  1. APCR was the choice for the day.
  2. Not at all.Strange. You're not clicking on an abandoned tank crew leader are you? The crew should still be highlighted unless of course they are dead. But I've had no problem with the different leaders of the inf squads.
  3. Games like CC and CM 's LOS are too sterile... pausing and checking out every possible LOS and this somehow gets back to the commander. I know one guy who would spend 40 minutes setting up his units in CC checking every LOS possibility. This game implies units do their own LOS thing and thats a good thing if it's coded right..otherwise its fubar. Some screws ups are just fog of war.
  4. Most miniature players liked the 1:1 rules. '44 was a set of rules for platoon scale (the only one at the time) where a unit= a platoon. They used PMS (platoon markers)and were sized something like 1"x21/2" rectangle and was to equal the attack frontage of a plt (100m)at the narrow end and defense frontage (250m) at the long end. These markers took up space and you couldn't go through them. So if you were defending with 6 platoons you might face them lengthwise covering a sector. I've stopped playing tabletop and like you prolly got 10 years left on the computer stuff..
  5. Thanks for the map link. Since I DL'd the clervaux scenario and it was indeed Europe. I figured well, it is infact CMBO updated in a sense but just want to know anything I was missing. Hey JOMc67..I still got over 600 285th scale micro armor and a ton of inf..including everything needed for a D-Day scenario. Did some HO too. Ever hear of Arnold Hendricks '44 miniature rules? that's what we used. Been meaning to put it on Ebay as I'll never play again. Those were the days huh..argue over line of sight...you can't see me..get the string out..see it cuts the corner...ugh:) Broompatrol..the Eurpope is the latest fad in popes..give it a try:)
  6. BTW. Nice work stoffel on the Cleraux scenario. Just what I wanted. I did that scenario many years back with armor miniatures on a big table and remember all the books I had to read to get it right. So much time spent to do these historical scenarios I'm well aware of. Ditto for the rest of you scenario designers. Many thanks!
  7. Hi, Been playing wargames since the 70s..buy most all of them. I bought CM1 and CM2 when they came out but was never really into the go and watch turn sequence. Anyway...wanting a little more relaxed game from the fast paced of TOW I decided to download the lastest, CMAK. I also downloaded a couple west front scenarios. It's nice they're in one file without all the separate map files, scripts etc.. My question is, and I really answered it with the scen dl but still...Is plugging in the europe scenarios in CMAK the same as an updated CMBO? I always hate when sequels come out with a different theatre and that theatre of course is updated with new improvements to the original game but the old one isn't. But it seems with the scenarios available made by people infact you can Also I take it CMAK has come along way over the other two for the better?
  8. No, you can give tanks, or any unit, individual orders...or plt..or any part of.. The Ai is pretty good too..with units backing out if they're taking too much fire from you. It's definitely not beer and pretzel..of course you'd have to play it to see. Try the demo and decide for yourself.

  10. Well I'm neither negative or positive at this point...BUT...IF..you learn how to use the camera you can zoom in and out quick. What you might argue is it's not all on the mouse. If you really want to get in fast without using the camera..lock and unlock and back off.. The camera isn't the problem..assuming there are problems. It's you don't know how to use it yet.
  11. Do you target each inf with your whole squad (or part) or area fire your whole squad?
  12. Yeah they run ahead. So now in set up I put the officer behind a little so when they move as a formation he doesn't get far ahead.
  13. Problem with the difficulty levels is the hard is the only one with ballistics and realism which is why people bought the game. So the easy is arcade. The enemy having less units might have made a better easier level.
  14. The camera controls is the key to the game. You have to be fast with it..no other way around it because it's a battlefied happening fast and furious. If you're good with FPS on a keyboard you should be ok. If not, and I'm not, here's what I do. I use my CH HOTAS throttle. (there are other left handed programmable gizmos but I've always gone back to my CH throttle). Of course I don't use the actual throttle. If you haven't seen one..it has 3 hat switches within an inch of easy thumb access. One hat switch the thumb rests on. What better hat switch to control in a first person shooter..intuitive to push down to go prone, up to stand up right, left and right to strafe..and my index and ring finger laying on 2 of the top 3 buttons for walk forward and backwards. Thus the usual WSAD commands in a heartbeat. Translated to TOW. Top buttons to move camera forward and backwards. One hat switch to rotate left, right, and tilt up, down. Another hat switch to scroll left and right and raise/lower elevation. With the quick access to rotate and tilt camera..I don't even use the "free camera" control button to move around..although its still on middle mouse button if I want. This way the right hand on the mouse is strictly for orders. The 3rd top button on the throttle is my lock FP view. Now I can lock on the birds eye view..release it and be moving the camera back to where I want at the same time. Of course few are going to go out and get a $100 ch throttle to play this but if you're already a flt simmer and have one..try it. NOW the game is making more sense as I have more control to get around..even time to admire some action..or make sure a tank needs to move another yard hull down to see his target.

