  1. Just to let you all know, I spent Sunday playing co-op with kim2. The most noteworthy game was the last one, a CTF round at Boiling Point. We scored what I think is a new record for flags: 7 flags (!), including a last second score by me. It was just like jby's last second score at Low Dunes, but without the game on the line. Just out of curiosity: What is the current record for flags brought in?
  2. We'll be starting at 7:30 PM EST, MiR. I'll see you there. And kim2 might show up as well. In case you don't know, mate, kim2 has been playing online since early March, but is still considered to be a bit of a newb (for instance, insisting on capturing enemy buildings on CTF at New Yosemite this Sunday, even though there are no AA towers). It should be interesting to see how things go, eh? It certainly is. See you online.
  3. I checked using this website: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html It's actually 9:30 AM Thursday your time. And my head's twisted on the GarageBand question as well. See you tomorrow. [ June 24, 2008, 12:05 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  4. It's US EST. What I'm wondering about is: How to take my composition from GarageBand or iTunes and attach it to an e-mail? I'm not certain about me having greater talent or experience, but I can give making the music a go if I know how to get it to you.
  5. Looks like a standard video editing feature for a video sharing site. I myself would prefer a dedicated editor, like Windows Movie Maker or iMovie. But suit yourself. I Googled it and it looks impressive. I've done some composing myself in GarageBand. I'm not the best, but I do have some talent. As for our online games, we have the Sunday games at 3 PM EST, and the Wednesday rounds starting around 7:30 PM EST. You're wise to get some work done so you can get the full version (it had a price drop this February), and you should spend some time getting used to the game. When you feel ready, feel free to join us online. In game, I'm often referred to as "One-five -two" or "152". To chat with your teammates, hit enter, type what you want to type, and hit enter again to post. Follow the same steps for global chat, except hold control and then hit enter to start a global message. To use voice chat (this requires a microphone that your HP laptop has, I use the microphones that come with my HP laptop all the time), hold down P while talking. Hope to see you real soon, mate. And poesel, nice idea for collaboration.
  6. Actually, I loved the soundtrack! What was it and where did you get it? Today, I had some nice games with Stonewall and Ithai (2 players I frequently play with), and these 2 guys are just 2 reasons why joining the full version club is a good idea. Stonewall is a good all around player who likes to leave the base and shoot up the enemy rear when playing Blood, and Ithai is the one person who can rival my gunnery skills. If you're running into lag, you could turn off dust, reduce terrain quality, or any number of things. I turned off AA because it didn't make that big of a difference, and I can have the terrain quality over 3/4, and view distance close to the max. Given your laptop's superior performance, you shouldn't have to do as much to eliminate lag entirely. Hope to see you online with the full version, but you can keep up the good movie work with the demo if you want. (With the full version, you get a lot more maps, and some of the gameplay will be different. For example, vehicles, when hit, only have a small bit of sparking around the impact and some smoke for AP & HEAT rounds, and a hit may not always cause damage)
  7. I've been playing the campaign to see what everyone's been talking about, and I've made some good progress. I'm now on the 5th mission, and I've haven't lost a single mission, but I would like some advice for going forward, just to be sure. What should I do in the following missions, and how many missions are there?
  8. Really good job, mate! I'm not a YouTube member, so I won't be able to comment there, but nice job for PR. This could really do something. I'm wondering: What are your system specs? Just to see if you can handle FRAPS and the full version of DT at the same time. I'm running the full version on an HP laptop with a 1.6 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and a GeForce Go 6150 integrated graphics solution. The full version of DropTeam runs just fine for me at 800x600 with AA and the eye candy turned off. I'm not running FRAPS myself, but if your machine is a more powerful dual-core setup, I'm confident that you can run the full version and FRAPS at the same time.
  9. Sounds great! If you put something up on YouTube, put it the Battlefront channel. Follow Moon's advice and e-mail him at martin@battlefront.com to let him know so he can accept it. And if you want the plot for my machinima idea, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.
