  1. This looks like it is an incredible game btw my only question is: can a PC and Mac user play each other or can they only link up if they are both on the same platforms?
  2. Leto, Check out this site http://www.the-proving-grounds.com/
  3. Thought I'd pop back to ask if there was an update on TCP/IP turn based option (WeGO). Never liked the real-time two player and from some months back it was obvious that many felt the same. Is this imminent?
  4. What utter rubbish. Games are completely unlike music and movies because you would be a fool to go and see a partially finished movie and listen to a piece of music that has half the instruments missing. Who are you his brother? Shafty definitely out this time
  5. Ball, I (we) have heard it all before. Your absence was simply your decision to let all the complainers run out of steam and for you to pop back up again when it had died down. Pathetic. I gave the game away some months back. It is probably sitting on a market stall with a price tag of 99 cents (a rip off if you ask me). I have gone back to playing CMAK and CMBB with my wargaming friends and it is a delight. I am sure alot have done the same so that is probably why the forums are a little more friendly. Only your close friends and family are playing CMSF and posting. I wish you better luck and better sense for your next game. Shafty out.
  6. Cadmuim, you in UK. If so I can send you my copy.
  7. LongLeftFlank is right. Loved the other games and still play them. This one is a frustration and on so many levels. I figure give it 2 years then reinstall and patch up and see if we have a game yet ,or not!
  8. This realism argument is a bit ridiculous. We are extending coloured lines from our units, zoom/teleporting around the map, pause and replaying the action. Need i go on. It is a game to be enjoyed and if you think that for one minute you are closer to 'the real thing' because the game isn't split into minute chunks then quite frankly you are a delusional moron. It was a big mistake to drop the TCP/IP WEGO format but unfortunately is has become a bone of contention. If BF include it then they will have to admit that they were wrong. Sadly and clearly they are wrong but they are no-where big enough to admit it, otherwise they would have accepted it along time ago and there would have been plans already publicised to get it in. Alot are so frustrated because its omission has ruined what could have been a stonking game for them. Oh well, lets hope another company latches on to the discontent and releases a similar game with what people want. [ October 12, 2007, 12:29 PM: Message edited by: shafty ]
  9. Hopelessly outdated, says who and what is that view based on. Certainly not on the popularity of turn based online play. In fact the number of people who would love to play this game in the format that is by fay the best, you would think that it is far from hopeless and most definitely in vogue. (thanks to battlefront for showing us how much it enhances a strategy game such as this). If turn based is hopelessly outdated then throw out your chess and Go boards, why waste you time with such silliness.
  10. there is an TCP/IP 2 player turn-based option? Where?
  11. Still no WEGO. Why the hard nosed stubborn stance. It was a great feature of the previous game and obviously worth keeping in. It is like having no LOS tool and claiming that you have moved on from that and and in any case it is more realistic to have to adopt a 'soldiers eye' view to assess visibility. If I send back the CD with the cellophane packaging unbroken can I have my money back?
  12. I think the biggest problem isn't the game it is the monumental task of wading through all the ****e on this forum and picking out the wheat from the chaff. Steve, what is your chaff pile like? [ August 24, 2007, 02:29 AM: Message edited by: shafty ]
  13. I suppose it is easy to have your opinion lost in the debate. Some people like that, alot of people like this, most of us like the other. Best thing to do is tot up the proportions that like something and lean towards that if you want to give the crowd what they want. But is what they want really important? RT isn't a move forward as it has already been done to death by other games. SF is just joining the throng. Where is the money, well it is with RT, quick fix, wham bam thank you mam. Lets go mainstream and really haul it in lads. We are being assured that BF know what they are doing and we really have no idea what we want, but BF do. BF know what we really want, you just don't know it yet so stop complaining about a lost aspect of the game that you really enjoyed, which made you become a CM fan above all the RT arcade click fests that were around and get with the RT programme fgs. BF is a business, not a freaking charity and they have no obligations towards any game format. They produce a 'product', stick it on the shelves and if you don't like it then don't buy it. If you have already bought it then i suppose you can always try to take it back otherwise tough luck matey. Your money is in their pockets. Personally I am old enough and experienced enough to know what I like. RT has been around and I have tried it with a few games (there are many about). I have also tried turn-based strategy (also many about). WEGO I have only played with CM (anyone else other than BF ever produced WEGO? either way I have not found any). Which game do you think stood out from the seething crowd and held me? Times change people and sadly the 'good ole days' are always behind us.
  14. I think that WEGO is prefered by many as it becomes a thinking game. Not that you don't have to think in RT but with WEGO you win based on your ability as a tactician and stratagist (is there such a word?) not on the speed you can whip around the map and click you mouse/hotkeys hoping you can get to your units on-time with the correct 'click'. If you like to spend a rainy Sunday (or sunny Tuesday for that matter) afternoon poring over what is essentially a delux game of chess (relishing all the action up close at all angles) then the one you prefer is obvious.
  15. Bit of a waste of a thread. There will always be one who is 'disgusted'. I know your point is that you want a complete, finished, polished product straight from the box but is it ever like that? With these sorts of game it is initially a veritable 'patch-fest'. Just be patient it is early days. It will all come good in the end
  16. Forget the blue bar. It isn't about the blue bar. (perhaps is is being used as a symbol for WEGO games - who knows). It also has nothing to do with the AI or calculations either. If the AI/calculation were a problem how can the game support a WEGO one player format? eh, eh? It is about a turned based 2 player format and that is it. So stop muddying the water. I am sure Battelfront will sort it out. There is such a buzz about this that a quick patch will cause a wave of satisfaction and glee across the whole CM community. I can almost feel the excitement of anticipation at the thought of the announcement that it is going to happen. I think (hope) we just need to be patient.
  17. Yes, I know that the PBEM is a 'work-around' but what a complete pain that would be. The game wouldn't flow. If that was reasonable then both turn based and PBEM would not have been included in the previous games. Odd that it was included for one player though. Was it an oversight? Was it concluded that not enough CM players play Turn based and the majority PBEM? Is it worth bribing anyone to get this in? The above aside, it is a mighty fine game and I am enjoying hugely the single player. My Sunday afternoon opponent will just have to wait and hope for a patch. Please Battlefront let there be one.
  18. I know there have been enough comments on this but is there confirmation that we will be able to play a 2 player turned based game. For me (and for many many players) playing in this format (essentially a bumper game of chess) was incredibly fulfilling and damn site more meaty and cerebral than this RT malarcky (which I know has its place but the turn based format raised CM to lofty heights way above all the others.) Please, please bring it back I beg and grovel.
