I should of phrased it better.. so late in the Eastern War
I think the 2nd paragraph is a pretty good analysis why so late in the East Front war.
-
why is it set so late in the campaign?
Big Cats fighting big vodka drinking tanks. Everybody likes a big tank.

When I clicked this thread, based its title, I thought it was a flusterated grog wanting to pre-order.
But its just spam.

The only thing a little disappointing for me about the news of this series is that it starts at Bagration when the Germans were really starting to suffer through a lack of men and equipment and got steamrolled by the Soviet juggernaut. Kursk would have been a more interesting starting point, that said I'm sure I'll still buy it.
Sure it was a slaughter at this time, but I doubt you'll play real life scenarios many scenarios where 12 SU-100 with tank riders attack two ATGs and a weakened infantry company on the open steppe. Those aren't much fun. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict some fair and balanced scenarios will be included in the game.

Getting a bit tired of your gainsaying everything I say, Jon. So the girlfriend and I kidnapped your Australian Cattledog and will keep him until we see some improvement. I'm holding his tags . Rambunctious fellow, this one, so we had to sedate him. And what grown man names a male dog 'Whimsy' anyway?
When I had a Cattledog I lost 30 pounds (13.6 KG). I had to walk the beast 25 miles (40 km) a week to keep it calm. Damn. Why didn't I think of sedation?

On 23 Dec, Santa began his roll in to town according to the BFC home page. Last night (7 Jan) I stored the Christmas decorations up in the rafters, however, comma, no sign of Santa....yet. Not even a pre-ordered Santa.
Just saying.

This is related to CMSF, but for some reason any attempt to visit that area of the forum logs me out, and logging back in just redirects me back to the log in page. This should be applicable here too though.
Ive seen that others have noticed that squad and team leaders seem to get fragged a lot more than other members of the squad. Ive lost count of how many times I end a mission with no casualties apart from every single squad leader. I think this is due to the way the game handles the formations. when units are given a move order, they generally form a single file in the order to which they're listed in the UI.
Is it possible to change the order the units are arranged in the UI, so that squad and team leaders are no longer on point all the time. Im not very schooled on RL tactics, but it doesnt seem wise to have your officers taking point anyway. as far as I know, its usually the automatic rifleman on point.
Sorry if this has been covered before, I did try searching.
-James.
Split squads or breakout a scout team or two to take point.

It's actually been discussed quite a bit. Guess you were out sick those days.
It's certainly *would* be possible for certain types of AFVs to set up for indirect fire within the context of a CM scenario, especially in longer scenarios on larger maps. But there would need to be new features added to the code so this functionality couldn't be gamily abused.
I would assume primary reason it's not allowed for AFVs is that a vehicle would have to register its own location before engaging in direct fire; it definitely would not be realistic to have SP guns just flying around the battlefield, engaging in indirect fire without significant setup delay. Modern AFVs built for indirect fire can do this, but not their WWII ancestors.
Many WWII SPA vehicles also had restrictions on the elevations and/or bearings upon which they could execute direct fire without aids like earthen ramps to create additional elevation.
With infantry guns and howitzers, putting up the aiming stakes etc. indirect fire registration can probably be assumed to be a part of the gun setup time.
I have moved mortars and then used them for indirect with no delay for alignment to a stake or KRP.
-
The same way I use onboard mortars now, I guess. Have someone with a radio close to the gun and use a spotter who also has a radio. Haven't tried this yet, but I can't think of a reason why it can't work.
Michael
I just tested it and it works. Indirect Fire is permitted for german infantry guns and pack75s. I had always thought mortars were the only on-board units that could use IF.
I made a long 1400m board and placed a line of level 4 houses near one end. I positioned 4 pack75 at varying distances behind the houses and a FO on level 3 of a house looking down range. Depending on the distance behind the house the min range that IF could be used varied.
6 square behind houses - min range greater than 1320m* (could not use IF)
10 square behind houses - min range greater than 1350m* (could not use IF)
13 square behind houses - min range 1000m
17 square behind houses - min range 750m
*NOTE: These range limits are just the map I made. Extending the map could get different results. And I'm too lazy to retest.