  10. I've never played the demo, so the only questions I can answer are about the demo server and your connection. It's offline for a reason which I do not know. (I've put up a topic asking some questions about that here) You should definitely get the full version. It comes with a lot more maps, and a great online community. Your limit probably won't get too dented, given that we only play online on Sundays and Wednesdays, and right now we're in the off season. My question is what is your connection speed? I play online on a 384k cable connection and the only lag I ever experience is server-related. By the way, there is network play, but it's not what we use for the Sunday and Wednesday games. The only server we normally use is a dedicated server named Delta Pavonis.
  11. That's great! It's great to know that someone has the ability to do some work, given poesel's not a fast producer, jby is working out some graphics issues, and my attempts to get video in the first place ended in failure. You could also always join in on the fun and do some Fraps or other video-capture software while you play. That way, you can get your video from the source (so to speak) without having to download another file. Of course, there are also the replay files we could send you, or you could do video capture while viewing them. DT could use some good PR, given that when Battlefront put some DropTeam videos up, they got some bad comments. But the majority of the comments were positive, and I believe that we could raise a lot of awareness about this great game. PR wise, here are some ideas I have: </font> A weekly feature, to be put up on YouTube, about the Sunday and Wednesday games. (Right now it's the off season with summer on the way, but we had some awesome 9 and 7-player blowouts just a few weeks ago)</font>A machinima series, about the Clans fighting for survival. I've already outlined the plot of one to a member, but he hasn't responded. I could forward the email to you</font> Finally, all of this should be in the Battlefront channel on YouTube, as per Moon's advice in the first DropTeam PR topic: Here's hoping this takes off.
  12. Dang. But at least it's good to know that I've found that old page in the forums where you showed how you did it. By the way, nice video quality in that old movie. Back on track: Could anyone else get the video in a similar way to poesel or another way sometime this year? Normally I'd do it, but it seems that I'm the only person out here who has never had a Linux machine before. I'm so impressed with the video quality in poesel's QuickTime video that I really am not as enthusiastic about Fraps, (given that I'm not certain how to get footage from there to my Mac) so I should get that Pinnacle MovieBox, hook it up to my HP laptop, and get cracking. (As soon as my budget permits)
  13. I think I've found a good way to get in-game footage into a publicity video. I was digging around with the search function and found this: Freeware 4 movies for Mac users poesel, think you could make some more of those movies? The one you made in that topic was nice, all that's needed is for you to use that same setup, be unlocked from a unit, soar over the battlefield, make some commentary and mention our commentaries. Put in some effects, upload to YouTube, and we've got a really good video about this great game up for the video sharing world to see. Think you can do all that? Edit: Here's the gear poesel used to get Linux into iMovie: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815144006&Tpk=moviebox%2bdv Edit 2: Sorry Moon, I didn't intend to make Edit 1's included link a hyperlink. It just happened automatically. [ June 19, 2008, 12:57 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  14. Well, no one showed today. That's the way it is. So, in an effort to keep up attendance, who's free for next Wednesday? And Sunday? On another topic, I've just started the Campaign mode and have completed the first 2 missions. Not particularly hard, very interesting as a leader, and some nice background story and big maps of Hopewell. Anyone got any tips to survive the next missions? From looking on the forums, it seems a lot of people didn't get past the 3rd or 4th missions. Finally, I put up a topic in the DT Demo forum back at the beginning of the month asking some questions out of curiosity. Could someone give me some feedback on it?
  15. And the Wednesday time is 7:30 PM EST. We still have some big blowouts in terms of online players at these dates and times. Welcome back, and watch out for me.
  16. I need some more cutter practice too. And thanks. Sunday's games were good, don't get me wrong. But they were a bit of a letdown after the 9 and 7 player blowouts we've had for the previous 2 Sundays. Which brings me to anther topic, meant to try to get more people to show up on Wednesdays and Sundays: Who can make it on Wednesday? And who can make it for next Sunday? If anyone responds I'll keep a list up of the people expected for the games.
