  1. The same people would let you know that all the captured binoculars would have been smashed by their owners before capture. Orders, duh! ;)

The Soviets in the summer of '44 had some very capable kit and the factories were putting out a lot of it.

Binoculars? Sure they were smashed by the enemy. We take a block of ice hold it in the palms of our hands to form replacement lenses. Worked pretty good from November till March.

  2. Commo wire. Modeled.

Soviet 4mm wire weighed 1 ton per km. I want guys with wire spools running about. I want copper colored comm-lines. Just like the red command lines, but copper! Not sienna. Copper. They'd follow them around and link one unit to another.

And then they'd jam tank tracks. And conscripts would cut lengths to help hold their bedrolls together. And artillery would break them. And repair teams would fix them. Lightning would shock the men. Enemy could sneak next to them and listen in.

    :)

    Realism z the BFC way!!
  3. how does that work?

2 players share a folder in dropbox and you place your files there. Thats how swaps are done. No one can see the content except the 2 players and the NSA. If you play more than one person at a time just create and share with the other guy. All free. Just sign up at DB.

The h2hh tool automatically puts his file in your incoming folder and moves your completed turn to DB for him.

  4. - Are vehicles and soldiers individual? Various faces for each soldier? Different turretnumbers and amount of damage to individual vehicles?

    - Are the maps living? Civilians? Birds? Animals? Real living rivers running across the landscape? The map is not a piece of "land" in the middle of a pointless universe?

God I remember the 1st time I gunned down some civilians in Command and Conquer. That was sooo cool. I thought it would never get any better than that.

But it did get better. We got a red painted Toyota Prius driving around on a pointless universe.

  5. - Do vehicles operate in their intended role? Amphibious vehicles going through water? Mine clearing vehicles clearing minefields? Ambulances recovering the wounded? Ammunition and foodsupplies during very long battles?

Food Supplies during long battles. Always. Typically some crackers a good wedge of Jarlsberg cheese. And if it goes really long, a short break on the patio for a cigar, typically with ice tea not alcohol. You have to think clearly when you hold the lives of pixeltruppen under your mouse clicker.

One more thing... I wouldn't know anything about a Toyota Prius, I drive a Benz.

  6. Hi guys

I just checked out Red Thunder and though it looks like a nice expansion. Well expansion my ass.. this thing costs 55$?

This isn't really a question. The English I learnt in school says that is not a question...

I mean I have checked out Combat Mission Shock Force before and judging by the content, nothing impressive or new has been added to justify that price?

    I wouldn't know I don't play Shock Force.

Is the game worth the money?
    HELL-YES.
  7. Even if you were attacking in one direction along the corridor it would be fun.

I still (when I have time) really enjoy the ("dynamic"?) campaigns in CM1 where the playable area of the map moved depending on your progress, so you would start on the far edge of the map that you played the previous mission and would be seeing more of the map as you progressed. Of course if you were forced back you would find yourself fighting over areas of the map you'd already played.

I can't recall if the terrain maintained any damage, craters etc from mission to mission, but it may have.

I dont remember about terrain damage either but IIRC destroyed tanks would be there battle to battle. But tanks that could be recovered would be removed.

  8. What nobody has made so far is a map that is 2km x 8km. For a really long, detailed in depth battle this could be really fun. An example would be a defender starting with the middle 3/4 of the map and the attacker starting with the map edges (on the 2km side). The objective for the attacker is to join up, the defender to keep a road corridor open through the middle. This could be made even more challenging by having the defender get periodic reinforcements of trucks which have to be exited from one side to the other.

It would be a massive undertaking to make such a battle, and the battle itself would probably need the max time and regular reinforcements, but oh man... that could be one heck of an epic battle!

To quote what Tim Allen used to say about walking thru the Craftsman tool section of Sears? "My nipples are getting hard thinking about it."

  9. There is a workaround - give the tank a HUNT command, then give the riders a command to move off at the tank's terminus.

If the tank takes fire, it will stop and the riders will dismount and attempt to carry out their own movement order. If it's also HUNT, they'll stop there, if not, they'll advance.

Sounds like a good work around. I'll give it a try.

  10. I know we all screamed for adding this feature to the game.

But some new command needs to be added to get the tank to stop and have the guys jump off once the bullets start flying. Maybe the hunt command needs some alteration so they jump for cover.

Either that or I need to learn to play better. :D