  16. Yes. There's a lot to be said for being artistic and making it pleasing to the eye. The right color harmonies can go a long way. I remember Falcon 3 being beatiful because of how they shaded the 4 colors. This enviroment is like being inside a beautiful painting. Wait till you see the whole game. The bridges in the airborne scenario just had that far distant look you see on some old films clips or paintings. Now if one wants to get up close and argue about the holes in the tree leafs..oh well:) But as an over encompassing view..it's the best ever.
  17. After playing some battles in a couple campaigns and such... a short review. Graphics. I find it pleasing more than most newer games. There's a lot to be said for painting a landscape over a rain drop on a tree leaf eye candy. I like the far distance view even if not playable..beats those games with a big playable square and black around the borders. The rolling hills are beautiful..and I don't even have all the detail on. Sound. Great! I don't get the complaints here. For long distance gunfire sounds right to me. You wouldn't expect to hear Harry's 44 magnum the same 500 yards away. Game interface play. The camera controls are fine if you're fast on a keyboard. I'm not so I programmed them into my CH Hotas I often use for FPS and these type games. I get around pretty quick now. That's definitely important. Game play. Gets better each time. Things do die fast and your entire army can get wiped out. Better tactics needed? maybe. Realism. At a glance seems good. Just a glance tho. Had a lock up in the British airborne take the bridges battle. Had to hard boot. I only had one Cromwell left but all he had left was some inf in the trench. Thanks to those Typhoons:) Overall. It's got some fun factor. I don't stick with games more than 5 minutes if they don't. Be interesting to try a multi play where the human player will have just as hard a time of keep track of units I do:) I almost gave up with the demo..but that battle just sucked:)
  18. I'm playing the mod my first time as Axis. Difficulty normal. 0%. Is it designed for that or could/would you want to increase it. Jan 43. I have Leningrad and Moscow but no Stalingrad. They are stubborn. Took Teheran only to find the Americans invade Morocco. That was a suprise. I find I have lots of money with nothing to spend it on due to the limits on force pool, which I like. Great Mod!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Thats what the posts are for to put you in perspective wargamers aren't junkies.
  20. ah but with no other basis to go on it's logical to assume 1 day is of little worth. You wouldn't assume a week either. What you would assume from "getting it early" is 3-4 days. While technically 1 day IS early..it's an extreme therefore not a logical assumption of the norm. That's just a point to be made. It doesn't irritate me and I have no complaints..like you said whats 4-5 days. Wait! I could be dead! But you had to read the rules more than once to figure out you had to pay DVD price (you didn't want) to save ten dollars to add shipping to get it early. So like I said,I will get it early for $8 additional dollars. Is it worth one day..I probably still would being the impulsive game buyer that I am:) I mean battlefront stated it..as long as you read the rules..er manual a couple times. All in great fun. Battlefront and Matrix rule! when you think of what there was in the past with computer wargames. Now if Avalon hill had stayed alive..maybe they would have competion... I digress.....
  21. That'd be great if I read them:) I rarely read the rules...except back in the boardgame era when you had to (god I hate reading) or your opponent would use a rule against you. ah.the days where a comma or an "and" would be placed created more arguments.......
  22. Is the human coop play a campaign or just single missions?
  23. It took me a minute to figure out that I was paying $8 shipping extra to get it earlier because I never wanted the DVD to begin with. But I knowingly hit the button to pre-order anyway. No complaints but it would have been nice to know that the time of getting it earlier would only be a day as is implied instead of 3-5 days that most would normally assume. So now I have a DVD coming for $4 cheaper since I didn't want it anyway...wait does that equate......well...lol..6 one half a dozen or the other.
  24. So I figured it out. I don't want the DVD, just the DL. So if I preorder I save $10 and maybe get the DL early and a DVD. But since I never wanted the DVD I save nothing except I get it early. But I got to pay $8 shipping for the DVD to preoder the digital DL I want...so in essence it cost me $8 to get it early via digital DL. Got it. I did it. Even though I don't need the DVD or manual:) It's all good.
