  1. It sure was fun today, sneaking around on House to House and capturing right under Jung's nose! kim2 didn't show up. We met this guy named Schturm. It was his first time online, but he was quite experienced from LAN matches. I checked, and I can't find him in the forums. He said he played with his coworkers after work. Now if only he can get everyone else at work to come online! Players today: Me Jung jby Ithai Phonan ZenGentoo (Aniruddha) Schturm Did I miss anyone?
  2. It sure is great to see this many people saying they'll show up. See you there.
  3. I didn't know that. I was talking about my 6127 meter kill with a 120mm HEAT round on Ice Field. My apologies. Should we form a "6000 meter club" for those who have killed at such a great range?
  4. If you want to be less of a bullet magnet on Wednesday, you could get some practice in online tomorrow at 3 PM EST. Beware, for I am one of the deadliest shots in the game. I'm one of only 2 people to make a kill at 6000+ meters without ion beams or ATGMs. Present your sides and rear to your enemy, and he'll kill you. Get to his sides and rear, and you'll kill him. However, do get used to the fact that when you get killed, you won't see who did it half the time. Also, watch your back for infantry. They're stealthy, and when used right, lethal. I've laid bases low with only 1 squad snuck in. If we meet tomorrow or Wednesday at 7:30 PM EST, as I've told you in my PM, I'll give you some more info. And Aniruddha, we already have a time for the Wednesday games, which is 7:30 PM EST, the original time. But nice idea with the European rounds.
  5. Well, I'm from Minnesota, USA. Jung's from Toronto, Canada, and jby's from Austria. You could have found that out by looking at our public profiles. There aren't many of us, but we're close knit as a result, and we don't have problems between players nearly as often. The incident between Jung and kim2 is only the 2nd run-in between players I've ever seen (the other involved me ). And Ani, we have a Wednesday match (7:30 PM EST), but if you want to have a time and maybe a server for European matches, that's just fine. Our Sunday matches are at 3 PM EST, and have existed since the beginning. The Wednesday matches have only existed since a few months ago.
  6. Hi kim2, I know how much you like the Hermes, and that you seem to need it wherever you go. However, this dependance could become a big weakness that I and other players can exploit. For instance, what happens if you run out of Hermes? Say the other players and I target them more, because we know how vital they are to you. What will you do then? In the Unexpected Reserves CTF round we had recently, you were moving on our flag with a Thor and a Hermes several times from the west bridge. oren_m and myself were guarding the flag, I facing you while oren_m flanked you. Together, we halted all efforts to grab our flag. The point: Not every strategy revolves around a Hermes. oren_m and I didn't need it to keep our flag safe. There's a reason there are only 8 given per game: They're in that short supply because of their tech level, so use them well. One good idea that missinginreality is learning is to use the Hermes' cover to drop sensor jammers undetected. Then you have a corridor of jamming for your battlegroup to travel through, and you can extract the Hermes to be dropped later. If you're worried about being detected, use intervening terrain, and shoot any sensors you see. It only takes 1 burst of 20mm fire to do that, which is why sensors are often paired with sensor jammers. Anyone else have anything to say about strategies not needing a Hermes?
  7. You can thank yourself for that. You told everyone with the global chat feature back on Ice Field, if I recall correctly (IIRC).
  8. Only Jung and I showed, but we had some good co-op rounds. Bummer on your ping, mate. Just wish you could show up on Sundays, but see you next Wednesday. Jung's trying to make it when he can, so if you make it next week, you could see him. And he's dangerous (don't listen to kim2 on that matter, he thought Jung was a noob last Sunday ), so watch out!
  9. I sure wish I could do it. I donwloaded CZ, put all the unziped files in the Mods directory, and nothing happened. Don't even offer to to help, because as much as I would like to run a mod, modding and me just don't agree.