  17. Pretty interesting games today. jby, you threw up a wall with a cutter on the N side of the base on Ice Field. I had no trouble jumping it twice, but isn't digging on Ice Field considered illegal? Great job with trenches on Forsaken, those things kept me from going any farther than just into the base. jby and I did co-op on Unexpected Reserves, where we dug our best trenches yet. They stopped a number of enemy Paladins, and helped us focus on a few targets instead of many. But the Twin Peaks round was the most interesting. It was me and Ithai vs. jby and Stonewall. Ithai and I took our ion Thors and ran into a group of turrets that we quickly took care of. I learned the ion Thors on Twin Peaks move from Jung, under which I spent many uncomfortable minutes. From there, we blew up all the defenses and a see-saw battle was on! jby and Stonewall, inventive use of trenches on Twin Peaks, but it didn't stop our win. I think the use of trenches as cover for your units and turrets might have been your undoing. The turrets were unable to spot us and thus we picked them off. Trenches for units, in my opinion, should be relatively shallow diggings designed as hull-down positions. If you had made more, smaller trenches designed as hull-down positions, you would have held the objective.
  18. It sure does. Will you be able to make it this Sunday? We've had some awesome games these past 2 weeks, including the incredible "me and Ruaanith vs the world" CTF game at Slug Fest, where Ruaanith and I fought Jung, Stonewall, Foxbat, and a relative newcomer named kim2, and actually won on points alone. Another epic battle was Recon In Force last Sunday, with me and Stonewall vs. kim2 and Ruaanith. (Check the Bloody Sunday topic)
  19. That was rather stupid. Who would want to seal themselves in the Ice Field fort with walls, when infantry can jump the walls and have fun in an enclosed space? On another note, if we do play together on Sunday, jby, I'll be happy to be shoveling alongside you. Digging with the cutter, I've found, is very relaxing. It gives you a way to control the landscape to halt and hinder the opponent.
  20. That didn't stop Jung and me from digging yesterday (though we had to keep digging past the deployment to get the full group of trenches), and it didn't stop me from digging a remarkably good trench on Sunday (what can I say. it stopped several Paladins, including a Bacchus). The trench revolution began 2 weeks ago from last Sunday, also on the Recon In Force round. In that round, though, the trenches that were dug on the Blood side weren't much more than a diagonal edge being dug into the base of the embankment. Now, my treatise on the Cutter: The Cutter: Digging Usage By 152 The Cutter EV: A vehicle normally associated with Territory games, and its large numbers are used for trying to capture buildings. But it's capable of a lot more. Now to see about digging. Digging is not often seen on the battlefield. Perhaps because people mistakenly believe that digging is too time consuming. They're wrong. In the Unexpected Reserves CTF game with Jung yesterday, it took us just 10 minutes to complete the trench system that we later played against. If a trench is dug my way, it will look like a deep V with jagged edges. I know Jung has his way as well (the "dig in as little time as possible" way, which is faster), but if you dig a trench my way, you'll trap any Paladin that tries to cross it, and cause a big hangup for any other unit. Trenches would also be a good place for sensors, jammers, turrets, mines, and infantry. Just think of the defensive nightmare you could make with mined trenches loaded with infantry! It would take a number of players to dig trenches and mine them within the deployment phase, but it would be the ultimate defense. P.S. Why isn't my picture appearing?
  21. Here's my summary of tonight's games: Although only Jung and I showed up tonight, we did do some work with Cutters, and found that using them to dig trenches around a base in Unexpected Reinforcements made the game more intense, and made the base harder to penetrate. The trenches trapped 1 Paladin, and caused a lot of motion sickness on a Thor. Tonight's game (Jung and I also played Forsaken, but that's another story ) certainly was interesting. And I think cutter digging should be used in more games, given the success of the tactic tonight, and on Sunday, during the Recon In Force round (look in the Bloody Sunday topic). Looks like I'll have to write another treatise on it tomorrow.
