  1. In the "What are your expectations ..." thread.
  2. Hunter said he is 99% there and given the interest Battlefront has recently taken in this game I don't think we should expect a halk-baked game. But if it helps, yeah, I'm interested, and am willing to pay for a finished product.
  3. Hunter! Long time no see! Thanks for the input. Great to see some activity on this project. Really looking forward to it. My expectations are to see something maybe just a little more complex and graphically pleasing than RoBo's quick battle generator, which has been hovering over at the CMBB forum for some time now, and which really gave a kick (its limitations being repetitiveness of battles generated). I won't ask about a release date of course, but any indication in terms of percentage of completion? Thanks enrico
  4. Thanks a lot! This looks comforting indeed! Is the CMC wait finally over?
  5. Sounds a little iffy. It would be a pity if this meant a complete write-off. But I'm guessing they're going to say there are very few people (if any) on the job and the project will be put off until so-and-so comes back and gets his hands on it again. Too bad! We will just have to keep waiting - and resurrecting old threads: this thread should be titled what? "It's been 15 months, Hunter!" Long live the CMC wait!
  6. I know Japanese forces (and voices) were modded for a CMBO Pacific Theater mod I still have tucked away somewhere in my old pc. They might still be available at CMMODS. I don't know about CMBB. Perhaps you may be able to convert those CMBO .wav files to CMBB. enrico
  7. Hunter, only 5 more days to Xmas, pleeeaze. If it's true there's an on-going beta, how about some screenshots from the betatesters?
  8. Thanks Yskonyn, I turned Anti-aliasing (whatever that means) off and I'm back to normal now.
  9. I started a similar thread "Portions..." and TankCommander's editor problem appears to be exactly the same as mine. (I got there first though ) I am positive it is not due to any modded files since I have never downloaded any. I just have a couple of scenarios from CMMODS. The same strange behavior happens with the initial screen. If I mouse over the top horizontal line of the boxes (just the top portion of the boxes!) the rest of the screen goes black. Hope it will be fixed with 1.06. Let's wait and see. enrico
  10. It happens especially when I enter the "scenario editor" or when I have to choose sides before a battle. It didn't happen before with 1.04. Now, if I mouse over the blue symbol the red one blackens out. Which is not a big deal, but it makes the editor impossible to use: there, if I mouse over the map, for example, all the left side of the screen disappears and viceversa. Also, night battles, while enjoyable because of the new light effect, are pitch black now and therefore unplayable. Is there a way to alter the "gamma" as in CMx1 to get a clearer view? I have Win XP HE. Radeon x1300. Before posting I upgraded to the recent ATI Catalyst 7.11 which now lets me (finally) see the fog in CMBB. Given the obvious improvements that 1.05 has I'd rather not revert to 1.04 if possible. Thanks in advance for your help. enrico
  11. Thanks JasonC, now that I understand "Hedgehog Hell" is mostly an artificial scenario where you essentially need to know the "tricks of the trade" to win, I won't bang my head against the wall anymore! But I guess I'll try it again nonetheless. It's a question of personal pride now! The few times I've played it I never even reached the point when Russian armor comes into play (or probably I wasn't able to spot it)! It was all so frustrating much before that. I guess I'll have to protect my light armor, move out the infantry to spot those guns and MGs, use my StuGs carefully, wait for the pioneers to arrive, send them on that flanking move and use my artillery as you suggested. I'm not much of an expert when it comes to WWII OOBs, weaponry and such, but I had the feeling there was something missing here. I usually trust scenario designers with such a reputation in the community. Thankfully there are designers like you who do not trick the "average Joe" player as I am with gamey devices. Thanks again enrico PS the scenario is here if anyone wants a bloody nose playing as the Germans: http://bootsandtracks.com/ScenarioDetail.php?ScenarioID=57
  12. I recently had a problem similar to the one described by War Gecko with a scenario called "Hedgehog Hell". In it German mechanized arms (lacking mortars but with plenty of artillery) have to assault an entrenched Russian position with long fields of fire. Playing as the Germans I've been trounced several times. I tried concentrating artillery on specific points but most of the Russian infantry and a few of their guns survived. I tried preparing a smoke screen and then assaulting with everything I had but was never able to gain the high ground and my advance soon ground to a halt. It is the only scenario where I ever experienced several defeats in a row (against the AI). Has anyone else tried it? Does anyone know how to defeat those hardy Russians on the hill, especially without having mortars or air support to pick off their guns as described above? Thanks for your help! enrico
  13. Thank you Steve for the update and good luck with the (metaphorical and real-life) house-cleaning. I am looking forward to any stuff you guys are working on (including CM Campaigns if it's still on). I am mostly a Napoleonic Wars fan and eagerly awaiting HWLG! As for CMSF, I've learnt a lot about modern warfare and have been enjoying it thoroughly, so much so that I have completed all the scenarios that came with the game in a matter of weeks. I know there are a few good 3rd party scenarios out there, but does Battlefront intend to prepare new ones, and let us old fogies play some more well-balanced 1P games? Maybe in form of a scenario pack add-on or something? regards enrico P.S.: re. snow. FYI it's +18°C in northern Italy now. Talk of global warming. It should be -2°.
  14. Thanks Philippe! Absolutely outstanding job! Makes my pining for CM Campaigns unnecessary now. enrico
  15. Yes! Cuirassier, exactly! Please Battlefront give us all the NATO and Russian modern forces and let us play WWII all over again but with Abrahams and Leopards! What a great game CMSF would be. The war against Syria is fictional so why not take CMSF to the next step and have NATO break up and start a conflict in continental Europe with conventional forces. I'd love that. enrico
  16. I recently bought the game notwithstanding the weak historical set-up and my bias against modern warfare. I have been playing the game (RT mode) for about two weeks now and to my surprise I find it's fun, great fun in many aspects, and I'm learning a lot (losing most of the games but that's ok!). But incredibly enough I have already finished all of the scenarios that come with the game (except the campaign). I also own all CMx1 games (bought them all as soon as they came out) and I still have to finish playing a couple of operations here and there, from one side or the other. Not to speak of all the mods and scenarios out there. So apart from the various glitches, bugs, shortcomings etc. this game is severely short in scenarios, or rather developers have perhaps put too much faith in third party scenario designers, who until now do not appear to be particularly forthcoming. The editor is way too complicated for me to tinker with and I lack the time to learn how to use it properly. So yes, I'm still playing CMSF but I can certainly see the end of it, maybe another week or so. A far cry from the 7/8 months it took me to play the CMBO scenarios from the U.S. side only. I'm afraid this game will become obsolete for me very soon indeed, which is a great pity. enrico