  10. I know I don't play the game you're playing, but I am on top of all things computer hardware-wise, so I feel compelled to tell you this: Don't exchange if you can help it. The Radeon HD 4850 is an incredible steal for the money, as CPU Mag noted: "We don't expect the 4850 to keep up with Nvidia's recently released GeForce GTX 260, but two 4850s in CrossFire should give the GTX 260 a run for its money, at roughly the same price." Keep your card if you can, and work out your problems if you can. If you can't, feel free to get the 8800GT. And yes, there's the chance that a new ATI driver will fix your problems. (BTW, it's now AMD, not ATI)
  11. I almost forgot to say this, but I've never met Toby or SquidLord online. I've met Redcon, though, and he's tough. When he owned my cutter with that 6000 meter shot last Sunday-how many meters was it precisely? Yeah, he still does, but at least he does so more often than Redcon.
  12. That's the way I use turrets. Great name! Am I considered vintage? Just wondering if I was eligible. I agree about the amount of CTF right now. I can't believe The Dam is set to CTF right now, what was Clay thinking? Still, we might want to try The Dam in CTF. I've done it in standalone, and it's not that far between the flags. There's just a lot of other space to hide in. And there's some real hills.
  13. Well, someone put down mines around their flag when Jung, Ani, and I went to take it on Boiling Point today. Phonan and jby have plead innocent, and I believe them. So that leaves orenmn. Oren_m, mines are disallowed on CTF games under the New Geneva Space Viking Convention, as they are unfair against the fast units used in CTF. Don't worry, we know you're new, so no one here will bite your head off. (Incidentally, the reason I believed jby is he's practically the founder of the New Geneva Space Viking Convention.)
  14. Awesome feat for a real gunner! It's a bit easier here in DropTeam. My personal record for a kill with a 120mm round in a normal atmosphere is 6127 meters on Ice Field on my 2nd shot. The first shot hit the Paladin, but failed to penetrate. The second penetrated and blew it up. BTW, if you want to beat my record, use HEAT. AP really loses penetration at long range, but I'm sure you know about that, and that HEAT never loses its base penetration.
  15. Well, with DP back up, we can have our weekly games again. I just want to know: Aniruddha, are you coming tomorrow? And are you, oren_m? Who else besides them can make it tomorrow? At least you can know I'll be there.
  16. I'm glad I helped. I also wish we could have a round on Archipelago as well. It's been such a long time since I last played that map. Quite interesting, with its islands and causeways.
  17. Looks like you failed to put it in boldface. But it's nice to hear you're becoming better at long range gunnery. My all time record is 6127 meters. Wish I could have been there. Sea Cliffs is always a curse on your computer, but it sure is nice to play on. This Sunday, could we play on a specific set of maps that are agreed on previously? I'd like to play the Sea Cliffs CTF, Slug Fest CTF (the site of the famous "Ruaanith and 152 vs. the world" CTF match), The Dam (in whatever mode it's in, I just love the place), and Volcanic Deposits.
  18. I'm not certain myself. kim2 wasn't very coherent about either plan. BTW, he's on the forums now (he's been playing online since March. He's a good player, but is a bit... determined to lead when he does so). You messed the plan up at the right times with your infantry drops. kim2 told me as I dealt with you, "come on I need help today not tomorrow" as we were on the edge of forcing our way in. I've explained to him what went down in my last post.
  19. Yeah, it was. Especially Phonan's Viper terror, and the ATGMs of doom. Kim, I had to turn around right at the critical moment yesterday because Phonan dropped infantry behind us. And no one wants to think they're about to take the base when Phonan riddles their rear with AT grenades. Actually, they do die, so be careful with them. But tomorrow never dies. I won't be around for today's games, but I'll be here for the Sunday rounds, no question about it. Let us know how today's games go.
  20. Well, this Wednesday turned out to be the biggest one yet, in terms of turnout. Here's who participated: (Note, all games were co-op) Me kim2 Phonan Ithai orenmn Phonan whupped kim2 and me on Ice Field. From there it was co-op madness. That's all. (If you're wondering why I'm so abrupt, it's because I'm hungry.)
  21. Update: Delta Pavonis is back up! Go see for yourselves!
  22. Clay responded!: Well, Aniruddha, your idea for a dedicated European server is nice, and we should keep it in mind as a backup, but it won't be needed for now.
  23. I'm no European, but I do have this to say: jby is putting up his dedicated server for the Wednesday battles, and I'm certain he can get it up for Sunday, too, if Clay hasn't got DP back up after over a week. I'll send another email to him demanding a reply. Don't worry, your idea is good. Now how many people want to contribute?
