  1. Absolutely. You can't irrefutably prove by logic alone just WHAT it was that caused those men to eschew those flamethrowers. Even the men we speak of remember different things...as an example, from Lt John Spalding's DDay Narrative in the National Archives: "About this time Pfc. Vincent DiGaetano, who was carrying a 72 pound flamethrower, yelled and said, “I’m drowning, what do you want me to do with this flamethrower”. Streczyk told him to drop it, so he did. In addition to the flamethrowers and many personal weapons, we lost our mortar, most of the mortar ammunition, one of our bazookas, much of the bazooka ammunition." However, the interviewer (who attempted to corraborate the details of the story) added a footnote here: "According to Vincent DiGaetano, he did carry a flamethrower on D-Day but this incident didn't happen. DiGaetano remembers that the flamethrower had an inflatable life vest and he was able to get it ashore. Exhausted at the water's edge, he staggered to the seawall without the weapon. Streczyk sent him back to get it (which sounds like the sergeant)." He further added: "Some details can not corroborated and this may be due to paraphrasing by the historical personnel. It's doubtful, for instance, that any soldier in the history of war ever called out, “I’m drowning! What do you want me to do with [my weapon]?" 72 pounds is a heck of a lot of weight to pick up over personal gear and dive into the surf with. On the other hand, my experience as a firefighter for the Forest Service has shown me that men will bear tremendous burdens through adversity if they believe it has to be done. Of note is the recollection of the attached safety vest. No doubt the distinctive silhouette of the flamethrower made the wearer feel like he was carrying a large "shoot me 1st" sign. They didn't need to see it actually happen in action to know that specialist teams were going to be targeted. And no doubt the fear of immolation to some was simply too much to bear, as irrational and unlikely to occur as it was ...in the "real" world. Random Generic
  2. I've never been able to enter the Sea Cliffs scenario! And when it was includude in the upgrade on the FTP sever it always said that one of the Sea Cliff sections was corrupted, even though I downloaded it several times. Random Generic
  3. I did say please didn't I? Random Generic
  4. Can we have 1.20 and 1.21 on the FTP server please? Random Generic
  5. Not just the bayou scenario, hub. BTW that file is there. Thanx, Random Generic
  6. Folks having trouble with controls: It took me awhile to realize that the patch for some reason changed my control options from defaultmouse to defaultjoystick. I just went into the contols options and returned my settings to defaultkeyboard, everything (like the right mouse button) was working again. I can't figure out WHY they would want to change your default controls, but there it is, eh?
  7. Just wanted to report that with 1.16 I've had to turn the graphics WAY down. Places where I had all graphics turned on in 1.15 and getting 30-40 FPS are getting an unplayable 8-12 slideshow in 1.16. And some LONG loading pauses in the beginning of the game that have me thinking that the computer is frozen. Random Generic
  8. It's been an unprecedented full week since the last patch of Drop Team. I didn't realize how hooked I'd become on the "new patch thrill" every weekend! The joys of finding out what's changed, what's been broken, what the bots are gonna choose for weapons after the latest weapons tweak...even the joy of just sitting and watching the update process slowly progressing... You guys got us hooked on this phenomena. Now here we are, clamoring for the latest and greatest tweaks! Yeah, I know...the first few were free...now no doubt we'll get a subscription charge. I don't care...I can put off the car payment and mortgage...just give us that patch! Maybe you could develop the "placebo" patch which won't change anything but will make us go through an update process. This might help the patch addicted masses like me! Random Generic
  9. LOL! I wish that MORE posters would include their credentials like you did! Random Generic
  10. Too cool! I've thought about those more than once. Thanks for the heads up. Random Generic
  11. That's kinda what I do. Sneak up the drainage ditch to as close as you can get, let loose with the rockets and GO! I leave the SUs in the ditch to come up and duel with the 88s. Played that way several times and won each time. Random Generic
  12. Thank You! Now you can go to the barbeque! LOL Random Generic
  13. No matter how much you give us, we always clamor for more! Can you out the 1.15 patch up on the FTP server please? Thanx! Random Generic
  14. There is no doubt, the customer service is without equal in the history of computer gaming. Random Generic PS. Thanks, Clay! That 1.14 patch ended the stuttering I was experiencing in the game!
  15. Just out of curiosity, Dark Au...did you realize that this is a DISCUSSION forum, not your personal preaching pulpit? I personally started playing wargames, reading military history, and observing tactics in 1955 when I got hold of a copy of Tactics from the Stackpole Co, which launched Avalon Hill. Long before they cut YOU off the tit, young man. I certainly read what you have to say, but I'll be damned if I'm beholden to it. I might even occasionally disagree with part of it. I'd like to be the first to inform you that when someone disagrees with you it is not cardinal sin or anathema unto God. Nor is your self-appointed mastery of all you survey the final arbiter. Has the rain there in WA gone to your freakin head, boy? Since your amazing intellect is always the first to make a personal attack, I'd just thought I'd return the favor. Random Gamer
  16. Why should the mines be a total percision item? They are an area weapon, especially when dropped by pod. Perhaps you're trying to garnish too much from them in an offensive role. I LIKE the 30 meter idea. Random Gamer
  17. Well, I downloaded the ASL mods, but they don't like to play nicely with McMMM, for some reason. Had to overwrite by hand. I was most suprised that the terrain wasn't overlayed with hexes! Random Generic
  18. I danced the jig and, well...you were right! Smooth as silk with all the bots stopped. The second even ONE of them were respawned and actively moving the stutter started (say that fast five times). Ordered them to stop, and the stutter ceased. And now I am left with the question...what can possibly be done about that? Have others reported this kind of problem? Random Generic PS. The stutter was present in all releases that I know of.
  19. As usual, you appear to have hit the hammer on the head with your first swing. 0 bots and just my tank (or noone) = no pause As few as 2 bots on a side and the pauses begin. Now, as a standalone game I've been keeping the bots on 10 enemy and 9 friendly. That is about what it akes on the map sizes to be tactically interesting. So it's a server/player issue? As long as I am playing on my own computer I'm going to experience the stutter? Bummer. I'd play more online but there hardly ever seems to be anyone on. And since I don't have a mic the interaction is pretty minimal anyway. Plus the lag on the servers sometimes gives me some GIANT lags. Anything I can do to make the game less jerky and run at least 5-8 bots a side? Random Generic
  20. I had no idea this was coming out or was even in the works. I have played CM:BB since it came out and would love to have this. GOt pretty excited until I came to the forum and read the posts. Is there any real news on a release date or is this project cancelled? Random Generic
  21. Yup. As stated, I can turn off all options in graphics or turn them on...makes little difference. I can see I get a lower framerate with everything turned in, but that doesn't affect the stutter. Everything off, very smooth...except for the same every five second stutter. None of my other games stutter like that...COD2, BF2, Red Orchestra, WWII Online. I've developed a thing about it now...makes it impossible to play the game...it's like Chinese water torture or something. Random Generic
  22. I'm talking about standalone play. The servers are often laggy, but what I am talking about is a recurrent stutter when playing offline. Random Generic
  23. Some specs: Windows XP Pro Athalon 64 3200 (used as 32 bit) ECS SiS 755 motherboard (I know, I know) 2 GB DDR @ 400mHz Realtec '97 audio on board Nvidia 7800 GS AGP 8x (I know, I know) Game installed on 200 GB 7200rpm SATA Hard drive Not too many programs loaded, plenty of RAM in place for the game to run. Which leads me to ask...is there some way short of disabling virtual memory to minimize the games usage of the hard drive? Anybody out there experience the same problem? A slight pause every 5 seconds? Random Generic