  22. So, who's playing tonight? [ June 11, 2008, 04:05 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  23. 5 Year Old Plays DropTeam Part 2 Note: I'm tired, so excuse me if this humor stinks like the last piece. "Sunday's here again! And my bro's upgraded my comp! This thing could crush Crysis! Hahahahhah!!!!" With this I will pwn!! 5YO has joined the Blood team. Instantly, Jung, Phonan, and every other straight shooting player joins the Water team, leaving 5YO with some guy named RAT@$$. 5YO screams into voice comm: "Hey, what the ---- just happened?!" RAT@$$ only chats on the team chat: "Who are you? Stop screaming please" (Furious hammering on keyboard) "Wh0 @m 1??? !'m teh br0 of ultamatbadanov13341337, and I'm goin teh pwn111 pwwwwwnnnnnnnnn uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!1111! gfdsnjopaefhoi[fegqWHEW!!!!!!!" In the Water camp: 152mmDumbRocket has joined the Water team. Me: "Hi y'all" Phonan: "Stay off the Blood team. There's a nutcase named 5YO usurping commander and constantly trying to end this scenario" Me: "Wait a minute... There was a guy named that on my 40 for Fighting server 2 weeks ago, on the Hide and Seek round. And I wonder if..." AGK has joined the Blood team. 10 minutes later... I'm listening while on the Blood side. No one's noticed my listening in since Ratty has left the server, and now the AGK, 2 minutes ago, just annihilated 5YO's Thor with infantry. After 1 minute of furious flaming, AGK's gone over to the Blood side to voice his opinion: AGK: "Haha, I owned you! You went down so easy!" 5YO: "0H y3@H??? U wont survive my hakks!!" AGK: "Loading 1337HaxOrz program!" Me: "Everyone off the server, before this blows up! Gogogogogo!!!" The end of Part 2 In Part 3, the forum wars are just beginning...
  24. More awesome games today! Water: </font> jby</font>kim2</font>Ruaanith</font> Blood: </font>Me</font>Jung</font>Stonewall</font>Ithai</font> On Raid, we managed to hold the base against rushes and won. Their capture of the E ion tower did not help. Enough said. On Treachery, both sides agreed to abandon defenses and go all out to get the enemy's flag. We won again, thanks to an early goal scored by me. But the Recon In Force round was the best. It was me and Stonewall vs. kim2 and Ruaanith. We held them off in a battle so good that it by itself justifies updating the replay server. Here are the highlights: </font> I dig a trench on the E side of the base. I try to get Stonewall to help, but he was busy. But the trench was an excellent one and helped stem the tide from the E, including allowing me to kill a Bacchus that got stuck in there.</font>Ruaanith attempts to sneak up on us from the S under cover of downed trees. I spot him and snipe his frontal armor though the foilage, killing him with 1 shot. </font>kim2 makes several attempts to capture the ion tower. All stopped.</font>All considered, 1 great game!</font> Kim2 said he stunk at shooting on the Raid round, while I pounded him with 120mm HE, trying to get some shrapnel through the sides and rear of his Thor. I told him if he joined the Battlefront forums, I and everyone else would teach him. No response. Should I make a topic about good shooting? Speaking of kim2, where have the other new guys been? mark487, tb87670, redcap036, and others haven't showed up online since they first came up on our radar. Maybe it's just taking them a while to learn the many details. And at least kim2 is becoming a regular. Finally, let me just say about the Recon In Force round, and the other rounds in general, something along the lines of something I said in the Recon In Force round: You (Water) partied like rock stars, but we (Blood) partied like rock gods. That about says it. [ June 15, 2008, 05:14 PM: Message edited by: 152mmDumbRocket ]
  25. You were on time, don't worry. Those were some good games.