I haven't run into any problems yet with file transfers being too large, but maybe I'm just playing smaller scenarios.
What I don't like about using Dropbox is that it tends to stifle email interaction between opponents. There's much more back and forth from each opponent when you're forced to send the file through email.
I don't use H2HHelper but IIRC there is a message capability there.

I play some Freecell and some Spider Solitaire - 2 deck.

Thanks guys---the Urban Dictionary is perfect !
Sewage Dictionary would be a better name.

It's some how related to mods. Remove your mods then give it a look.

In creating a scenario I'm trying to start a few troops from both sides inside a town in the center of the map. I was trying for both sides to have an option of being able to setup inside a three story building.
But, it seems like I cannot overlap setup zones in the editor.
Is this the case or am I not doing something right?
There was an old CMBO or CMAK scenario where the units were all intermingled in a small town. Rubble and burning buildings every where. Flames in every direction and flying bullets in every direction. A few tanks on the edge of town. No real objective but kill or be killed. Can't remember the name. Strictly H2H. I don't thing the set up zones over lapped just checker board on the map.

I know BFC has discussed the East Front as either being several games or one game with many modules.
I exclusively play PBEM QBs against 1 friend. In setting up the games we select random for most options and just go from there. We don't give each other rejection rights if we don't like the battle.
I would like to see a single game spanning from 41-45 with random selections for date and region. And with regards to the BFC business model, I would see no problems paying the game price each time a new year is introduced. And the $35 for any modules for each of the years.
Additionally on the CMBN I'd like to see the Region selection France/Holland and date/month add an option of RANDOM.
-
All good points with regards to the command delays. But something should be done to the Russians because all accounts say they tended not to be creative and take initiative on the battlefield.
Nothing was more frustrating then the command delays when the log jam traffic pile up occurred. It took massive micro-managing to clear a jam out.
Like the 91 at rush hour.

The biggest GOD-LIKE ability available is view points 2 and up. How many pre-Viet Nam commanders (helocopter) could levitate above the terrain and see down on the battle? Not very many. Additionally you cant see the battle from a spot that you are not on.
There was somebody's rule set went something like this:
1. Use the tab key to move from unit to unit and then do pivot while viewing the map.
2. Aways keep your camera at level 1.
There were several more. I'm not sure if this was a rule or not. I would toggle troops off, then using a view 7 review the empty map from high above. Because every commander had a map.
I tried this a few times and said NO WAY. What was the name of those rules??

Lol, sabers as in cavalry weapons not the ones you're thinking about young padawan
In fact there were cases of very successful cavalry charges against German infantry in the September campaign. Please do not confuse with German propaganda about cavalry charges against tanks...now this one was a lie made up by the nazis for propaganda purposes.
Uhlans (polish cavalry) always fought on foot when facing German tanks and were equipped with modern AT weapons (AT rifles and 37mm AT guns). In fact, in 1939 that time they were pretty much mounted infantry rather than traditional cavalry.
Sorry for the digression, carry on
Interesting. I had a coworker that said his hHigh school math teacher was in the Polish cavalry. The teacher claimed to have busted his saber on a tank barrel. The teacher made it to America right after the war. When I heard this story I assumed complete fairy tale. It probably was true.

Any news on multiplayer features? 2 vs 2 or 2 vs AI for instance?
Also, I think introducing modes like 2v2 doesn't mean CM is gonna go operational. For realtime games it could mean a company for each player making it easier to control the troops. Question is, how much effort it is to change the engine and netcode to enable more than 2 players in a game. I do think WEGO 2v2 would be easier to create but again, it's up to you guys to decide, I believe it could be worth it though and create more interest in CM games among those looking for some coop experience.
If I have a daughter her name will be "Biffsee" - BFC.
I just read the BFC Bio's and cant come up with a good name for a son. So based on that I'll just call him "The Boy".

отлично, наконец-то!
+1 to 76mm.
What does it mean?

I saw some casualties on the tank riders in the movie. Will the seriously hurt/KIA just fall off the tank or will they stay on board till the rest jump off? Gives us another movie where the T-34 takes a hit from an 88.

In a windy scenario I saw all the FFE rounds fall 75-100 yds off target. I adjusted target 75 yds up wind. Then they fell "on target" 75 yds away from the enemy.

Try Mords' "No Music Mod".

There is a free version of Fraps. Either that or BFC can attach Fraps to the game for an additional $49.95. Free is better.
