  1. I think ammo sharing is a great idea when it involves you giving bullets to me. I'm less enthusiastic about the vice-versa aspect of the equation, however.
  2. So let me make sure I've got this straight, Gib... M1A1ATC's project won't influence you, impact you, relate to you, affect you, require anything from you, or be associated with you in any way. I'd even go so far as to hypothesize that if you were to stop looking at this thread you could in all likelihood carry on with the rest of your life blissfully unaware of his project's existence. So the reason for your continued participation in this thread is what exactly? As far as I can tell, your sole objective appears to be impressing all of us with what a stunningly insufferable pretentious jackass you are. And if that was your goal? Trust me on this one, hero: Mission Accomplished!
  3. The Canadian Army?! The Canadian Army??!! You must be joking, right? Just how are you going to get the BACON right? I mean, even if you make it LOOK like Canadian Bacon, under that pretty skin it will still just be plain-old American bacon, and that would be such a hideous insult to Canadians that I shudder to think of the response.
  4. Lee, if you're really fascinated by the M14, you should check out some of the versions made by Springfield Armory. The M1A, M25 Whitefeather, M21 Tactical, and SOCOM II are all modern rifles based on the original M14, and are all available on the civilian market. Of those, I've only fired the M1A, but I was pretty impressed with it. Personally, my favorite American-market rifle in the 7.62-class would be DSA's SA58 series (an FN-FAL descendant) but I don't think you'd be going wrong with an M1A at all.
  5. Gib, the guy has said from the beginning (his second post in the thread) that he's fully aware his project will be doing nothing more than changing the appearance of the troops - and furthermore, that he regrets that more isn't possible. You've consistently pretended to acknowledge that fact, and then consistently ignored it, attempting to use his simple request for information as a platform to exercise your well-honed (and yet utterly worthless) righteous indignation.
  6. Plus with caseless ammo you don't have to worry about one of the bullpup configuration's biggest problems - specifically, having a bunch of hot brass flying right into the side of the shooter's face.
  7. You know (speaking as a card-carrying, full-blown, rabid American right-wing whackjob gun-nut), it's always been a source of frustration to me that no one has managed to fully capitalize on the bullpup concept. It seems like such a good idea on paper that it's genuinely surprising no one has really been able to utilize it to produce a consistent, low-maintenance, reliable and accurate platform - at least not for the 7.62mm round.
  8. Hey gibsonm... bugs the crap out of you that there aren't any Australian forces modeled in the game, and that there won't be any. Message received. Loud and clear. Roger Wilco. Understood. We got it, already.
  9. So they should fire upon anyone that appears swarthy? I'm enjoying the read immensely. Thanks for posting it.
  10. I tend to think more about caliber than I do the specific platform (meaning the gun). Many many moons ago when I was "being there" and "doing that" I was a big fan of both the 5.56mm (rifle) round and the 9mm (pistol) round. I liked being able to carry more ammo and dump more of it downrange in a shorter period of time. Now I'm older and wiser and a much better shot than I was back in the day when I actually needed to worry about that sort of thing for other than academic purposes. But if I was going into Indian Country tomorrow, I'd strongly prefer a 7.62mm rifle and a .45ACP pisol. Why? Because I hit what I aim at.
  11. 1. The red dot means he's out of contact with his headquarters (commanding) unit, which means it will take him a lot longer to execute the orders you give him. 2. The orange line going off to the left of him means he's going to be moving into that building to his left. The lines are movement intentions, with the color of the line showing what kind of movement (slow, fast, hunt, etc.). The lines don't have anything to do with command and control. 3. That HQ means that the tank commander is also (in this case) the troop commander. See the gold bar on the left? That's his rank insignia. It means he's a Second Lieutenant and he's in charge of the troop. 4. Heirarchy (from smallest to highest, with usual commander rank): Remember, these are just estimates. Fire Team (Corporal or Sergeant) - two teams make a squad. Squad (Sergeant or Staff Sergeant) - four squads make a platoon. Platoon (1st or 2nd Lieutenant) - four platoons make a company. Company (Captain) - five companies make a battalion. Battalion (Lieutenant Colonel) - four or five battalions make a brigade. Brigade (Colonel) - three or four brigades make a division. Division (General)
  12. All this rousing talk about soldiers willingly placing themselves in harm's way, better to protect their comrades-in-arms, reminds me of a line from a movie. Drill Sergeant: "What's your military mission, Gump?!" Gump: "To do whatever you tell me to do, Drill Sergeant!" Drill Sergeant: "You're a goddamned genius, Gump!" The point being that when I tell a Stryker to button up, I'm not interested in anyone's noble willingness to sacrifice themselves - I'm interested in seeing those idiots close the hatches and keep their heads in the damned vehicle.
