saved $155 dollars by not buying Leopard with it! ).
  23. Okay, I'll rest easy. But who can step up to the plate of running part-time standalone servers or full-time dedicated ones? I think I can help both users:  http://www.psystar.com/psystar_open_computer_osx86_reinventing_the_wheel.html This site shows a pair of Mac clone models that can run Mac OS X Leopard, and can also be ordered with Ubuntu Linux 8.4 or Ubuntu Linux Server 8.4. Just follow the sidebar links.
  24. On a related note, I put up a listening server while Delta Pavonis was down. It did hold for a while DP was being restored, but since it's a laptop with integrated graphics, it won't be doing permanent duty. Now for my question: What is the maximum size of real players recommended for a listening server? I was just wondering, because I think someone should run a listening server for anyone who doesn't play on the regular times. Sure, we need to get the word out more, but I still think that a listening server, preferably with a multi-core processor, should usually be up. Incidentally, I know that there are many services that allow you to rent server space for popular games. Could someone rent space on those and create more DropTeam servers so that more people can play?
  25. The title says it all. I had to try a listening server, but that was too much for my computer after a long time gaming. What went wrong and what will be done about it?
