New mod with many changes: JSH 1.0
CharlieMike24 replied to Sneaksie's topic in Theatre of War Modding Forum
Gnasher says it all.... -
1 ) Infantry entering and fighting from/within buildings. 2 ) The mission generator needs to be easier to use. User-generated missions have been thin on the ground with TOW, compared to Combat Mission Shock Force, which has a thriving forum. TOW needs its own Quick Battle Group (.....Mishga, are you there?) 3 ) Victory and defeat dependent upon objectives and minimum remaining forces, rather than the last man standing. Retreat option would be good too. Thank you for asking

It doesn't work as it appears on the post... But, if you cut and paste the full address (excluding the quotation marks)into your browser, it does work. The problem was the space between the word "Unit" and "modeling" "http://files.games.1c.ru/_/TOW/Unit modelingTOW eng.rar" Thank you Sneaksie

AT Team eaten by Mole People!

How do you aim with AT
CharlieMike24 replied to Godfridus's topic in Theatre of War Strategy and Tactics
Godfridus, The way I do it is with my unit selected to right click on the target, and then use the Alt-1 (turret), Alt-2 (body) or Alt-3 (tracks)to target the particular component. I think there are other ways, but I find this works well for me. Hope you're enjoying the game -
Crash..error message..

I've not had any further freezes since I disabled AC97 onboard soundcard through the control panel (I have a Audigy card installed, too). I suspect there are some hardware conflicts that haven't been identified yet. Also, try turning off all unneeded background processes - FS Autostart is a program that you can configure to do this. Hope this helps....its a great game really!! -
POLL do you think 104 is MUCH better then 101
CharlieMike24 replied to WW2Wargamer's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Yes -
I have the same bug. ATI X1950 Pro with Catalyst 7.9. The menu flickers and mouse-ing over logo causes other (opposing forces) logo to disappear. It happens with AA enabled or not. As you say, its not much of a problem, but somebody (who knows about these things) might know what it means...

First Impressions of 1.04
CharlieMike24 replied to kevinkins's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
The combination of large maps from Mishga /MarkEzra with smooth framerates (1.04) and great graphics makes Quick Battles lots of fun -
ATI Mobility Radeon Solution!!!!

Let's be fair now, Battlefront can't be expected to know how to get the latest drivers for every system available. IMHO, your laptop's manufacturers have not given you the necessary support to find these drivers. If we're going to bash Battlefront, lets keep it above the belt -
Freeboy So this is US English, yes?

when is the next patch due ?
CharlieMike24 replied to KiloAlpha4's topic in Theatre of War Tech Support Forum
Jmayer, Another thought...I also have AC97 chipset. I disabled this through control panel>system>hardware and I managed to finish Dunkirk for the first time without a crash. Didn't use FSAutostart either. I have an Audigy soundcard to use instead. Don't know if it'll help, but you could try disabling AC97 too... -

I had frequent system freezes with TOW when I first got it and found it next to unplayable. (unable to even Ctl-Alt-Del). They still occasionally happen, but much less often when I've run FSAutostart before running TOW. FSAutostart shuts down non-essential background Window processes, freeing up RAM (and perhaps getting rid of a conflicting process into the bargain). Its freeware, perhaps it will help you? -
There are quite a few new missions and a couple of early mods at CMMODS . The game is apparently very moddable, so expect more before too long.

Excellent idea!...now do we know the penetration values for a rubber chicken at 500 yards!

Sneaksie has said that the difficulty settings are due to be adjusted (in the next patch, I think). If so, there may be more choice whether to play a game of "shoot'em up" or sweat over a game of "be shot up"!

Great news and the Forum seems to have come alive again
-
Thanks. Looking forward to further developments with TOW.

I did win once on easy Repeatedly lost on regular (with various tactics), until I changed the ZIS gunner's skill from regular to novice. I found that the most frustrating aspect of TOW has been (what seems to me) the overaccuracy of the AI gunnery. It seems unlikely to me that even experienced gun crews would be able to knock out a tank at extreme ranges with their first (or second) shot. I used Dr Jones SFS extractor tool and downgraded the accuracy tables. I find the game much more playable/enjoyable this way. Maybe I'm just not cut out to be a soldier! Anyway, I like your mission - good opportunities to use terrain to advantage.

The very strong Russian forces quickly overwhelmed me Are there any German re-inforcements on the way? Good to see some new missions though!

You promised to let us know about a patch
CharlieMike24 replied to WW2Wargamer's topic in Theatre of War
Excellent news. Good to hear from you, Madmatt! -
There once was a runaway patch, The likes that no others could match, They cried, "We can't play!" For a year and a day, Then started a new game from scratch.

Register with CMMODS. There's a growing number of missions being added. Combat Mission Modification Database v2.0
