  1. I mean it's not official, and if you wanted to you could still create threads, it's just your extremely unlikely to get any replies.
  2. Hate to say Wickd1, but I think SC1 has indeed been "shelved".
  3. arado, that's not a wise decision if you attack Egypt when Alexandria is the capital. It's practically impossible to break the Allies grip then and their navy will be able to completely reinforce its self, not to mention the additional supplies the Brits will get, etc. Not to mention the British player would be placing new full researched units from the dead there. Bottom line, do not move on Africa if Alexandria is the capital, unless you've knocked Russia out and German troops move in a two pronged assault, one at El Alamein, the other through the Caucasus.
  4. SeaMonkey, don’t worry I've decided to take up the challenge of designing this type of scenario again. The only thing that I need is for people to give me a little help with a simple question. Why in the world can I not download my own god damn mod and have it work correctly in the editor? Is it because almost all the work was done on it by v 1.00 and 1.01, and I currently have v 1.02? The problem that I keep encountering is the editor crashes on me with a message saying "cannot find unit scripts blah blah", but when I type unit in the start search, guess what comes up... and not only that but those unit scripts are perfect, no errors which would cause the problem were found by me. Note I play tested my almost finished product 4 times and I played on Expert +1 experience twice for each side. I ended up getting 4 major victories. So based on that I feel like I designed a fair mod for both sides. Major victory scripts are the same thing for Japan as a tactical victory, and for the Allies it's getting Japan to surrender by Aug 15th, and if the Allies managed to get Japan to surrender no later than Jan 1st 1945 then the Allies would get a decisive victory. Considering the fact I made Japan a formidable opponent I don't think many people would be able to achieve this, unless they were totally reckless and EXTREMELY lucky.
  5. Honestly try and fortify positions around Tobruk and deploy troops there, give them navy and air support, along with some HQ support and they should be able to hold out, from here you can have your major forces concentrate on Russia. Russia will decide who wins and losses the war after all, and if you focus on attacking El Alamein all your going to get is a jumbled mess of troops with little and sometimes no supply. Instead have these units destroy Russia. I also second what arado said, WAW and PDE are much better then SC2 blitzkrieg, and for more reasons than just the rail road structures, and in fact I even think WAW is better than PT. The best thing about PT is its carrier improvements. Note be careful about where you put your HQ in Africa, as in WAW and PDE air power can wipe them out and then your behemoth tanks, and ME 262 Jets will be running on very little gas and almost no ammo.
  6. It's only a 5-10% decrease in America's activation. Something that's not good to do if your the Allies is to attack Mexico, unless you want to fight the Spanish (for whatever reason).
  7. I have to be honest in the hundred plus games I've played, I've always taken Norway in the very first turn I took it's capital, so I doubt it has a 15% of holding out (3 units, 2 corps, 1 destroyer). One way or another Norway will never really decide the game so if you want to attack it for whatever reason go for it, but if you chose not to attack it, don't worry you haven't hurt your chances of winning.
  8. You know this is a really good idea, and not just for making it easier to have ships be in place. What you could do is add in a few decision scripts, such as German unrestricted submarine warfare. If the Axis player accepts then he receives a few extra subs, but angers America greatly. Another decision script you could add in would be whether to ship oil to Japan or not. If so a small portion of the west US begins supplying Japan, if not Japan's activation jumps greatly. Set the value at something like 15%, this way you can save a minor country slot.
  9. hmmm well what if you factor distance into the equation? It's something I sort of hit on with one of my last posts. Fact is to send reinforcements from the east coast USA to Okinawa would take some serious time. Same with the Germans sending troops deep into Russia, especially in the south near the Caucasus. However let's remember this is a game George, and games imho should always be fun, otherwise what's the point in playing them? Yes this is a strategy game so there is a lot of thinking involved, but none the less it's still a game.
  10. Don't worry about it, I thought you were talking about Fall Weiss, I just didn't want to post some really long response just to hear that you were talking about something else. You get the paratroop unit in December of 1939, not sure what day though. As for the whole capital thing goes the only countries that have more then one capital in this game would be Germany (2), USSR (3), and UK (2 but there are special scripts which will allow the UK capital to move to Ottawa, Canada and Alexandria, Egypt). So in short what this means is that if you capture a countries capital that's not in this list, and accept the creation of the Vichy France Govt system, then that country will likely surrender to you that turn you took it's capital. Hope this helps
  11. Yep the laptop I have know is sort of like the early version of the Tiger tank. An amazing beast when everything is going as it should, but it can all the sudden erupt into a huge fire ball with no other reason, besides the fact the tank was temperamental at best. To be honest Brad I feel the same way about SC as when the pats lost the super bowl to the inferior and very lucky Giants. Just don't want to think about, the only difference is I wasn't personally involved in the pats loss, but this little thing that's just him was directed only at me. No biggie though, after all it's only a mod. Arado I couldn't agree more that it will take a whole new game system for any major changes. Who knows Hubert does seem to have some pretty big plans
  12. Sorry btw SeaMonkey, I know I should have contacted you with this info early, it's just I've been so busy, with trying to get my laptop back in shape, family vacations away from the internet, my job, etc.