  13. But to get back to the original question of the thread... Will somebody finally clarify air guard? The original post was made 9 days ago, and there's been no official response, so at this point I think it's safe to assume that... No. No one is going to clarify air guard.
  14. CM:SF: What The Hell Are We Doing In Syria? -or- CM:SF: Stiff Upper Clip -or- CM:SF: Dental Apocalypse ...or if it's a British Marine module... CM:SF: Rum, Sodomy, and The Lash
  15. I kind of like the way they wander around, to be honest. Remember, this is a command-level simulation we're playing, so it's not supposed to give you the impression that you are driving four tanks. It's designed to give you the feeling of being in command, which means you call those four tanks on the radio and say "Hey! You guys go over there!" and then the tank commanders and drivers get from Point A to Point B pretty much any way they see fit. ...and take it from me, I've seen enough armored and mechanized units moving around to know that when vehicle drivers are trying to stay in contact with friendly units, maintain situational awareness, navigate across unfamiliar ground, and get from Point A to Point B, some pretty strange **** happens. Toss in the not-insignificant additional factor of having the constant potential of bad guys blowing your ass up, and all bets are off.
  16. My apologies if English is Taki's second language. I didn't realize that, which means he should be proud that his mastery of the language is good enough to convince someone he's a native English speaker - albeit one with horrendous grammar, quirky spelling, and an addiction to capital letters. ...and now that I feel all guilty and everything, I'll comment on his original point: I've read several threads from people who've talked about Syrian anti-tank weapons not functioning correctly when used in or on a building - other than basic RPG's anyway, which seem to work just fine. It makes me wonder if it has something to do with weapons that need to be deployed to be used correctly, since neither the Javelin or the RPG need to be deployed, and neither seems to have any problem being fired from a structure.
  17. Last night I wanted to blow a hole through a low wall and then drive four Strykers (carrying an infantry platoon) through the gap. The Strykers got a little closer to the wall than I'd intended, but I thought "No big deal - I'll just button them up and then let the tank open up and blast the hole." So I gave the 'button up' command, and then gave the M1 an 'area target' command on the part of the wall I wanted to cease to exist. Know what happened? You guessed it. M1 opened fire, took out the wall, and every idiot sitting there with his head sticking out of the top of a Stryker immediately bought some farmland.
  18. I don't mean to be a smartass, but by the time I got to the last sentence of your post there was blood spurting from my eyesockets.
  19. CM:OTSWTLTGITA! Combat Mission: Our Test Scores Were Too Low To Get In The Army! Something tells me I'm going to pay for that one.
  20. Why not a bug report sub-forum? Users could post bug reports, with the provision that moderators could freely and aggressively delete anything that was just a rant or an opinion ("I demand the grass be re-skinned to look grassier!", that sort of thing) or was a duplicate of an existing report. BFC could then respond to each one with the following: 1. New bug. Hadn't seen that one. Good spot. 2. Aware of that. We're working on it. 3. Unable to repeat or verify this one. 4. That's not a bug. It's a feature, and you're an idiot. This could potentially achieve several things: 1. If something wasn't just seen, but actually acknowledged as a bug (with a foreseeable solution) by BFC I think people might not feel the need to repeat their complaints endlessly in hopes of being noticed and getting something done. 2. The modern video game consumer knows there are going to be bugs. There are bugs in everything. If people thinking about buying the game could come to this forum and see BFC being responsive and forthright about their bugs, I think it would be a powerful marketing tool.
  21. I was 82nd Airborne and then 194th Armored Brigade, which were both reasonably cool patches. I've always thought the 2nd ID patch was pretty cool, it's just freakishly large. In all honesty the 1st Cav, 101st Airborne, and 10th Mountain are probably the Army's coolest patches.
  22. Sure. I've had that happen. Last night I had two Syrian guys... an anti-tank team up on a rooftop, in fact. A squad of US troops got to the second floor of a building a few streets away and put a mess of fire on top of my AT team. They were pinned for awhile, and then their status changed from OK to Cautious to Shaken, then I took out the American squad (tank round into the building) and the AT team eventually returned to normal - all that without either one of them taking any damage.
  23. Just for the record, let me state categorically and unequivocally - that would be cool as hell.