  13. Same here. SC, and I've also tried out a few games, and none have even come close to being so easy to use, and yet fun too. If you're looking for a complicated strategy game you can find them, but they seem to only give you headaches, so what's the point in playing them? Unfourtantely my laptop crashed, and we had to reinstall the operating system, this is what happens when you spend close to $2,000 on a dell laptop . Anyway my external hard drive that I bought to back-up all my files didn't work for some reason, so I lost my baby, when it was only about 1-2 hours away from completion. I spent a good portion of my day working on, when I could, and after about 6 months this happens. If only I uploaded to the battlefront registry, as then I could simply download it all over again, and finish it. Oh well no use in crying over spilt milk. And on top of it all when I re-downloaded the basic Midway Major, and was going to begin to work on it again, I received an error message when I tried to open it up in the editior (couldn't find unit scripts). It's probably, because the basic Midway Major campaign was originally worked on as v 1.00/1.01, and now I'm running v 1.02. Any help here guys, I'd really appreciate it. Same thing went for my operation Z mod only I spent about a 1/5th the time on that then I did my Midway mod.
  14. I see what your saying SeaMonkey, but in short it still comes back to one really good quality this series has, and that is simplicity. At the same time though sometimes Armies strengths were 200,000 men strong, but in this SC game they can't exceed 100,000. I hate to say it but is there anything out there that is the perfect WWII strategy game? Of course this is a rhetorical question, as nothing is perfect in life. One thing which bugs me about this game is that you just hurl millions of men, thousands of tanks, aircraft, support vehicles, etc headlong is some mad attack. It's not really realistic, but the reason for this is yet again simplicity. One last thing I would like to mention is the SC editor is by far the most user friendly editor I've ever seen. If you guys want to give yourselves a headache you will use one of combat missions editors, and try to develop a good map, I dare you without getting any migraines first.
  15. arado, If Germany did use women it would go in total contrast to what Hitler was preaching for years. Who knows what the cracked SS forces would have done when all the sudden everything changed... That's one thing the Nazi's never liked, change. Anyway to get back on track in order for either my compromise form of George40's idea, or his own idea, I think that it will have to come on SC3 (totally new game engine). This is of course if SC even wants to use this idea, and to be honest I doubt they do. It does make sense though that you shouldn't be able to make an Army of 100,000 strong drop to 10,000 and then fully reinforce it to 100,000 in a week, or even a month if it falls on those three turns of the year. Not to mention it would probably take the reinforcements from Germany much longer to reach their designations points in the winter then in the summer. btw I think you already know this but during the fall and spring months the turns are 2 weeks. Also in PT all turns regardless of the month are ten days. These are facts I'm sure you know, I just figured I'd post them anyway.
  16. Very true Arado, I wasn't thinking that much of air units. I guess if SC went through with this idea then they would have to re-construct the basics, then again Hubert is already talking about making SC3 totally different, so who knows. Although then again maybe there should be something for this, just have it be some sort of compromise, as you have to admit having a unit go from a strength of 1 to 10 is a little unrealistic. So what if they made reinforcing units a little harder by raising the cost for reinforcement points? idk I just figured I would through it out there. Allow ships to be able to receive 4 strength points a turn. Remember a typical turn is usually at least a week, and well the Yorktown got repaired in I think only a few days. Granted she paid the price for these quick repairs.
  17. First are you talking about v 1.08 Global conflict or the normal Fall Weiss scenario? I wasn't a huge fan of the Global scenario, as I just felt like it was a jumbled mess of units and land tiles, so I never really played it all that much (no offense to the people that made it). With that said if it’s Fall Weiss scenario I could make the suggestion not to bother with invading Norway as you're not going to benefit even 1 mpp more if you attack it then if you don't. However if you want to attack simply send 1 Army and 1 Corps to Oslo and provide air support (attack and capture Denmark first) No I think given that they are by far the most valuable units in the game, and can make or break offensive and defensive operations, that if anything they might need to be made a little bit more expensive. Hope this helps.
  18. IW, ATW, naval warfare, LRA are techs you should invest in. Don't worry about diplomacy or other forms of tech, unless of course you want to try V of MJY ideas. Something else to consider is the Italians will never win you the war no matter what. Germany decides who wins and who losses. So it might be worthwhile to hurl your Italian forces at the Allies even though they are hopelessly inferior against them, so that you can buy Germany a little more time to win in the east and then send her forces back to Europe to crush anything the Allies have in place. I suppose Mussolini would be appalled by this idea, but when you get close to taking Russia out, it always seems that the Western Allies begin to hunt you down, and get easy victories, which can be a major concern for the Axis player.
  19. Not a bad idea, it's just simplicity might just be the best quality SC has. So based on that I would think that it might need a little tweaking to simplfly it. Maybe just make it so that you can reinforce a unit from 1 to 5 instantly, and then add in another reinforcement to the action list of a unit. Have this work the same way as elite reinforcements work only have it cost as much as 1 reinforcement point would cost. From there it would take five turns to get the unit to fill strength again (minus elite reinforcements where applicable). The only problem then becomes what happens to a unit with a strength value of 5,6,7,8,9?
  20. Could someone please tell me, step by step on how to get this fix to work properly? I did read the ReadMe.
  21. Could someone please detail everything that you are suppose to do to get this fix and CMBB to work, everytime I try to run the upgrade I get a windows has encountered an error message. Thanks in advance. I did read the ReadMe.

  23. Hope you feel better soon Hubert. Note minor back problems, can very quickly turn into something very serious, especially if it's a disc or anything to do with spinal fluid, so take rehab seriously.
  24. Take a wild guess, I've done an AAR with Tim, I've posted many threads, I've made mods, if SC wants me to be a beta tester they'll contact me. I'll happily be a beta tester, but I'm not going to impose my will on Hubert and company if they don't want me to be one.
